I bought these bought about three weeks ago. I'm a size 8.5 and the 8.5 fit well. A little snug pulling them on but otherwise true to size. Leather is beautiful except I am pretty certain I was sent the gaucho color and not dark brown. I was disappointed that it wasn't the right color but my sale receipt states no returns and no exchanges. These don't look at all like the dark brown I was hoping for. But they are otherwise awesome boots.

Wonderful boots! I have them in both heights and wear them with just about everything!

I loved these boots, they are super durable. I ended up returning them, because they didn't look great on me. BUT when they are on, you feel like you could conquer the world. The fit was spot on. I might have even tried a 1/2 size down. The shaft circumference was a bit wider than I was expecting, but it made it so much easier for the boot to slide on since there isn't a zipper. The boot in general was great but a little too clunky for me.

This boot can be tough to get on if you have high arches and it doesn't have anything to help you pull it on...other than that, very nice boot!

I wear a size 10 unless it is high heels, in which I am closer to a 9½. These are awesome boots but sadly I will return them as they are just a bit too big in which my foot flops around inside while I walk.

I *love* Frye boots. They are gorgeous and are fabulously made. I have tried three different styles of Fryes--most recently these ones and none of them fit. I can't even get them on. I have wide feet and high arches and I can't get my foot through the 'throat' of the boot (past the bend). I cried a little when I had to send these back because they are so nice, but I just need to accept the fact that Fryes aren't for me. I sized up 1/2 size on these and I have tried sizing up a full size in the past and it doesn't seem to make a difference--they are just too narrow and won't work if you have a high arch. If you are like me--learn from my sadness and save yourself the heartbreak! Zappos was as awesome as always. I never buy shoes from anywhere else. They got my Frye boots to me the next day after I ordered them and they make returns to easy. If you are in the market for a really good quality cowboy boot and you have feet like mine I would recommend Old Gringo boots. I now have a pair of Old Gringos that are super comfortable and awesome.

I adore these shoes. I got the 8R in black. This was my second pair of Frye's, and I'm a devotee. Poetically, I wear these trekking around my college campus where I'm studying engineering. Zappos originally sent me a size smaller than I ordered, and upgraded my account to VIP status as soon as I called to fix the mistake. So props to Zappos for the service and props to Frye's for the awesome shoes. The one negative aspect of these boots is the interior. I've had these boots for a year now, and I still quake in fear when it comes to wearing them with white socks or tights. I now have several pairs of white socks with black dye permanently patterned on them. I've also worn my engineer boots with tights, and have had my tights pill spectacularly at the top of the boots.

I purchased these in gaucho and the color is amazing. I did have to return them, though, because they were a bit short. I am usually on the smaller side of a size 7 so that's what I went for, despite all of the reviews advising going larger. I found a 7.5 at a local shop and they are perfect; this boot is comfortable and really good looking. And they make my feet look smaller, I love that. Zappos was great as usual.

Researching on Zappos about this boot. Got it elsewhere at a discounted price but didn't get any real information on the boot. I'm not used to lower-heeled boots, but they seem to be very comfortable. I have a wider foot with a medium arch (usually wear 9.5 W), so bought the black boot, in a 10 and they fit with a normal ankle sock...so I'd say they are pretty true-to-size, maybe even a tad narrow. So if you have a more slender foot, you won't be slipping-and-sliding around inside. Despite it being a little tight on me, I figure since they are a quality leather, I'm sure they'll soften nicely over time. Around the ankle and lower calf, it's really loose, even if you tighten the straps (which only have 2 holes), but I guess that's part of the look. One weird thing are those little green dots on the bottom, when walking on my kitchen floor, I can sort of feel them...not too distracting, but I know they are there. I like them and I'm excited to wear them out and not be complaining all the time how my feet hurt.

These boots are great looking and seem like good quality. I'm sending mine back, however, since I have a wide foot with a narrow heel. The heel on these boots is very big, and I step out of them as I walk. the heel seems bigger than other boots (Ugg, Blundstone, etc.) that I own. Other than that, I probably would have loved them.

I ordered the black 8R engineers over a year ago and they are my go to when heading out in DC for a night on the town. I normally wear a size 9 in heels but I purchased these in a 10 as I have a very high instep and getting boots on is always a struggle. The right boot still seems to be a little more difficult to put on but I think that's a personal issue. The leather was really hard when I first got them but it is starting to soften up and look more worn in. They are rather heavy and I have experienced some toe numbness after walking around in them for a long time but they're so stylish I'll give it a pass. The breaking in period is very minimal as the first time I ever wore these was for a weekend in NYC. These were the only shoes I took and therefore I was forced to wear them in the airport, while shopping, sightseeing, and dancing! The black is definitely a motorcycle look so if you're wary of looking too tough, go for the gaucho.

This shoe is really nice but it's really heavy and, while I needed to wear socks with the shoes, it was really difficult to put the shoes on with socks.

Be advised that these boots are heavier than what you might be accustomed to wearing. I should preface this by saying that I am typically wear either sneakers or flats, and when I wear boots I have always opted for western/cowboy styles (which tend to have light soles and supple leather uppers). Motorcycle boots? Entirely different story. The leather on these is thick and stiff, and overall the boots feel clunky and heavy on the my feet. Although they fit true to size, they are roomy in the heel, which makes walking in them all the more awkward. The shaft is also roomier than is probably necessary. It was my legs, not my feet that were aching after the first day that I wore them. Learning to walk in them is a workout. You get used to it eventually (and it helps that the leather softens up) but these are still not the shoes that I reach for when I know I will be wandering around a museum all day. I like the style and aesthetic of these, but their weight and overall rugged design makes them less than practical. My tall Phillip harness boots are still the ones I reach for more often.

Great style, and not difficult to get on, but not instantly comfortable either. These have taken some breaking in - they are as other reviewers mentioned tight across the top of the foot and to some degree, my toes feel a little restricted. But I just wore then for a couple of days straight and ran around a lot and they do feel like they will eventually be super comfortable. I don't have a lot of patience for the breaking in period.

I received these boots as a gift, in dark brown. Overall I love the style, color and quality, but the comfort is another story. Living in a cold climate, the Engineer's leather is tough and durable, it can withstand a lot of snow, and it has excellent traction for walking on ice. The main complaint I have is that the leather at the back of the ankle is too tough, they were rubbed raw, even with thick socks! They are difficult to put on, especially on my left foot. I hope they do soften up, because they are beautiful. I would recommend these boots for narrow feet.

Love the way these look, but very hard to get on and very hard to get off. Sadly, had to return because they hurt the top of my foot, which ended up red and raw. If not for that, the size felt true. I do love Zappos!

These are seriously adorable boots and would have been comfy, but they were too big for me!! My feet were swimming in them. I'm a true size 5 and they were huge... I knew I was in trouble the moment my feet just slipped right in because other reviewers complained how hard these are to get on. So SAD!! I wish they made size 4 or 4½. Anyone with bigger feet are lucky gals to strut in these beauties.

I really want to love these boots. Once on they are beautiful, but getting them on is super difficult. The right boot is easy to get on, the left is extremely hard. I even bruised my foot trying to get it on. That being said I can tell they will stretch and start to get easier to slip on. At least I'm hoping. I just purchased a shoe horn to help with the process. I ordered the 8 and the 8.5. I am usually an 8.5 and I found that the 8 fits better, although there is not much difference between the two. I thought that the 8.5 would be easier to get on than the 8, but strangely I found the 8.5 more difficult. Go figure.

I love Frye boots. Have several pairs. Even have this exact style but taller. Was very very disappointed in the quality of this pair. The inside foot bed was not smooth where it transitioned from the heal to the rest of the foot. Especially in one of the boots. Massive quality control issue. Was so excited for my new pair and they are not wearable. This is not an issue of having to break them in. Like I said, I have many pairs or Frye boots.

I thought this would be dark brown but it's more like a mushroom brown color. I still love the boot and the fit and style. But kinda disappointed with the color. I will be keeping the boot regardless. My feet slightly grew after having a baby so I'm normally size 9 but I got a 9.5 and it fits me perfectly. I have wide feet and I thought the width is perfect also. The boot itself is kinda heavy so we will see how comfortable this is after a whole day out walking. Also another note this came with some kind of stain on the front of the boot belt that I cannot seem to remove easily, which shows in the picture I will post. Looks like glue. So the color and the glue stain is kinda disappointing.

I bought these boots about 6 months ago; they are a little wide for my foot, so still trying to find a way to deal with that. I love the look of them, and the ease of taking them on and off; but they're still stiff to wear, and rub my ankles pretty bad if I don't wear high socks. I wish there was more padding on the in sole. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This boot is so beautiful. Normally wear size 7, but they were unavailable so I got 6.5 hoping for the best. There was enough room for my toes, but it was tight across the top and my heel flopped up. My other Frye boots were a dream out of the box, so I didn't want to chance having to try to wear them in without a good result for the price. This isn't a bad review, just sad I didn't catch my size.
