I initially ordered the US size 8 (European size 39) using the guide on the webpage. Unfortunately, they were way too long, so I exchanged them for the size 38 (which is what I wear in the Dansko brand). When I first put them on, I got concerned since they seemed so short! But I had heard that the Seibel shoes are like that at first and have to be worn a bit so that the foot settles in (my mother was told that in a shoe store and has a pair of Seibels). Sure enough, I wore it a bit and then forgot that I was even wearing them after an hour of thinking they were still too short. Width not a problem (I am more a narrow/average foot). I like the black, goes with a lot of clothes, and the covered toe is appropriate in more situations -- maybe even a casual workplace. I would just say that you need to wear the shoes a while to have the foot settle into them. The support is great and I don't need my orthotics in them.

I was really drawn to the style of this Seibel. Seibel's seem to vary greatly in sizing from style to style and typically like most Euro made shoes, have narrower toes, wider heels. This one seemed to be the opposite. Unfortunately, one of the areas of the "x" accent on the inner heel area of the right side, did not sit flush and was digging into the side of my ankle at that point. As someone else wrote, the little toe was not covered by the strap area. Disappointing in a well-made, lightweight, leather shoe. Zappos does have an amazing selection and great service.

Still deciding about these shoes - I ordered them because they looked comfortable, and I really loved the red color. There is a little spot on the inner part of foot that seems to be rubbing, however. I will wear them around the house for a few days to see if they improve, otherwise I'll have to send them back.

I have purchased many pairs of Joseph Seibel shoes because they are always comfortable. I was surprised to find that in a very short wearing these rubbed across my toes so badly that they bled. They did not improve with subsequent attempts to wear them. I will be ordering my third pair of "Ida" because they are super comfortable.
