I bought my first pair of Merrell Wilderness Canyons about 18 years ago. I wear them ALL the time and absolutely love them. Over the past year I've realized I needed to replace them because they were finally falling apart. After looking for a suitable replacement I was thrilled to find that Merrell has started making them again. I bought them immediately and look forward to another 15+ years of wearing them.

This is an excellent piece of footwear! Very, very comfy. I have severe rheumatoid arthritis and my feet and ankles are quite messed up, so shoes are super-important. These boots have a wide base and generous toe box. That allows me to use DR Scholls air pillows (in addition to the Merrell insoles) and still have room for my mid-weight wool, hiking socks. And my toes are not crowded. I stood in a puddle with the water reaching the fist rung of shoe laces and no leaking at all. The shoes are incredibly light yet tough. They withstood 2 hiking trips thus far in heavy brush. Other than a few expected scrapes the leather is perfect. Of course, Zappos rocks with fast ship and reliable return policy.

Great hiking boots overall, very comfortable with solid traction. The only drawback is that in wet damp conditions your toes would feel the elements no matter what type of socks you are wearing.

The shoes are light but sturdy. I can walk all day in the shoes and my feet are dry and comfortable. If you are walking or hiking these are the shoes to buy. I will be glad to buy another pair.

My boots just arrived today. Fast shipping over a holiday weekend. Can't wright a comprehensive review just yet, but here are some initial comments right out of the box. The bad: for the price, I would have expected flawless construction. The stitching of the shoe to the sole is messed in different ways on each boot. The good: Nice fit and comfortable. I have fairly narrow feet. Trying to decide if I want to go through the hassle of a return.

Awesome. Most comfortable boot I have ever owned and so light. I own a landscape company and can wear them in the office, to meetings and to estimates. They look nice and have great construction.

There is some confusion about this boot due to Merrell's naming strategy. This not the original wilderness. It is better! The original boot was too heavy, too stiff, and too mired in customer expectations of what a classic hiker should be. The new boot is a thoughtful update. It is still super stable, extremely rugged, and beautifully styled out of top quality materials. It is also lighter and more comfortable. It is a 21st century boot. It is all-day comfortable, even when carrying a load, and confidence inspiring on loose surfaces. It is often my first choice, even when conditions don't demand a full boot, beating my former favorite Asics trail runners.
