Brought the Veronica short first and didn't like how it look. The Engineer has a slimmer fit and looks more proportional to my height (5'0). Very comfortable, but not much arch support though.

I bought these in black about two years ago and they still look brand new! I wear them in the rain, snow, slush, ice, summer, winter, fall you name it they work for everything! These were my first pair of Frye boots and loved them right out of the box. I have a normal width foot so they fit great and I got them in a size 9 which is my normal sizes in boots. Also, I have a muscular calf and these boots look great on me, I would recommend them to everyone. They are very stiff and have to be worn in, but once they are it is so worth the time and money. I will most likely end up buying them is the brown color as well at some point because they are just that awesome! I love to wear mine with tight, a dress, and fav my leather jacket! Buy them you will not regret it! They are quality, comfort, and style all wrapped up into one.

These are the best boots I've ever owned. I wore my first pair almost daily for 4+ years and just finally got myself new ones (and my mom has my old ones, they're still going strong!). They're a bit on the heavy side but sometimes you want that in a boot. They're very comfortable. My only gripe is that they don't make them in a 10.5, I have to size up to an 11.

After YEARS of wanting to get these boots, I finally ordered them when my favorite boots (different brand) broke. These boots are not for the faint of heart...These are serious boots. Well made and built to last...At first, I thought I wouldn't be able to get my feet into them, but with some patience, I did and after a minor break in period, I'm in love with them. I'm a pharmacist and on my feet all day at work. These boots comfortably hold up all day! They feel solid and stable under my feet. I wear them under jeans and they look great. I know that I will not hesitate to purchase another pair of Frye boots. I love them!

This are great boots. They took some breaking in, but after a week of walking Florence's city streets they fit wonderfully. The quality is superior...feels like they will last forever!

Yay! These arrived in less than 2 days of ordering, replacing 2 boots I was not happy with. I should have just gone straight for the real thing in the first place! The boots a beautiful and I know they will last forever. I did order up 1/2 a size to be able to wear thick socks. It takes a little bit to get them on initially, but easier with each wearing. Comfortable right out of the box. I love the shorter length of the boot...as a petite woman these don't make me look like I'm wearing my husband's boots nor cut me in weird places. I will need to add an arch support, but I almost always need to do that. There's nothing like going for quality! And while it took a few tries, Zappos makes it so easy to succeed, thanks!

These are really nice looking boots! I have wide feet; like an E and I bought these half a size larger but still not convinced that they would work. They feel great and I have walked in them quite far without a hitch. They are hard to pull on but getting easier each time as the leather softens although it was quite soft when I got them.

I LOVE these boots. These are my first pair of Frye's and worth every penny. I bought both the Frye Engineer 8R and 12R for a side-by-side comparison and decided to keep these over the 12Rs. I am 5'2", 120 lbs, with an athletic build and the 12Rs made me look even more short and stocky. The 8Rs are the perfect length to add a little edgy vibe to any outfit. There is serious craftsmanship that goes into these boots, and you can tell by slipping them on they are going to last a long time. Great investment piece and I'm excited to not have to invest in another pair of short black boots for at least several years.

These are awesome boots! I ordered them in a 5.5 which is my actual shoe size. At first I though they were too small, but after wearing them for a few weeks, they fit great! I debated between getting black and gaucho, and finally decided on gaucho. It is a beautiful color. It seem to go with everything! Love the boots, love Zappos!

My favorite boots ever! So comfortable for walking all over the city...but there is definitely a break-in period. The leather still looks great even after a year of many wears. They look awesome with skinny jeans, skirts, even dresses!

I wear a 9, bought a 8 1/2 and they fit great! No rubbing & not hard to get on. They look nice with skinny jeans, leggings or whatever.

Great boots, the fit is true to size. I have a high instep so with a shoe horn they are easy to put on. All in all totally satisfied with this purchase.

I love these boots. The goucho color is great, gives them that old look. The only break in for me was the top Round my calf rubbed until the leather softened. Zappos you are the best

These are my all time favorite boots. After they were broken in they were so incredibly cozy. They are also very versatile and look good with pants, shorts or dresses.

As usual, Frye is the best. I have had these for several months, and they still look new. They hold up against any type of weather.

I love these boots! They're stylish, comfortable, waterproof. I can go on and on. I'm usually a 7-1/2 but I bought the 8 because another review advised so. Ended up exchanging the 8 for a 7-1/2. The first time I walked with these in NYC, I wasn't wearing proper 'boot socks' so the back of the boot rubbed up against my ankle. While I gave this time to heal with some Neosporin band aids and moleskin, I wore proper boot socks and they felt great; I can walk forever in them (well not really, but you know what I mean). They are a bit of a hassle to put on and take off; I have to sit/squat/bend over to get my feet in there and to take off, but maybe that's because I have wide feet. If you can get past that, these are great boots, truly worth the price!

These boots area beautiful and wonderfully crafted! And THANK YOU ZAPPOS! for having them at the best price and an INCREDIBLE return policy! Word of caution these boots are made for narrow average feet with average arches! If you have wider feet I suggest going up at least 1/2 a size to one size to accommodate the boot. Also because the toes are narrow you might have to invest in boot stretching; I highly recommenced Redwing boots to measure your feet and have them stretched to perfection (and to give you sock room if needed), and a shoehorn so you don't damage the back!! But the boots are totally comfortable no additional inserts needed for comfort! These boots are the best buy I've made in ages!

These are gorgeous boots -- beautiful quality and the brown color seems to go with everything. They are heavy, but it didn't take long to get used to them. I did find that they hurt the top of my foot really bad at first. I ended getting the boot stretched at a cobbler. It still hurts a bit, but is much better. I don't have problems getting the boot on like others do. I find them true to size. I'm a 7 in other Frye boots and ordered the 7.

These boots are the best! I think I bought them at least 10 years ago to wear because I ride a Harley. They have been through torrential rain and even hail and yes, got soaked all the way through, but they have lasted. I did buy some waterproofing stuff to help, but again, they are the best. I just got the 12R, still not 100% sure I will keep them since I wear them in a lot of hot weather in the summer. My best friend encouraged me to keep these and buy the 8R. I don't know. I highly recommend these boots - rider or not.

I love these boots! They are a little difficult to get on at first, but once your foot is in them they fit great! True to size. I could wear thin or thick socks with these boots. I got them in the color Gaucho and love the dark brown. If you are thinking about buying a pair of Frye's...these are the boots to get!

I am in love with these boots. My father has two pairs of Frye boots, one from the 70s and one from the 80s. Needless to say they are an investment. They are made in America which is a bonus as well. I had no problems with the size at all. I would recommend these to anyone looking to get out of their uggs and into something different.

I now own two pairs of these in black and brown. I normally wear 8.5 but on the advice of reviewers here, I tried both 8.5 and 9. I actually prefer the 9 with thick socks than the 8.5 with thin socks (I sent the 8.5s back). I get lots of compliments on these and they look great with leggings and boot-cut jeans. The quality is very high -- the leather is wonderful. Highly recommend!

These boots are fantastic! The leather and construction are the quality one would expect from Frye. Yes, they are more expensive than some but I fully expect to have these boots forever. I love the styling on these boots. I even walk differently when I am wearing them! Because these boots do not have zippers, they are more difficult to get in and out of. I don't think someone with wide feet or tall arches would find it easy to get these boots on and off, especially wearing thicker boot socks. I have low arches and medium width feet and I had to let out the strap to its maximum to make it easier. Because I've only had these boots for a couple of weeks I don't know if they will stretch over time. Bottom line is that I highly recommend these boots.
