This boot is so beautiful. Normally wear size 7, but they were unavailable so I got 6.5 hoping for the best. There was enough room for my toes, but it was tight across the top and my heel flopped up. My other Frye boots were a dream out of the box, so I didn't want to chance having to try to wear them in without a good result for the price. This isn't a bad review, just sad I didn't catch my size. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I bought these 8Rs in black soon after purchasing the 12Rs in gaucho, which I LOVE! These black ones were surprisingly disappointing. They were much smaller and more dainty looking than I had expected. I wanted a more tough looking, motorcycle boot and these were just not hitting the right notes for me. They hit a weird place on my leg and just didn't have the same awesome style that my 12Rs do. They did have the incredible Frye craftsmanship that you would expect. I felt bad sending them back, but they just weren't what I was hoping for!

I can't attest to their longevity or comfort as I had to return these for fitting a full size larger than marked. I am normally in between a 6.5 and a 7, and these felt like an eight. My toes were a full 2 inches from the end of the shoe. Even if I wore 3 pairs of thick socks, these would be no where close to my size. As for their visual appeal: while I liked the general design I found the black to resemble a rain boot in texture and appearance. The sole extends past the width of the shoe and in one section looked to be roughly cut and had a bit of rubber protruding (was not even/smooth around the circumference of the boot). All in all I'm pretty disappointed, and likely won't try ordering a size smaller.

I've had these boots for over a year and a half now. They're absolutely beautiful, but comfort wise they haven't worked out that well. I prefer a lighter weight boot, and these are on the heavy side. They have held up really well, and the quality is really fantastic. I think I could wear these boots every day for the next five years and they would still be in great condition. I prefer to wear these with cushy socks.

Wow, quite stiff at first. Narrow in the toe. Going to try the Harness style next. This is one of the Frye styles Made in USA.

I'm getting ready to try my third attempt at these shoes, only because they are made in USA and extremely cute. My first pair were perfect on the outside, but after walking a long distance it felt as though something was between the footbed and insole on the left shoe. Zappos is awesome and agreed they were defective, allowing me to return the boots even though I'd worn them outside. Just received my replacement pair today, immediately could tell something was "off". Not sure if they are a previous return or just poor workmanship. The toes on both boots are scuffed and the left boot is gouged. I chose the black, and this type of leather should look new when it's new. Yes, I'll likely scuff them, but it's the principal and for this amount of money, I don't want someone else's scuffed shoes. So... third time, hopefully will be the charm. Much love to Zappos though!

I ordered these FRYE boots with the quality I can always count on when spending the money for a pair of FRYES.....however, I wasnt as pleased with the overall fit and quality of the leather of this particular style. The heel is not a "flat fit" and the toe was more rounded than expected. I do love the actual color of this brown boot. I ended up keeping them because I wasnt able to return them & get a another style before a trip. I have gotten compliments and they are waering on me. This style is just not one of my favorites of the Frye line.

This is my first day wearing the boots. The leather is definitely heavy-duty and will last a long time - just what I was looking for. I normally wear a 10 and that's what I ordered. The boots were hard to put on and tight over the arch. If Zappos had them in 10.5, I would exchange. Hopefully by following the breaking-in tips from other reviewers, these will stretch and be more comfy.

I love this boot. I would love it even more if I could get it on my foot.
The left boot went on with difficulty yesterday; the right went on with even more struggling. Today I cannot even get the right boot on.
I just don't understand why; I have never had this problem before. Maybe they can be stretched out?

These look really cute online but for my chubby legs, they are not flattering. They are also very stiff. However, with sock above the cuff, they weren't that bad. I am going to try a square toed Frye instead!

I bought the Engineer 8R under the impression that US-made and the expensive price would mean very high quality. The leather had punch marks from ripping out seams along the toe, top of foot, and heel. The seams didn't hold up around the ankle and after wearing only a few times the top edge began to unravel. For such an expensive pair of boots, I would expect better quality control

With no zipper on this boot and an unlined inside, it was impossible to get these boots on. Would not recommend.

I bought these boots about two years ago because a friend said they were the best boots you could own. They are the worst boot I have bought. I don't wear them much because they are so uncomfortable. Big mistake. Very unhappy.
