One of the soles delaminated on my pair of chukka's after 2 months of wear. The rear of the soles have 3 layers of what appears to be MDF. If it isn't MDF, it's a low quality wood. I got them wet and the right sole's bottom layer of 'MDF' expanded, protruded from the plane of the back of the sole, then started to separate from the middle layer of MDF. The finish of the soles is a lacquer that assists with giving the cheap wood a grain. The lacquer was starting to come off with wear (I wore these for work in a manufacturing facility). The lacquer aging didn't bother me so much as the cheaply made sole. The soles also have a sticker that claims 'sole made in Mexico.' I was expecting a lot more from Redwing. Luckily, I bought these here at Zappos and they allowed me to return them almost 2 months after I purchased them. I haven't bought all of my shoes from Zappos, but from now on I will. I sent in pictures of the issue and a description and they immediately forwarded me a shipping label. What a relief, especially after this disappointment. If you plan to wear these as a work boot, stay away. If you plan on wearing these for casual occasion, don't walk in wet conditions. I may have just had a defective sole, but I suspect that the lacquer seals the MDF, so once that's gone, reseal the sides of the sole. I should have listened to the other 1 star review, but the style and name drew me in. I'm still on the fence whether I will give Redwing another shot.

These boots are wonderful. They feel great and look great. They do take awhile to break in. The sides will rub your ankles and drive you crazy. However, once they are broken in... They are the most comfortable boots ever.

Bought these at my local Red Wing store for business casual daily work wear. I usually wear 9 or 43 euro and got 8-1/2 D in these, and they're appropriately snug with a pair of Smartwool dress socks. They are my favorite pair of shoes.

I really loved the Beckman Chukka out of the box. It's a beautiful boot and unlike some reviews, I found it to be very comfortable practically right from the get-go. The issue that I had with it was how the leather wore after a few days of wearing them. It wasn't just creasing, which is to be expected, but the right shoe in particular developed wrinkles and cracking from the toe box all the way up the tongue. I was disappointed, but I will say when I contacted Zappos about it they were helpful as always and offered to do whatever necessary to make sure I am 100% satisfied. My friends probably think I'm on the Zappos payroll, because I'll take any opportunity to sing their praises. Back to the boot: My issues may be related to sizing. I went with the 11D, which is as large as I wear in any shoe, after trying the 10.5D and finding it to be too small, mostly in width. A 10.5E probably would have been just right, and may have alleviated the issue I had. The toe box is very roomy and the boot is quite comfortable overall. The description notes that this style is recommended for lower arches, and mine are slightly on the high side, but I didn't find arch support to be an issue. In summary, it's a great, stylish boot that should probably fit a little snug when you first try it on. Be wary of going up in size to accommodate a wide foot. Consider conditioning the boot per Red Wing's instructions (brushing and boot cream) as you break them in. A pair of shoe trees probably wouldn't hurt, either.

Nice looking shoe, but slightly odd fit. Runs a bit narrow and long, which means its not ideal for those with wide feet. Looks good, though, and well made.

I was attracted me to these boots because of their looks and materials. I currently own several Red Wings (Beckman 9011 and 9016) and they are similar in construction however the 9011 and 9016 are built on a last 8 while this model 9024 is built around last 224 (a last is a form in the approximate shape of a human foot, used by shoemakers in the manufacture and repair of shoes). While models 9011 and 9016 seem to run a little larger, model 9024 felt more true to size all around; so I recommend ordering your true size (otherwise, exchanges are easy with Zappos). Like other Redwing Heritage models there is no arch support and no cushioning of any kind, just a leather footbed, which is supposed to mold to your foot over time as you break-in your new leather boots. It feels like walking on wood. I like arc support and use insoles on all my Red Wings, however, due to a more accurate fit; I could not use full-length insoles on this model, as the pressure on the top of my foot (right at the base of the metatarsals) was too much. I end up using a 34" length Powerstep Pro insoles, which you can get via Amazon at a very good prize. Remember that foot comfort is more to do with proper support than lots of cushioning, so using a good insole like the Powersteps Pro will make a huge difference on your feet, especially if you, like me, are on your feet a lot. I decided to break in these boots without using insoles first. I wore them for a week with thick socks (made for steel toe boots, they are thick all around your foot, not just the bottom, wolverine has some nice cotton socks for steel toe boots and you can get them at JC Penny). After a week I put the 34" Powerstep Pro insoles and the rest is history. The boots look great with jeans, or khakis, casual or business casual. I do not think they will cut it for business attire let alone a suit and tie, but you will not go wrong with a nice pair of jeans, long sleeve shirt and a sport coat. The boots do draw some attention, as they are not your average shoes, just look around and you will see. They will take a great shine as you wax them. Bottom line, I am very happy with my purchase.

I purchased these and subsequently returned them simply because they were incredibly narrow and the top of the chukka hit my ankle just perfectly enough to be annoying. These look fantastic, there is no denying that. But unfortunately, they just fit all wrong for me. I ended up going with the Red Wing Heritage Beckman boot and they have been perfect in the exact same size that I ordered the chukka in. As others have said, order a full size down.

What a great shoe. The highest quality; thick and rich leather. As such, expect some "break-in" time. But after the break-in period they're like butter on the feet. I have nerve damage that limits me from having shoe laces on the top of my foot; so I wear Chukka's. I've never thrown this much money at a pair of Chukka before, but they are worth every penny.

Built to last!! Leather was more supple than I expected, minimal break-in required for a boot.

These are great boots. Very stylish with jeans or chinos, not the most comfortable boots at first, but once they are broken in, they fit like a glove. I would absolutely recommend these.

Leather and craftsmanship are easily as good as Allen Edmonds and Alden shoes. They run a half size large and take a couple of days to break in, but fit perfectly afterwards. Other companies make similar boots, but the classic American style and craftsmanship of the Red Wings are outstanding. Highly recommended!

Gorgeous, sturdy boots I'll probably be buried in! They take a fair amount of breaking in.

I ordered and received 2 pairs of these overall great boots, but one shoe feels like it isnt properly centered. It feels like my left ankle is being turned in a bit. I'll just get it repaired, which is one of the reasons I bought these boots in the first place: you can get them repaired

When these arrived I couldn't believe the way they were built. The smell alone will take you back years. When I first put them on, I thought I would end up sending them back. They were very stiff, almost like walking on boards. The top hurt my foot near the laces. I wore them in the house after work for a week. Now after about 30 days, they are among the most comfortable shoes I have. I'll probably check out some of the other Red Wing Heritage boots soon.

I am loving these new Chukkas! I was on the hunt for black shoes and I was loving my brown Red Wing Heritage Beckman Boots so much, that I jumped on these black Chukkas. So far, so good. They fit very much like the boots, just shorter, they take a few weeks to break in, but they are not painful. I am already getting compliments on the look.

I wanted to love these shoes, but the top piece of leather, the part immediately under the stitching, has begun separating after only half a dozen wearings. I wanted to keep them for years like many other people spoke of in their reviews, I definitely wanted to support a company still making some shoes in the USA. However, at this price they need to be bullet proof and coming unglued after only wearing them a few times doesn't meet that standard. I will unfortunately be returning them.

I purchased the Beckman Chukka for use as a business casual. I was not dissapointed. Yes, it is an expensive in comparsion to other opiton, but is well worth the cost. I normally wear either Allen Edmonds or Alden for dress and this shoe is of the same quality. I also wear the Red Wing Pecos boot. Keep it up Red Wing.

The Beckman Chukka is a great boot, with high quality leathers, Goodyear welt, leather sole, and mini Vibram lug oversole. I bought the brown, and later the black ones. Good looking shoe, sturdily made, highly recommended.

I have worn these shoes for less than a month and the rubber sole is detaching from both heels. I am very disappointed in the bonding job of the sole. This is very poor workmanship coming from what I thought was a trusted shoe maker. The look and feel of the shoe is excellent, but I do not recommend these shoes. I will probably take them to be repaired rather than endure the return process.

An unusual combination, this dressy workboot would work, but not for that money. The lining is unfinished at the top, where it shows, the eyelets are just grommets, and it doesn't show the quality the price demands. A unique and solid shoe for an architect perhaps, but a very successful one. Nice try, Red Wing!
