A fine dress shoe. This shoe fit and wears well. High quality leather provides for a very comfortable fit from the beginning. This is my new favorite work shoe.

Love the Ecco New City Plain Toe - This was my second pair of these and I love them. They are the most comfortable shoes I ever remember. Great for casual or for dress up.

My Standard - I began wearing Eccos over four years ago and, as long as they keep making them like this, I won't change. First, these shoes are extremely comfortable. The leather is supple and the sole and insert give and break in all the right places. Second, the shoes can be worn with everything from jeans to your best suit. It's just a question of polish. Finally, they are durable. I typically rotate between two pairs everyday and have done so for over a year with my last two pair. I can't count the miles, but they still shine up for dress duty.

I'd buy the rust color too, if Zappos stocked my size. Shoes arrived early November. Last week, I spent six days walking around New Orleans —City Park, Uptown, French Quater and Zoo. Changed inserts nightly. Very comfortable. Good support. Worth the money. Zappos service good.

Shoes for a tall guy - Size 14 is hard to find for a tall guy. I don't even give out compliments to my secretary on Secretary's Day, but this is a good shoe! Normally the first week of breaking in a new shoe hurts, but these shoes fit right and didn't hurt after a long day. They're comfortable, well made, and look good. This is my 2nd pair of Eccos. I recommend them.

Great shoe. I bought this shoe (in red) circa 1996 for a vacation to Europe. To keep luggage light, I wanted a general purpose walking shoe which would stand up to a lot of hiking through rugged ground (Italian countryside, cobblestone streets in hilltop villages, etc.), yet would also look good with khaki pants, navy blazer and tie in Rome's restaurants. These shoes performed great -in Italy, Britain, Australia, and Philadelphia. I've worn these shoes for several years now and they still hold up -although they're getting somewhat scruffed now. I plan to buy a replacement pair within the year. They look great with khaki pants and a polo shirt for tourism or business casual. In fall/winter, they go well with a Harris Tweed jacket. In my opinion, the shoes are like a Volvo -appropriate for elegant urban neighborhoods, tough enough to handle country terrain that destroys competitors, and able last almost forever if given a little maintance. I really like the moral value they show -a committment to good design and to being fair to the customer.

Jack Bailey. I searched for years for a comfortable pair of shoes. I finally found one in this shoe! When I first bought them, I never wanted to take them off! I have had them 2 years and they have worn very little. And I wear them a lot! I recommend this shoe - worth the money!!!

After looking for years for a comfortable and smart shoe for work and leisure in an unattainable size 12 I have found the range of Ecco shoes on my local high street. I now have 3 pairs of shoes and a pair of boots which have proven to be exceptionally hard wearing and retain their looks and comfort after years of wearing. My wife is also an Ecco wearer and her comments are the same.

Deceptively comfortable. Salesperson convinced me to pay more for a quality shoe, and I'm glad I did. Previously bought in the $100 range. The shoes would wear unevenly, and the heels would break. Not Ecco. The quality is obvious, the comfort amazing. I can even run to my car in comfort.

Best shoes I ever had! I am on my feet all day. In the office and out in the shop (machine shop) and they feel great! They are more durable and last longer! The quality leather material on my last pair look better than when new! I recommend paying the price and buying the shoes!

Ecco New City Plain Toe: Black - Overall, I am happy with this shoe. It looks great and is very comfortable. I wear it at the office and I keep on getting compliments on it. The only downfall is that it does feel a full size larger than marked, so I would recommend buying a size smaller than you are used to. I like these shoes so much that I am buying the brown and another black as a backup.

Great shoe with maximum comfort. Only problem I have is dye fades too quickly off shoe and needs to be polished more frequently than the average shoe.

Good construction, good fit, comfortable - I got these for my father who incidentally is very picky because he is a bit flat footed. He loved the shoe, the fit, the way it supports his feet. The shoe felt true to size, and very comfortable. I own a several pairs of Eccos myself and they have all been excellent.

Looks like a real shoe - Looks like a real shoe - not a comfort shoe. Comfort is something of a compromise as compared to other ECCo shoes I have worn.

Almost Perfect! Why any manufacturer would choose to sew a light brown lining in a black shoe is beyond me. The lining can be easily seen when one is wearing the shoe, sitting in a business meeting, and it looks tacky. The shoe is otherwise perfect, fits wonderfully, and is well cushioned.

Returning customer - Bought a pair of black and brown 2 years ago and just came back for my 2nd pair of each. My ratings (5* for comfort and look vs 4* overall) need to be explained. First, both of the former pairs had one big flaw. The black pair developed cracks along lines of flexion in the toe box. I wonder if this has some connection to the prep for black leather vs brown? The brown pair had both heel cups crack downward along the center line. Neither issue developed with the opposite pair so I don't chalk it up to my wearing habits. So while I like the look and comfort of the shoe, I expect more from the brand and more for the price. Lastly, having received my new pairs, the brown ones have an odd fade/discoloration where the bottom of the shoe lace flaps meet the mid-shoe. Debating if I want to go thru the hassle of returning them. Also, Ecco's are not big in the arch support area either. To sum up, these Ecco shoes look great, feel great, but lack that little bit more (wear, finish) that would make them truely outstanding. Maybe I expect too much from a pair of shoes?

Although this shoe looks a lot like it's predecessor, the previous Ecco New City Classic Plain Toe was more comfortable. It was more roomy in the toe area and lasted me a full five years. These shoes are still comfortable, but don't quite have the same quality of the earlier Eccos. They're nice for going through airport security screening though, cause they have no steel shank.

This shoe is somewhat large for a 7.5. I find that this shoe is very comfortable, but looks large.

Tighter than previous Ecco shoes. I have 4 previously purchased Ecco shoes, all in size 44 medium. They have all been comfortable from day 1. The New City Plain toe, though has been snug and rubs a little. I've only worn them twice (including today), and they're starting to feel better. Still a great shoe, but it might need a little stretching.

The New City Plain Toe is Okay if you're looking for a shoe that will dress you up. But if you're looking for any amount of styling, look elsewhere. In fact, I would recommend any number of other Ecco shoes for the simple fact that you can't find a more mundane styling than the New City Plain Toe. The only other bad thing I can say about this shoe is that they did scuff rather easily around the edges of the sole. They are well put together, though.

Unparalleled comfort - I bought this shoe as a replacement for the same shoes I bought four years earlier in Nu buck Suede.

Disappointed - Not worth the price, in my opinion. I work in a retail environment and have been scheduled 14 hour shifts, standing. I have always worn Rockports with excellent results, if you will. Wanted to try Ecco, something new and different. I am very disappointed.

Pointy toe - I got this shoe for my husband to replace his old Ecco City shoes, which lasted three years and were worth every penny. This shoe is completely different and lower quality than his last pair and we had to return them. Gone is the leather sole and rounded toe. He didn't mind the rubber sole, but these shoes were pointier and much too tight for my husband's wide foot.
