I love these shoes! I just bought another pair. I must have bought 7 or 8 pairs over the past 7 years. The only negative factor (besides their looks, which take some getting used to) is that they wear out fairly quickly and get dirty quickly, too. I wish they came in a dark color. But obviously those are not deal breakers for me, because of the shoes' superb comfort and stability. I turned my left ankle in 2002 while hiking, breaking it in 3 places. I was wearing very expensive Mephisto oxfords at the time. It was at that point that my physical therapist told me I needed shoes that provided more stability and prevented pronation. I already knew to buy shoes with extra padding for walking on hard surfaces. My local store here in Austin, Karavel Shoes, recommended New Balance 587 to me and I've been wearing them ever since. Their "roll bar" really helps my weak ankles keep me vertical, and I've worn them on at least 6 continents on various walking trips; they definitely provide the padding one needs while spending hours in museums or walking on stone pavements. I know they are supposed to be "running shoes", but I use them only for walking. I'm 72.
I'd also recommend:
Keen sandals and light hiking boots, and Mephisto boots for heavier duty multiday hikes.

This is a good running shoe for my wide toe and narrow heel. It also provides good stability for my foot-rolling issues. I would buy it again.

This style of NB was one of the recommendations I got from a Physical Therapist to help correct problems from overpronating. They are very comfortable with a roomy toe box & are available in wide. My one complaint would be the price. I feel penalized for having flat wide feet. I work 12hr shifts on concrete, so I need new shoes every 6 months or so, and that is just for work. Average price for shoes that fit, approaches extortion. NB is not by any means alone in this practice.

These shoes were the first pair of shoes I\'ve bought that actually fit my feet. They are a little pricey for a college student, but worth the comfort. I have stopped having back aches at the end of the day. The only problem I have is that they squeek when I walk. I have had them for over a month, and they still squeek. Other than that, it\'s a great shoe.

As reported by others, the W587 is an excellent shoe and my new favorite because they are more comfortable and lighter than the 1123s, but they have the same excellent stability and arch support. As a person who has battled plantar fasciitis for almost three years, I can recommend them wholeheartedly. I plan on buying more pairs, I like them that much. Kudos to New Balance for their Made in America tribute on the back of the shoes and the pink ribbon designating 15% to the Susan G. Komen cancer cause.

This is the second pair of these I have purchased. My feet are a mess, as a result of botched surgeries but these make me feel like I am walking normally. They fit just right and have superior arch support.

I recently have had to wear orthotics to retard bunions. I would like to reach 'old age' with nice feet. Zappos allowed me to try at least a dozen pair of different athletic shoes, to find one that the orthotics would fit comfortably in and I would be happy.I used to wear a 6 1/2 sneaker to fit the bunion. My size with the orthotics is 6 2E. These sneakers are wonderful. I wear them all day to work (I teach 3 and 4 year old children) and then wear them to the gym. I do a lot of aerobics and dancing at the gym. I bought a second pair so that I will have them when the first wear out as I do wear them daily. They are supportive and yet my toes have room and I never think of my feet as I go through the day. I would not have been able to try and compare all these sneakers if it hadn't been for Zappos. Thank you. I will continue to use Zappos for future purchases.

Before I rate the shoe, I just want to say the Zappos is one fantastic company and will definitely be getting all of my future shoe business. It's like having a mini shoe store in my living room without the hovering salesperson or the pressure to buy before I'm ready. As for the W587 shoe, I was impressed with the quality and looks and was very pleased that "Made in the USA" was in plain view on the back. It is a good, solid shoe and appears to be well made. Unfortunately, the arch is way too rigid for my foot so I will be returning these. However, I will be keeping the W845s that I also ordered.

Before I bought these shoes I read several reviews, as I have never owned a pair of New Balance before. I am sold. They are the most comfy tennis shoes I have ever owned. I have small, wide feet, and they fit like they were made for me. I ordered my true size, wide, and the fit is perfect. They are light, and my feet don't want me to take them off. I wear them daily to fast walk my dog down a gravel road, and they are the best. I would recommend them to anyone!

My therapist recommended this shoe and I was hesitant to buy a pricey shoe thinking what if they don't help but after getting the shoes, very quickly, and walking in them, I am very satisfied it is unbelievable what a difference it made in my shins, and lower back I didn't hurt after walking 2 miles I would recommend these shoes to anyone who has a lower back problem and over pronation.

I love New Balance and bought this style because it was recommended by my podiatrist to help with my overpronation and to help alleviate pressure on a bunion. The shoe is rather clunky looking - there is no rise or cut out in the arch portion of the sole and so the shoe looks like an orthopedic shoe, which I guess it is! I am not too bothered by this and it is comfortable like all my other New Balance shoes. However, due to its clunky look, I will probably not purchase this style again and will look for a different New Balance overpronation shoe. I wear these with orthodics and so cannot comment on the arch support.

Read all the reviews and decided to go for these. I have a bunion the size of Delaware on my right foot so I worried. I can generally wear 7.5 but ordered 8 which leaves room for heavier socks and was not sorry. Took only one wearing for them to be super comfortable. Now they are my new best shoes.

I have been running in these shoes on and off for the past 7 years, and I love them! I have especially wide feet and they are so comfortable and supportive. They last much longer in terms of wear and tear on the bottom than other shoes I have tried as my high arch usually causes extreme wear on the outer edges of the bottom of my shoes. I am a regular runner - racing in 5K, 10K and half marathons and I would recommend these shoes to anyone! They aren't super stylish, but that didn't matter when I recently won a 5K in these shoes since my feet were fully supported and I could concentrate on my running.

I found these New Balance shoes to be very comfortable with a wide enough toe bed for my ultra wide feet and they have very good arch support. I am stoked that 25% of New Balance shoes are made in America unlike other athletic shoes. Buy American made!

Great arch support and stability. The wide width was way to roomy, though. Would have reordered but medium width was not available at the time.

The very best running shoe ever! Who knew there was a shoe with a toe box that let you actually spread your toes?! Excellent arch support. And Zappos service is, as always, superb.

I have worn the W587 for more years than I can remember seeing that I am 71 yrs. If Zappo checked their records I am sure they would be surprised. This shoe is Awesome in every way, I have never had a problem with them or anything negative to say about the product. Zappo service is really great. Love the made in america and the cancer symbol and the meaning behind it. Thx for a great product!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perfect for over-pronation. Just the right heel height and extra support on the inner arch. Comfortable, great fit. Will be buying again without question.

I have post polio syndrome and this is the only shoe that I have found that works well with my leg and foot brace. Gives great support and stability. I only hope they NEVER stop making this one as I have no idea what I will use in place of it. Have tried many different brands and styles and this one ROCKS!!! Big time.

I work in a medical office and am on my feet all day. I wear these sneakers everyday. They are comfortable and supportive. Well worth the money. My podiatrist recommended this brand and told me to always buy running shoes for the support and I have never gone wrong with these. Hope they never stop making them.

I hated to see New Balance’s 1122 style discontinued. After trying several replacements, these are the closest I’ve found. True to size; good support for pronated feet; very comfortable and well made.
