Normally I buy Altra for how well the wide toe box works for my foot. Unfortunately there is something about how these shoes are made that is too constricting just below the toe box.

Overall the shoes were good. The main issue is around the mid-foot, at the top of laces, is too tight. There is no play or stretch around there. The toe box had plenty of space to spread my toes, but that one band that goes across the top of the laces is too restrictive.

Love these, they showed up as I was leaving for the airport; I tried them on quickly and decided to take them with me, i decision I was nervous making. It ended up working out wonderfully. They have a great cushioned neutral fit with a wide toe box that I put many miles on every day on a two week trip in Europe. They saw many steps and even some snow, would buy these again in a heartbeat.

What I particularly like about these shoes is the shape of the toe box. Most shoes taper in on the big toe causing me issues. These don’t. What I don’t like is the fact that the tongue doesn’t stay put and slides to the side. There is no loop on the tongue to insert the laces through to help the tongue stay put.

bought these as a gift but going to have to return them. the other reviews are correct about the instep being too tight. aside from that making the shoes impossible to wear for any length of time, they are otherwise the correct size and the quality seems ok (albeit a more rigid in style/material than most other Altras previously worn by the recipient).
