Nicely surprised - After hearing some horror stories about the decline in quality of Docs, and after wearing them regularly for the past 15 years, I was hesitant to buy another pair of boots. However, the leather broke in easily with some saddle soap and mink oil, and the fit was spot-on as it used to be. The only complaint I have is that the air wair soles (as mentioned in other reviews) don’t feel quite as bouncy as they once did, hence not giving this boot 5 stars. Still a nice boot, happily, though we will see if they hold up as remarkably long as the made in England variety.

Disappointment - They look cool but they just don't seem to fit my feet! They are really uncomfortable. They feel too narrow in the toe and instep and too big in the heel. I can't even stick it out long enough to see if they break in.

I bought these for my fiancé for his birthday. When he first started wearing them the top of the boot rubbed his skin raw and then scabbed. He thinks this happened b/c he laced them too tight at the top. But, after about 2 weeks of pain, he says that they are the most comfortable shoe he owns!

Great boot - Comfortable on the first wearing, beautiful red color, though a little heavy on the feet; I think it is added exercise...very happy with them.

Review - I was very happy with the speed at which my order was sent to me. I had a pair of these I bought back in 1993 and I just wore them out>>>. The leather was stiffer but the comfort is still there when the boots were broke in. I would use Zappos to buy boots again.

Right now, I can only give these boots a comfort factor of 2. Once they break in, and that takes me quite a while, Doc Martens become the best casual boot to wear.

Too bad - Like a lot of you guys - most of my Doc's were the original UK made and fit great and lasted years. Well, when they finally gave out I tried the Chinese made ones and they are terrible. The leather is stiff and doesn't break in, the fit is different and the soles are not the same. Alas, I've bought my last pair or Doc's and it pisses me off.

Loved These Docs - I have knee and back problems...I can walk longer, faster & with less pain when I wear these boots. Not only that, they look great. I would gladly buy another pain.

Perfect shoe - I wear these boots just as they were intended--to work in. Great quality, fit, and wear. I will continue to purchase docs when I need a new pair. Just put an insole in them and they are good to go with very little break in time.

Still breaking them in but they're a great boot

Whoever changed the kind of leather they use should be fired - I love my Docs, and my old pair was finally really destroyed, so I ordered the same style & size. The other reviewers aren't kidding--sometime between 1998 and now, they've started using leather that's extremely stiff and painful and nearly impossible to break in. I wore mine to a movie, thinking that the walk through the parking lot would be a good short first breaking-in, and wound up with shoes in the same rock-hard condition they started out in, and bleeding calves. Not blisters; skin scraped off the back of my legs. I've been spending some time every night hitting them with a hammer on the floor, which seems to be helping. Otherwise, they're still Docs and still awesome, but don't expect to be able to wear them right out of the box.

American sculptor - Man!! I love these boots!! They fit great, everyone comments on them (sometimes good, sometimes not), but I am into being different. I can wear them all day and not feel the least bit of foot discomfort. I put gel inserts into all my shoes, but that just makes a great shoe better. I highly suggest getting a pair of these!!

Legendary Price, but now Chinese Made? Have bought Doc's for over 25 years. They now make them in China and they are not the same. Wrote to the company and they said they had to move production to remain competitive. Unfortunately, these went from beautiful shoes made by craftsmen in the UK, to run of the mill Chinese footware. WalMart eat your heart out. Best part is, you still get to pay the premium price (just like the original Docs). Does this make sense?

I used to buy these years ago, and although the look is the same, the shoe has changed now that they are made in Asia, not the same quality they used to be. I think they run a little narrow as well.

Excellent!!! These Dr. Martens boots were a gift for one of my best friends, he loves the boots, the color, the style, he loves Dr. Martens boots anyways and I do too. These boots are the best boots on the market!

Worth the Wait - This time around I bought the white smooth, but these are some of the stiffest Docs I've had. They take time to break in, but to true Docs lovers, it's well worth it. They look absolutely awesome (and they're very comfortable). The white is also quite different, but can be very classy. What I did was wear them a few hours a day for several days after I got home from work before I wore them for full days, and had no blistering problems. They still left marks on the top of the foot and around the ankle, but it wasn't too bad. They also squeaked a lot when they were new, but as they break in they get better. Also, Zappos had great delivery time, as usual.

Boots - These are the most comfortable footwear to wear when on your feet all day. As noted in reviews they take a bit to wear in, I found in my 15 years of Docs that a good sports tape over the areas which are prone to rub, particularly the back of the heel, for the first week or so will prevent the blisters and in turn the sore Achilles. I've only had one pair break down... that’s pretty good for 15 years worth of this brand.

Good boot. Been wearing it for two weeks now. A couple of applications of mink oil help a lot in softening the leather. It's almost broken in. Only thing is it pinches a tiny bit at the toes, but I'll probably just stretch that out by stuffing it up with socks or newspapers.

Paper thin leather. They absolutely do not breathe, making them very sweaty. I have had a pair for 3 years. The leather has worn clean through in one place. Good points - they don't scuff floors, and they take a great shine.

Fine on the feet but tough on the ankles during break-in - These run a little wide, but are true to length. Right now, my left boot is chewing a little hole in the back of my Achilles tendon where the heel cap meets the boot. Also, the leather comes VERY, VERY stiff initially; I also have a ring of bruises where the ankle is reinforced at the top of the boot. I know that this will ease up as they wear in, but I need to buy a new package of thick socks for the time being.

Once again DM has hit the mark. Style comfort and overall sweet shoes. A little tight at the beginning but it's to be expected from the stiff leather used. Excellent!

Worth the break-in time! I echo the words of other reviewers: let them break in! I have a pair I bought that I love, and as my boyfriend loves boots and had been dreaming of Docs, I got him a pair in his size. For about a week, I was worried because he got a couple blisters and one shoe felt smaller. Then that week passed, and now he says they fit perfectly and are super-comfortable--he wears them every day! And it's a great looking boot, sleek and not clunky at all.

Dr. Martens - They broke in very easily, within a couple of days. I purchased them primarily for riding my motorcycle, good thing because if you stand in them for to long you will definitely feel it. Overall, they perform well for what I purchased them for, so no real complaints here.
