Bought this boot in Smoke size 8, normally wear 8 in Frye boots. It was too big, especially in the heel. Reordered in 7.5 and the heel was much better, but too tight in the toe. Sadly will be returning the second pair.

These are great boots. And the red (burgundy) color is perfect. I'd been looking for red boots and have never been able to find the right red until now. They are very comfortable and pretty true to size. (I'm 7.5 and ordered 7.5.) There is a bit of heel slip (but not as bad as a different Frye boot I have) which is why I gave them 4 stars instead of 5.

I love Frye boots; I have three pairs! The quality is superb, and I really like buying American made. (I wish Frye had a larger variety of such products.) I purchased these boots in my regular 6.5, but they were too large and I had to return them.

I purchased these in black after exchanging two different sized Frye boots. (Top notch customer service by the way) I found the Melissa Button after searching for an alternate and was a hit immediately with me with it's simple classic design! I opted for 1/2 size larger than my norm after going back and forth with another Frye boot that I was not crazy about. These do need a breaking in period, for me anyway. I love that they are pull on - and hoping they become like an "old shoe" soon, but also love the "non-slouchy' look. Perfect with leggings, dresses etc. The length of the shaft is I believe 17 inches which was perfect for my 5' 3" is frame and it sits just below my knee. They do rub against my achilles and hope that that will settle after a few wears. This rubbing is the only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars, it could also be the 1/2 size larger than norm.

They look cool, and are comfortable enough to wear all day. I do wish they came in widths, but this will do.

I would like to start by saying Iam a very frequent online shopper and I have never written a review on anything before but felt compelled to about these boots!I had been eyeing the Melissa button boot for quite a while and just didn't have the heart to pay the steep price tag for them! My husband decided to go to a boutique near our home that sells Frye and surprised me for our anniversary, needless to say I couldn't get the box open fast enough. After about 30 minutes of sweating& struggling I finally got the first boot on........which I then realized my very true 7.5 needed a 7 in these, I then attempted to put on boot #2 which never happened! I was devastated! I then went online and was baffled but after reading many reviews I realized I was not alone, I then decided to return the boots to our local store and go ahead and ordered the "wide" melissa buttons which I received yesterday and boom then slid on just like a normal pair of boots! I would also like to add that I have now measured my calf at its largest point and it is 13" and I have never needed a wide calf in any boot! I will be excitedly wearing them today......I ordered the cognac and they are beautiful! Hoping hubby surprises me with a second pair soon!

Love them totally.... color is not quite the same in each single boot, but that is fine... they are comfy, a little bit bigger.

I bought this boot in the whiskey color and it's beautiful. I wanted unique and I definitely got it...won't find another like it. Very comfortable and I love the style. I would've put five stars but there was a couple of places on the boot where the harness strap must've gotten stuck on the new paint and then ripped loose because there are definite lines in front and on back where it's just plain rough leather with no polish or paint see photos. I just had to keep them anyway because other than that discrepancy I love love love them! My third pair of Frye footwear and I just keep coming back!

I have wanted these boots for some time since I have the Harness Boots and they are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. The Melissa Boots with zipper up the back are as comfortable as my Harness Boots but I am a little dissapointed that the buttons keep unbuttoning so am able to give them only 4 stars.

These boots were beautiful! I wish they fit me. They were perfect in the length & width of the toes, however the heel was huge and my foot slipped right out. I do have slim heels though. I had to send them back.

Glad I got the short (8 in) boots because the shafts were surprisingly soft and flexible- and taller ones might be pretty floppy. I sized down half a size from my usual size because I know this harness style runs slightly big. These seem somewhat large in the ankle/heel area and are narrow in the toe/ball of the foot area. But from personal experience with my other Frye harness' they will stretch in the tight areas without much effort or time...I think the suede is something unique and more unusual than the smooth leather that has been around for decades. I think I will be wearing these alot with skinny's, leggings & dresses.

These boots are stunning. Just what I was looking for... quality leather, no buckles or unnecessary hardware. I knocked off a star because the right boot is a little larger in the shaft and width of foot. It's very obvious as I walk, and truthfully, it REALLY annoys me. This is the only time I've ever owned a pair of boots where one shaft felt nice and tight and the other felt like it was flapping around on my leg. They stay nice and upright, so it is what it is I guess. Oh well, they're still beautiful boots.

Loved the quality of the leather, however there was an actual line down the Center of the shaft because of the way they were packaged. They were also too tall for me and there was a wrinkle inside on the lining. I returned them.

I've been eyeing these boots for a while and finally decided to go for it. I love the classic style and the cognac color is very rich. The quality is a definitely a 5/5. I am giving this a 4/5 total because of comfort. The first time I wore these, I walked around the mall for a bit and came home with 4 blisters. I had to let my feet heal for a while before I was able to wear them again. I've worn them a few more times since and have had no trouble but I'm afraid to wear them for too long! I'm sure it won't be long before they are completely broken in though. I did order half a size up to allow room for thick socks and a bit more room for my muscular calves. One thing to note, the "Rugged" style leather is MUCH easier to get on than the "Antiqued/Polished" leather. If you have larger calves or wider feet I would definitely suggest going with the Rugged style.

I purchased the cognac distressed boots several weeks ago and absolutely LOVE them. After wearing for a few times they began to shape to my feet and stretch in the perfect way. The only reason I did not rate as 5 stars was due to the cost. The boots really are rather pricy, so I am hoping that they last for years to come! By far the most expensive pair I have purchased to date.

I got the black pair for Christmas and I like the look of these boots. They were a bit difficult to break in but now I love to wear them with tights and cute dress!

These are great boots! I had no problem with fit. I ordered my regular size 8 and that fits just fine. They are a tiny bit snug at the ball of foot area, but by third wearing it is just fine. For wide feet the boots may be a bit narrow. Other than that the fit is perfect and comfortable from the get-go. My only complaint would be color. The boots that I received do not look at all like the color of boot in the photo, which is a mottled brown/orange color that I love. The boots I got (and I shipped the first pair back and received the same color again) are plain brown leather. They are flat with no mottling, which is rather dull. The brass ring is dark, not brass colored like the photo. So overall I love the style and fit of the boots, but the color is not what I was thinking I would get. After two tries I just kept the plain brown boots. I suggest Zappos puts up a more accurate color photo for the tan boot.

I've had mine for over two years now. I don't get to wear them that often because it starts snowing about a month after it gets cold enough to wear these, and I won't wear them in the snow. They took a while to break in and gave me blisters during the process. I bought them in 7.5 (my normal size) but would probably size up to an 8 next time. However, they do fit well now after being broken in. After two years of wearing them, the sole now has a hole, so I am going to send them in to Frye to have them repaired. I have them in Light Brown and am very happy with the color as compared to the picture shown online.

These boots are the most comfortable boots to wear - once you get them on. I struggle pulling them on but once I achieve that moment when my foot slips in, they are wonderful. True to many reviews, I had to return a larger size and purchase a smaller size and I do have wide feet! So perhaps the smaller size impacts getting them onto my foot. I can wear them all day at work in a retail shop and look super cool while experiencing super comfort. Just wish I could perfect getting them onto my feet without such a workout!

BOOTS RUN LARGE - I usually wear an 8 but these are way too big. My heals slip up and down when I walk. I am returning these for size 7.

I've wanted to buy these boots for three years. I have not been disappointed. Very classic clean cut, looking very good with my favorite jeans. They are a little hard in the beginning, so you definitely need a good pair of socks, but they look like they are going to last forever. Thank you. Your fan and future customer!

You can't go wrong with Frye - I've had these boots for a year now and overall, they're great! Based on other reviews, I bought them in my true size. I have a narrow foot, so the boots are a bit roomy, but I feel that 1/2-size smaller would have been too small. I purchased a leather insole to take up the extra room. Having the insoles also work out well because they keep my feet from getting sweaty. Even with my narrow foot, they're like the devil to put on and take off. One other comment is that I feel the rubber heel wears too fast, even though I wear them only a few times a month. Regardless of any short-comings, these are very good boots, which I wholly recommend.

Beautiful boot - The toe is a little too tight and the heel is a little too loose, but I love this boot. It's gorgeous and with thin wool socks I can put up with slight fit problems.
