- "We believe most consumers think "Made in USA" means that real manufacturing jobs were provided to U.S. workers in order to make that product. The shoes produced in our U.S. factories are made by U.S. workers using both U.S. and imported materials. Where the level of domestic value is at least 70%, we have labeled the shoe "Made in USA." Where it falls below that level, we have qualified it as containing both domestic and imported materials. This determination is based in part on a survey of consumers conducted by the FTC." --New Balance Inc.

Since the days of selling arch supports to police officers and waiters, New Balance has been a brand concerned with meeting the needs of the everyday athlete. In pursuing this goal, they developed an "Endorsed By No One" philosophy, which holds that a superior product will sell itself better than any superstar athlete ever could. Part of producing New Balance shoes and athletic clothing is manufacturing it to fit all widths and sizes, because a better fit produces better performance.
To ensure the best fitting, best performing shoes and clothes, New Balance focuses on improving their technology and production methods. A big part of that is maintaining five manufacturing facilities here in the United States where they continue to produce New Balance shoes and apparel that meet the standards they've employed for 100 years. They have also remained committed to a core set of values that include integrity, teamwork and total customer satisfaction.

I was training for the Detroit half marathon and the race was three weeks away. I went down to the running store I always buy my from.Because of my flat feet, I have always run in New Balance shoes. The store ordered them. Over a week later I stopped by the store to check on my order and was told they were back-ordered! I called about every running store that carried New Balance shoes in the Detroit area. I got the same answer. Back-ordered until November 2011. I went onto the internet and looked for my shoes at four different sites. Still I had no luck. Then I went to Zappos site and entered the make & size I needed and there they were. I called Zappos' 800 number and got a very kind lady. I explained my problem and she went and shipped my shoes, next day service, at no extra charge. She was very polite and understanding and I thank her for that!Read more » « Show less November 7, 2011 by Michael H

I wore my NB Men's 6.5 4E M587 running shoes for something over a year. I have worn NB running shoes since January, 1969 when they used Ripple soles which lasted only a few months in my then mile a day routine. These shoes are not up to NB standards though I was glad to get them due to my rare size requirements. They were hard, inflexible, and broke down in a novel way for me. I finally figured out that the reason my orthotic was pressing on my arch was because the foot bed had caved in under my heel into what appeared to be a hollow space. I ordered a second pair but will return them since I have found others. I still like New Balance and Zappos but hope I don't have to use this M587 again.Read more » « Show less July 14, 2010 by Mary L

Excellent shoe. My husband has ankle issues. It is the only shoe that he runs in for the past 12 years!

I suffer from severe overpronation, am very tall and heavy, and need to wear motion control sneakers on a daily basis to prevent foot and knee pain while walking. The Brooks Beast is the best shoe for my problem, but it's not as stylish as New Balance shoes for everyday wear. The two other New Balance overpronation shoes I've tried (the MW 926 and the MT 580) helped my gait with motion control and were comfortable but were never quite as comfortable as my Brooks Beast shoes. I love this M587 shoe because it's more stylish than the Brooks Beast and just as comfy. It gives excellent support and motion control, but feels softer longer than the other NB motion control shoes I've used. That said, this particular NB shoe does feel wider in the toe box than any other NB shoe I've tried. It doesn't pose any real fit problem, though, but some people accustomed to a tighter fit might not like that. Felt a tad bigger than other Men's 10.5 NB shoes too for some reason.
I'd also recommend: Brooks Beast

I have been satisfied with this shoe for the past two years. As a matter of fact, I had ordered a second pair shortly after receiving the first. They have provided the fit and support I needed for my jogging and walking. I am pleased with Zappos products and service.

I never bought wide shoes before this and I realized I've been missing out my whole life. No longer will I squish my foot into normal sized shoes. These shoes also happened to be made out of natural and man made material which makes them vegan. They are also made in the USA so they are pretty much the perfect shoe.
