  • "We believe most consumers think "Made in USA" means that real manufacturing jobs were provided to U.S. workers in order to make that product. The shoes produced in our U.S. factories are made by U.S. workers using both U.S. and imported materials. Where the level of domestic value is at least 70%, we have labeled the shoe "Made in USA." Where it falls below that level, we have qualified it as containing both domestic and imported materials. This determination is based in part on a survey of consumers conducted by the FTC." --New Balance Inc.

I bought these based on the orthotics description, although I\'ve never really had a problem inserting orthotics into my shoes. This shoe was unusually noisy. All shoes make noise when they are new but this was really loud. So, for that reason, I returned to another NB shoe. I\'m glad Zappos makes it easy to replace. Probably not truly defective but truly annoying.

Best price I could find on these particular shoes. The were just as advertised and a very good running shoe for lower arches.

These babies are sweet; the most comfy thing I have put on my feet, until my chinchilla socks get here.

Additional Brand Information

New Balance began as a Boston-based arch support company in the early 1900s, developed into a specialized manufacturer of shoes in the 1970s, and has grown to become a leading global athletic products company. Today New Balance is a family of brands including New Balance, Dunham, PF Flyers, Aravon, Warrior and Brine.

Since the days of selling arch supports to police officers and waiters, New Balance has been a brand concerned with meeting the needs of the everyday athlete. In pursuing this goal, they developed an "Endorsed By No One" philosophy, which holds that a superior product will sell itself better than any superstar athlete ever could. Part of producing New Balance shoes and athletic clothing is manufacturing it to fit all widths and sizes, because a better fit produces better performance.

To ensure the best fitting, best performing shoes and clothes, New Balance focuses on improving their technology and production methods. A big part of that is maintaining five manufacturing facilities here in the United States where they continue to produce New Balance shoes and apparel that meet the standards they've employed for 100 years. They have also remained committed to a core set of values that include integrity, teamwork and total customer satisfaction.

Immensely comfortable. I am used to wearing a 2E New Balance running shoe for the last 2-3 years, and I chose this type with its flat bottom, and it's immensely comfortable. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.

My wife ordered these New Balance walking/running shoes for me because the local store that sells my size wants $150.00 for New Balance or any shoes that fit my feet (size 15B). I have long narrow feet and other shoes I have bought in my size were always too wide and my foot didn't feel supported; it just slid from side to side in those shoes. When my wife discovered Zappos had my size and the price was so reasonable with "Free Shipping", she ordered them. Not only was the shipping free, but Zappos sent them faster for free also. I love these shoes, they look great and feel great. I will be shopping for shoes at Zappos from now on when I need new shoes. Thanks Zappos.

I have been running since 1976 and this shoe is one of the very best I have ever worn. If you are 200 pounds or more and high mileage you cannot go wrong. I'm an old Nike and Brooks guy but no longer!

I am becoming a real believer in New Balance and these shoes are no exception. I love these shoes, VERY comfortable and I have already gotten many compliments. The sizes seem to run maybe about a half size larger than expected but great shoes overall.

I ordered my 1st pair a few weeks ago and they were so comfortable that I ordered a 2nd pair right away. If you have wide feet, you won't find better than this model.

Shoe Size: Felt true to size Shoe Arch: Excellent arch support Shoe Width: Felt wider than marked
The shoe appears to be very well designed and constructed with excellent heel, arch and ankle fit and comfort. For a B width however, the toe box width and volume is overly generous in size and requires two pair of athletic socks to fill out the space.

587 American and Synthetic - I love the 587 and have been wearing them for several years. They have great control of foot roll and are designed for the "Clydesdale" runner. It is one of the only shoes for me with my height of 6'6" and being over 300 lbs. I also love the fact that they are made in the USA and are leather free. There are other options from NB, but they cost more so in the ratio of cost vs. usability, this one is tops!

Great Walking Shoes - I have been using this shoe for years. They are one of a very few running/walking shoes that come in a very wide size (4E). They fit great and last for hundreds of miles.

Shoe Size: Felt a full size larger than marked Shoe Arch: Moderate arch support Shoe Width: Felt wider than marked
Much larger than expected - In Brooks I wear a 9.5 2e. I tried ordering 9 2e based on reviews stating these run large. The shoe was much wider than the 9.5 Brooks may have to try these in 8.5 2e. I wear orthodics so I need a removable insert and the extra width. The distance between the two sides on the laces was also very narrow so there is not a lot of room to tighten.

Bunion Maker - This would be my most comfortable running shoe except for one thing. Somewhere a while back the engineers at New Balance decided to make a shoe with the footbed slanted inward at the large toe. I feel like I would get bunions if I wore them constantly. I am 78 years old and wear runners for comfort, not running. I rotate 7 pair of shoes daily to minimize the bad-fit aspects of each brand. My old 475s fit like a glove in size 14; now I must order size 15 in New Balance, just like so many other foreign made shoes.

Great Shoes. These shoes are really excellent for heavier runners or for those that need stability. I have purchased twenty or more pairs over the years and have never been disappointed with the quality. I do recommend getting cushioned inserts. The combination is unbeatable.

Light weight overpronator - I'm a light-weight, over-pronating jogger who thought I'd stray from my Asics loyalty and try these- bad idea. The material feels cheap (but, they are leather-free). The size is accurate (ordered .5 size down) yet the shoe lacks all around support... I feel as though I'm jogging in platform boots!
