This is my dream approach/scrambling shoe. It is very light. Made me feel as nimble as a mountain goat. Still, it appears to be well made and supportive enough where you need it. La Sportiva knows how to provide the right amount of support - not squishy, just firm support. For greenies, you should know that they can also be resoled. Alas, my only problem is that they do not make a 47 1/2 - the 47 is just too small. It makes me want to cry, because this is the shoe I have been looking for.

I'd also recommend: Scarpa, Five Ten, Treksta

So I've been reviewing quite a few hiking shoes here and stumbled upon the La Sportiva Ganda Guide. I was skeptical as there are no reviews shown yet, but I took the leap. They arrived faster than normal (Zappos rocks!) and they feel great. I wear a 10.5 street shoe so I bought a pair of the 43's. They fit perfect, but my right small toe seems to be a bit bothered, so I'm going to try the 44's. In either case, I'll be using one of the sizes as I like them that much. In fact, being a loyal Salomon user, I also tried a new pair to compare with, but I far prefer the La Sportiva. The soles on the La Sportiva are much better and firmer, offer better traction and overall, the fit is better, other than my small toe issue that I think will resolve itself. While I haven't hiked with these just yet, they are firm for rocks and rough terrain, but are lightweight and comfortable to walk in. I'm glad I picked these up and I think my Salomon's will be sitting idle for a while. These feel like real hiking shoes and my Salomon's feel sort of squishy even though I've had good performance with them when hiking the Grand Canyon. Just wanted others to read some feedback. I think these are well worth a try. By the way, I compared these to two Salomon shoes. The Salomon: XA Pro 3D Mid GTX Ultra and a low cut version - not the exact same model. These fit far tighter so if you like loose fitting shoes, these will feel more like real hiking shoes, but that's a good thing, in my opinion. Happy hiking. Zappos rocks!

At 55 I do look for good arch support and unfortunately this shoe has minimal. Will probably replace w/ different insole. I wear a solid D and this feels tight but will help w/ approach scramble. Shoelaces are too short and unable to lace upper eyelet, which is ridiculously sewn too small. Plan on keeping them they're extremely lightweight and overall well made just need longer laces.

This is almost my dream shoe. It provides great traction, is light and feels nimble. Width is fine for me. I really like the leather upper; much better than any GoreTex liner when using in hot weather. I agree the laces should be longer. And the ridiculous itty-bitty loop for laces at the top? You cannot be serious! Try lacing this up to the top in the dark in some remote canyon in Utah! La Sportiva: put in a lug at the top -- at this price, cost cannot be the issue.

I'd also recommend: scarpa, 5.10
