I'm a pretty big fan of Dr. Martens in general, but found myself somewhat disappointed with these particular boots. I bought my usual size, and while the length and width were perfect (as usual), they don't lace up tight enough and are "loose" around the ankle. Going down to a smaller size might help, but then they might not fit my actual foot. Also, as others have mentioned, they've changed the pattern of the outsole. Overall, they look good and have good cushioning, but I can't recommend them.

Anyone familiar with Docs from the 1990s and earlier may be a little disappointed by the current state of the 1460. The lug design on the bottom is different from the original, classic version instead of individual lugs for better traction, the tread on the bottom is a series of stripes. The lugs are also shorter than before, resulting in less tread depth, which I interpret to mean that they will wear out more quickly. The fit is still similar, with a flat bottom that doesn\'t offer much arch support. On the plus side, they are still easily recognizable as Docs, the leather is supple right out of the box, and there is no break-in period required.

I read somewhere that Dr. Martens were first sold in England on April 1st 1960. After wearing these boots for a day I wondered how they ever made it to April 2nd. "Absolute murder" is probably the best way I could describe how they felt that first day. By the second day however, they started breaking in and, as the saying goes, what a difference a day makes! Once they break in and start molding themselves to your foot, you'll find these to be the most comfortable pair of boots you've ever worn. I used to wear athletic shoes all the time but the problem was I wore them out too fast at work, so I finally decided to grow up and get a real pair of shoes for work. These Dr. Marten’s 1460 boots are one of the best purchases I have ever made. My only advice is to give them at least a week or so to break in. I swear I was looking for that return tag after the first day, but now a week later I wouldn't give them back for anything!

Doc Martens 1460 - Great boot. Zero break-in time. I work in a kitchen and I'm on my feet all day. Plus, it looks good while riding my Vespa.

Green Dr. Marten boots - Received my Docs and man do I love 'em! Color was almost exact to what was on the monitor. Very soft footing inside, fit nicely. Friends love the color. I'm considering buying a red pair! I'm of European background so I like the colors to be striking and different!

Great shoes - Love the boots. I've bought them before, but in the size that matches my regular street shoes and sneakers, and that seemed too small. I'd recommend buying a size up, if you're prone to having your boots wear your feet in instead of your feet wearing your boots in.

First off I would like to say how great Zappos service is. I ordered them one day and they were here the next. Excellent. Now onto the boots themselves. First, do not order a size up. I did this and ended up having to return for my shoe size (there more like shoes then boots, sorta), but once you get the right size these are excellent boots. They’re very comfortable when walking around. For me, at least, there wasn't much of a break in. I got the black greasy witch I'm guessing has softer leather then the regular. Overall nice boot and recommend to anyone looking for some new footwear.

Eye Catcher And A Half - I bought a pair of the green for work and the compliments keep pouring in. Everybody wants a pair now! They broke in less than two days and the bouncing soles keep my feet a lot happier than my old boots did. I have to tell you I just absolutely love mine and plan on buying more in other colors. They also arrived in perfect condition. VERY WORTH THE MONEY.

More comfortable than expected - Since this was my first pair of Dr Martens of any kind, I have no way of comparing these to the older 1460's made in England. Having said that, I was quite surprised by how comfortable they were when I first put them on, since I had read so many reviews saying that they needed breaking in first. So far, I haven't experienced any of the chaffing or any other problem that I keep reading about. If I had to find a complaint, then it would be that there is little to no arch support (though it has a removable insole that can be replaced with one that has more arch support) and that can be a big problem for me. But the air soles of these shoes seem to alleviate any problem here and I wore them all day when I first got them without any soreness whatsoever. The only reason I don't give this shoe better ratings is because I'm picky when it comes to shoes and I wouldn't say that these are perfect in any way whatsoever. However, they really are great shoes and they're far better than what I was expecting from the reviews read here. The leather is supposed to be more stiff than what is typical for this shoe. And yet, the leather on mine was soft upon arrival and so I really don't understand the complaint with having to break them in first.

As comfortable as Airwalks!!!!! I used to wear Airwalks but noticed my arch was falling and the sole wore out very quickly so I tried Dr. Martens because I had a pair when I was about 13 and they were the most comfy boot or shoe I have ever worn before. Thanks Zappos for selling them at a descent price.

First boots in a while - I had forgotten how much breaking in DM boots require. If you get these, be patient. They're not going to fit perfectly at first. The time you spend breaking them in is rewarded with incredible comfort and durability.

Classic Docs - These are just like the Docs I wore 15-20 years ago. They are leather boots and take a while to break in. They seem wide in the heel (some slipping), but they are just the right width for my wide feet at the toes.

Classic - I would like to say that the service of Zappos is excellent. I placed my order and had my shoes by the 3rd day. The Doc's were a gift, and the person loved them. They state that they are comfortable, true shoe size. Thanks Zappos.

A Boot That Has Stood the Test of Time - Let's face it...Dr. Martens have been around for many years and many different fashion trends have included them, from Punk and Sid Vicious to Grunge and Cobain, and everything before, in between and after, so they are legendary. I bought these with the best intentions and was highly satisfied with what I got, being an avid wearer of boots, I have worn many brands, both good and bad, and know a little bit about the anatomy and what to look for. Sure, the breaking in period is a little tedious and long, but that's leather, folks. All in all, don't buy blindly from newer boot companies who try to pass of Chinese plastic as leather, Follow the way of the Good Doctor and buy a 63 year legend of footwear!

I love my Dr. Martens! And I love Zappos!!! They arrived earlier than expected. Took me a day or two to break them in. I'm normally a size 8.5, but read the other reviews and everyone said they ran a little big. I got the 8s and no problem at all. My feet are also a little wide but there is plenty of room in my Docs.

You can’t go wrong with Doc Martens! I have two shoes by Doc Marten and wish I had 100! I have an oxford that I have worn for nearly 10 years and they are still going strong. These boots I got are wonderful! Wore them out of the box with no problems... YEAH!

I have been an ardent DM consumer for well over a decade. The last good pair I bought was in 2005. The subsequent 3 pair I bought ALL had construction problems with the sole glue that made the shoe start to separate and make horrible squeaking noises when walking. I have to put on my 3 year old pair to have any sort of quietness when I walk. They still look as good as they used to and seem to wear ok, but the noise/squeak is unacceptable.

Rough break in - but great! Nice boots - be prepared to break them in b/c they are stiff at first - look great and are getting more comfortable with break in -- hope to have them/enjoy them for years.

Looks great and comfortable - Took me around two weeks breaking them in. I wore them on rainy days for a few times and took less time breaking them in than I thought. Very comfortable after they get a bit softer, looks great and pretty waterproof. Worth the price.

Love them, but quality is low - I've had mine for about two and a half years and pretty much wore them everyday. For the first year and a half I polished them every week and treated them with mink every two months. Haven't had time to do that over the last year. The leather cracked and I have a hole in the leather now. I think that is unacceptable. Everyone always told me they would wear a single pair for five plus years. Regardless, I will be buying another pair. I guess 2 1/2 years is pretty good considering sneakers never even last a year... and look bad after six months. They are comfortable. I wear rigid insoles in all my shoes, so I didn't have much of a problem breaking them in.

It’s been a long time - I used to rock Doc Martens in the late 80's and early 90's when in middle school and high school. I have decided to single-handedly bring them back in style. Already getting lots of rave reviews from friends aged 23-32. I think they are a hit all over again!

Best Boots Ever! After a decade or so of consideration, I finally bought a pair of Martens. I wish I had done this years earlier. These are, without doubt, the best pair of boots I have ever owned. The first few days are a little rough on the ankle and lower calf (I found tying them a little on the loose side and wearing them every other day helped). After a week, they were softening up and conforming to my foot nicely. You need to commit at least one month of wear to these boots for proper break-in, but you will not be disappointed. The overall comfort now more than makes up for a little pain in the early days.

Great shoe...once you break them in - These shoes are the most comfortable and longest lasting shoes... once you break them in. It takes a few weeks of loyal wearing in but once they conform to your feet, they're your best friend forever. A good idea is to spend a day with them lathered in professional baseball conditioner or olive oil to help soften the leather and break them in easier. Other people I spoke to wore them for a day after soaking them in the bathtub, I was afraid of mold so didn't go that route. It still took about a week of wearing and applying conditioner till they fit just right, but I knew this going in having pairs in my youth. Great support stability in rain or shine, these are the best shoes on the planet to me.

Cute, but wide - My friend had this boot and I thought it was cute. She said it was very comfortable. So I bought a pair. I actually bought 2 pairs because of the strange sizing and kept the better of the 2, more for looks than for comfort. It's a unisex boot and cut very wide. But it is comfortable. It also doesn't breathe, so I won't get much summer wear out of them. Go with the smaller boot if your foot falls within 2 size ranges.

Nicks Boots - I got these boots for my son, and having had Dr. Martens myself, I was worried they would take forever to break in and they would give him blisters, but from day one they have been great- no complaints.
