These are the shortest size 9 I have ever tried on. They are not very roomy in the toe box; too narrow.

I really love the feel of these; unfortunately, the decorative stitching pulled out after I wore them around the house for 30 minutes or so. Since my size is no longer available, I will trying sewing them myself, but for 90 dollars, I'd expect a bit more quality control.

This Altra Superior 3 footwear fits to snug, No extra space to feel comfortable around foot. Very Narrow! Length true to size!

I really wanted these shoes to work out. I was surprised at how much smaller they were for a size 12. I ultimately need them a smidge longer and wider as they were not wide enough for my feet either. I've got issues with my feet so need plenty of room in the toe box which is why I tried this brand.

These seem very light weight and cheap. the soles seem to be like the material that crocks are made out of. No arch support. I am not a runner maybe these are good for some people for some reason.

I've been running on Altra's for over 3 years - anywhere from 15-25 miles a week - I have worn the instinct's for all of that time, but recently the instrinct 4's came out and the sizing is a bit different and unfortunately I'm in-between the new sizes... so I decided to try the escalante's. First - these things are so comfortable - the fit is great and the feel like you're not even wearing a shoe... but, uh oh, after running, major knee and ankle pains... I've been a barefoot style runner for 10 years - and never had an ounce of pain after my initial transition... until now... And I talked to Altra, amd unfortunately the "30 day guarantee" only applies if you buy shoes from them :-( oh well... guess it's time to start searching for another zero drop, wide toebox running shoe...

My favorite running shoe. That said they aren't without some problems. I gravitate towards Altra for the foot shaped last which is unlike any other running shoe on the market. The main problem I have with this shoe is that the toe box tends to wrinkle a bit and rub on my toes. Otherwise the shoes are durable, perfect amount of cushioning for my messed up feet (not overly cushy though which usually causes knee pain for me). If they can change the material of the toe box that is really my only issue. When it puckers and hits my toes it drives me nuts. Oh and yeah, they're hideous looking so you aren't going to get any dates wearing these.

One of the best looking Altra shoes so far by far. Altras are normally hideous. That said I love their foot shaped last and theres really no other running shoe like that on the market. Half size too small. Nice and light and responsive if you're looking for a cushy ride look elsewhere. If these were more true to size I'd give them a 5....

These fit true to size and had nice room in the toe box. I did not like the "spongy" insole. I actually removed it and put a different one in and they felt better. The sole was very stiff also. So I decided to send these back and wear my Merrell hiking shoes to walk in.

Run oddly small- normal shoe size is 7.5, but I always size up to 8.5 for running shoes. In these, my toe hits the edge, and I'll need a 9 which is unheard of for me. Beware, and size up! (I own several altras, too)

I am so disappointed with this shoe! This is my 4th pair of Altra Ones. I am so unhappy with this latest iteration. There is more cushioning which is causing toe numbness; and the laces are positioned differently than older versions and pinch the top of my foot. They felt ok walking around the house but were terrible about a mile into my run. Now I'm stuck with a crappy shoe. I'll being buying several pairs of the last model (One 2.5) while I can still find it.

i got these for a hiking trip to italy. wore them once on a long walk locally. thank goodness i did. i have a terrible bunion so i need a wide forefoot. this definitely had that but the ankle area was so big my foot kept slipping out. i got a terrible blister and my feet were killing me. i ordered a half size smaller than i normally take. just bad.

Tried on an 11 of these in a retail store and it was so small I thought the 12 would fit for sure. No Dice. I think these would be great trail running shoes if the fit was there. Not all that attractive, but at this point I'm more into happy feet than style. Please, Altra, make an 11.5.

Loved this shoe, but too short--Altra really needs to make an 11.5!

Like this shoe; a bit less padded, but good toe room, though perhaps not as much as other Altras. Grey color pretty dark, might make good street shoe. However, I'm between sizes--Altra please please please make an 11.5!!

I really love the style of these shoes. I was so anxious to get them but they were too small despite ordering a half size up as reviews recommended. Exchanged for another half size up. Can't wait to get them. Zappos customer service is off the charts awesome!

This is the 6th pair (maybe even more) of Altra's that I have owned. They are super comfy, don't need to be broken in and have a wide to box. I have wide feet so this is especially helpful for me. I like the lone peak for hiking!

Runs small. Size 8 is usually just right to too big for me, and in these 8s my toes were hitting the end of the shoe. They also felt more narrow than my previous Altras. Cushioning was very good.

I really liked these shoes. They ran small so I was going to exchange them for a larger size. I was looking on the Altra website and found out that the have a Prop 65 warning. Deal Breaker. Sadly they are going back.

I have dealt with Achilles Tendonosis for almost two years and haven't been trail running in that period of time :( . Transitioning to Zero-drop/natural-shape shoes is part of my treatment (one that has worked anyway), and I am gearing toward getting back to trail running. Most trail runners in this style have too thin of an outsole for me at this point in my treatment. I can walk fine in Lems and Escalantes, but getting back into running I need something more substantial. My other complaint with most running shoes (even barefoot style ones) is that they have too high of an arch on the lateral edge. This design choice baffles me. Most people have a substantial inner arch, not lateral. Both Merrells and most Altras I have returned for this reason. It ends up causing quite a bit of pain in an area where I had none previously and makes my foot pronate more than what is normal. Altra Superiors looked perfect, but I found them to have too pronounced of a lateral arch and also too rigid of a sole. I nearly tried Lone Peak's but read about their questionable durability. When I saw the Timp was coming out, I was excited by many of the design choices and ordered a pair as soon as they were available. I have only hiked in these a few times over the past month, not yet any running. But I am very pleased with the traction, cushioning, and durability of them so far. I hiked in them in the King Range coast in California and in the Central Oregon High Desert, and they did an amazing job of keeping out sand/dirt (vastly superior to my Lems in this regard), but still very breathable. There is a very slight lateral arch, but very minor and has not been a problem. I am very excited to run in these in the muddy hills of Forest Park in the fall/winter. Due to its reflectivity and gaiter attachment, I might consider them as my winter bike commuter shoes, assuming the dry easily. My one complaint has to do with a combination of sizing and lacing. Most sites (including Altra's) claim this model runs true to size. I would follow that of other reviewers and go a 1/2 size up instead. I wear 11 1/2 in most shoes, and I wish I had gone up to a 12. The odd thing is, it's snug on TOP of my big toe, as though there isn't enough room above it in the Timp, as opposed to in front of it. I have this issue with my Escalantes as well and ended up taking the insole out for a perfect fit. But those are a very flexible mesh. The Timp has a hard rubber toe cap which is inflexible and cramps top of my big toe. Removing the insole was a little better, but not as cozy and made my heel feel a bit loose. I then realized the Timp's lacing system actually PULLS the material over the big toe - basically cinching the big toe up toward the tongue, which I think is more the root of the problem (also encouraging toe-spring). I ended up re-lacing them, leaving the front two spots open, so that it laces AROUND my foot - the way a lacing system should. It certainly looks cool, but I hope they design this with a more normal lacing pattern in future versions. Otherwise the Timp is near-perfect for my needs.
