A painful adjustment -
I had a beloved pair of Docs like these years ago, and they were great, so I thought I'd revisit an old friend. The look is still the same, but I don't remember the break-in period being half as painful the last time around. This pair is, in no uncertain terms, the most painful pair of shoes/boots I've ever broken-in, to the point that I have to give myself a few days in between each wear. I don't know if that has anything to do with the shift in manufacturing from the UK to China (if you were expecting "The Original," you'll be disappointed), but these boots are absolutely KILLING my feet.

Size is a problem -
Love my old brown Docs that I’ve had for years and tried to get a new one in black but size is a definite problem. I am a size 6 but the shoe feels at least a half size too big that I have to try and compensate for with thick socks and cushion inserts. Tried going down a size and that was just too tight. Also, this "smooth" leather is really stiff --- have keep stomping on the whole thing to try and massage out the stiffness. Finally decided to try the smaller size in the nappa leather which was way softer. Wish I had gotten this shoe in with that leather but too late now.

Just like I remembered -
I haven't owned a pair of Docs since high school, but they're just like I remember. They're stiff and require some breaking in, but then they're like your best friend. Just prepare for some bruised shins until then.

Great boots, but long break-in period -
I like the support that these boots provide and they are working well with my orthotics, so far. It seems that they will take a considerable amount of time to break in but once that happens I am sure I will be happy with them for years to come. I love the air sole - very cushiony!

Boots For A Sasquatch -
Bought these boots for my son, 32 years old, because they are his favorites and the only brand where he can count on getting a good fit since his feet are super-extra-gigantic. He has owned one other pair and wore them for 15 years until they burnt up in a house fire. Too bad! Those boots still had some wear left in them, but that is the reason we are on the second pair. He has to wear orthotics because of his 1% arch and with those inserted, these boots are perfect for Sasquatch! The cost is fair when you consider they are gonna last a lifetime as long as you don't burn down the house. With Zappos free shipping, it was quick and easy.

Great shoe, something has changed since the 90s...
Years ago I had a black pair of these Docs and hate to say it, but I wore them almost straight for three years... COM-FER-TUH-BULL! I remember there was a break in period, but remember the soles being a little different... more flexible or thicker? I am wearing a brown pair of Docs I bought with these and they felt like I've had ‘em six months... this black pair is taking longer to break in and like I said, the soles don't feel the same... with all that said... I LOVE THESE SHOES and in six months, suspect I’d give them all 5 star ratings... after the break in period...

Can't go wrong with Dr. Martens boots!
I just ordered the 1460 in Navy Smooth -- a nice alternative to the traditional colors offered. Comfortable as Docs always are perhaps a little more difficult to break-in, but not uncomfortable in the least during the process, and as always great in rain or sun. Perfect for the wet winter of the northwest, and stylish!

These boots are not for the wide feet people of the world. They do take some adjustment to if you are wearing for the first time. You do need to break them in but overall good quality good shoe never goes out of style

Solid but snug -
I have now had these boots for one year. The boots are a solid construction and should last. But they still don't feel "broken in." They are still tight in the toes and feel stiff. I am considering having them stretched by the local cobbler. My other pair of boots of this same model never had this problem, and they are a tad shorter in the sole. They were a non-coated leather, and maybe they stretched more than the black coated leather. Those boots lasted 8 years before the sole gave out! I still highly recommend Docs for long-lasting style!

Classic Dr. Marten's quality and style -
I started wearing these back in 1986, now my daughters want their own! These boots never die, never fail, and they are and will always be cool.
PS. You do have to break them in first!

Awesome -
I ordered late afternoon on a Thursday and had my docs the next morning! How's that for service!
I had to trade in my high heels for boots to work on a construction site, so I reverted to my old trusty Dr. Martens. They are still the best - sturdy, comfortable and still look cool. Just remember, it takes a week or so to break 'em in.

Leather not as high quality as the old UK Docs -
These shoes look as good as the old Docs, but the leather is of a lower quality. I am hoping after they break in that they feel similar to the other Docs I have owned.

Pleased...but -
First of all, the Zappos Customer Service is simply outstanding. They all were extremely helpful in every regard. The only problem I had was that the shoe color in person seemed darker than pictured on the website. I still like the color, it just happened to be different. All in all a great shoe. I will never buy shoes online unless it is from Zappos.

1460 DM still great shoes -
My husband bought these boots for me for Xmas in '05 and the dark cherry color is nice. I've owned 5 prs of Docs shoes over a 20 year period and they were all made in England. Some Docs are more comfortable than others according to the style. It's just the cut of the shoe to a person's foot. Re endurance factor I've had the oil tanned leather uppers wear out but have never had a problem with the soles. The stiff and smooth leather upper all hold up like iron. I was apprehensive about the China made quality of these boots but I must say they are my most comfortable Docs yet. Truly! I wear them at least 3 days a week for 8-9 hr stretches. They were just a bit stiff in ankles and top of boot initially but now they are my first choice for both walking long distances or standing on concrete all day. (Chinese make everything else these days, why not Docs.) I wear thick socks and have thin wool insoles to keep my feet warm on cold ground. The quality is there for me to recommend these and give them top rating. Zappos is great to buy from, easy return policy and are great in customer service so give them a try and hopefully you too will proclaim the comfort of these 'kicks'.

What happened to my old friend? -
I bought a pair of 14 eyelet Docs back in 1987, when I was young and thought I was cool. I wore them for 20 years off and on. I walked out of Ground Zero on 9/11 and for 9 hours more until I got home. I had to throw them out, with a tear in my eye, because the strain had finally destroyed them. I bought a new pair, hoping to have my foot friend back, only to find that Dr. Martens were no longer made in the UK, rather they had been made in Thailand. These boots LOOK like Docs, but they are made like a $10 Rolex. Where my old Docs still had treading on the sole after 20 years, I can dent the sole of these boots with my finger. What happened to the boots that took me through HS and out of Ground Zero?

1460 Cherry Reds -
The 1460's still look as good as ever. Despite the initial break-in period they hold their stiffness and shape really well. They seem to still be indestructible, just like the older British made docs. Where else can you find cherry red's other than Zappos? Gotta love it!

WSClark -
This is a near-perfect boot. It is instantly comfortable and can be worn all day without issue. I would recommend a short break-in, but you can put them on and go.
I first bought a pair of 1460's in the Sixties. Now, forty years later, it is still my favorite shoe. I have six pairs of Docs - three 1460 and three others.
The 1460 Docs are always the first out of the closet. My favorites are my black pair, but I do like the tan ones also. If you need a quality pair of boots, the 1460's are the ones for you.

I have not worn Docs in a while and this was just like "coming home" again! Great quality. Like other Doc's I've had, they do take a few wearings before they feel really comfortable, like your own. So worth it!

A gem in disguise -
These were a gift for my daughter who requested them but she wanted a color (that you don't carry). She was initially disappointed in the black... but now she has decided that the Black was the best way to go. She finds them more versatile for work, school and play. She says they are also quite comfy now that they are broken in. A great shoe for her. Thank you!

The Best -
Dr. Marten's are long lasting, classic, comfortable, and the smartest boot on the market. Our son has worn Dr. Marten's since high school and is still wearing them after finishing college and a master's degree. Don't think he'd ever consider wearing another shoe if he didn't have to dress-up for work. Dr. Marten's are the best!
