Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Always a classic. Just broke the boots out to break in for bike season. I have very thick calves for a shorter gal (5'3"), and these boots, while tight, totally fit. Totally worth the money. My mom and I have a couple pairs, and she's had hers for 8-9 years and they still look like new. The leather will stretch over time, so don't worry about the slight discomfort and tightness! It is worth it! Frye wearer for life, they'll have to bury me in these things.

I am 5'3" and have a curvy/athletic shape. I normally wear an 8½ and have wide feet and a high instep. I ordered these boots in an 8½ and they were difficult to get into/out of, and were a little too snug at first, but now that a month's worth of wear and tear has taken place, they fit wonderfully! Even though I am short, they look great on me)! They are definitely worth the price!

The first thing you need to realize about these boots is that they are real leather and need to be broken-in. They are more like cowboy boots than dress boots you can buy and wear home. I wore them for a couple of hours a day for about a week and now they fit perfectly. I ordered these boots in the Dark Brown Old Town color and the leather is perfect. It already looks broken-in and because the leather is not one uniform color, it goes with brown or black. I wear an 8.5-9 and ordered the 8.5 because the leather does stretch a little as the boots get broken-in. Also, I was worried about the tall boot because I do not have skinny calves, but there is plenty of room in the top of the boot as well.

I was so excited when I received my boots today. I am disappointed that I normally wear a 9½ and a lot of people said down size and get a 9. I wish I would have stuck with my original size. They were too tight in the toes. I am sad because they are so cool looking I am 52 years old I think they would look good on any age. I cannot wait to get my bigger size. Thanks, Zappos.

These boots are wonderful. I have a pair of 11 in another color and ordered a 10 because they stretched out so much. After a week of wearing them they are perfect! Can't wait to order another color.
