I use these as my every day shoes actually. It took me a few days or may couple weeks to get used to them but they are a great shoe for foot health. My feet and legs feel stronger from the zero drop and it's a great weight and design too. Great shoe, running shoe. I feel more agile, too. I've also traveled on flights with these and my feet stay cool and comfortable.

First pair of 4's and the redesign is not good. The unpadded tongue is not comfortable and shifts on the foot. I had been getting ~4 months, these only lasted 2.5 and gave me blisters!

These shoes are my favorite, and fit my feet like a glove. I have two bunions (one larger than the other), and the Original Footshape, combined with comfortable/flexible mesh actually works.

The size and fit were good. I have been wearing Altra shoes for years . All the other styles have a padded tongue except
these Escalantes- the tongue is a flimsy piece of material and is not comfortable on the top of my foot when the laces are
tied securely.

Love the Escalante shoes! I've been wearing them for years for both HIIT training at the gym and outdoor jogs, and they never disappoint. As soon as I put on my new pair, I felt like I was walking on clouds—the cushioning is just perfect for my workouts. I did notice that the Escalante 4s feel a bit narrower than my previous pair, but that might just be because my old ones had stretched over time. Either way, these remain my go-to shoes, and I’ll definitely keep buying them in the future!

ALTRA definitely uses a chemical in the material of their shoes that has fragrance. It is enough with all the air fresheners we have to breathe in public places to also have them in our clothes. Altra shoes instead of smelling new, smell like air fresheners. That is the reason I had always returned my orders from Altra. Left shoe uncomfortable smaller than right. The Black/Black color is a dark gray not black.

No where near as good as the Escalante 3. I hated the tongue, because there is no padding. Feels terrible.

I have worn the Escalante for years. I recently purchased the new version and had to return them to my local running store. The redesign with the lip at the top for the loop and the change in the solid piece of plastic (?) on either side for the lace to go through hits right on my bunion. It took me forever to find a pair of shoes that did not hurt to run in. On to find something I can run in.

Love the wide toe box. The medial longitudinal arch support is not sufficient for me, so I have to add an insert. Would rate 5 stars with adequate arch support.

The Altra One 2.5 was my favorite shoe ever for marathons and ever since it was discontinued (please bring it back someday!) I have searched in vain for a zero drop, light cushion shoe to wear for marathons and long training runs. I tried previous Escalante versions but they always felt too heavy and clunky. The Escalante 4s are a huge improvement! So much lighter and more comfortable; I actually enjoy training in them! Some other reviews questioned durability but I have put over 350 running miles on my first pair with no problem. I'm still not sure they're quite light enough for me to race a marathon in them (again please bring back the One 2.5!!!) but they are my go-to long run shoe now. Altra, please don't backtrack on the Escalante 4 improvements -- if anything, keep making these shoes lighter and more flexible!

Please please bring back the old model. I cant wear the 4s and my old ones are tiring out. I have been wearing and loving the the Escalante for years. It used to feel great right out of the box. The new version is terrible. The top of the shoe presses down and crunches my foot. The new laces and un-padded tongue irritate my foot.

I absolutely love the escalante and the color choices there were. The fit was perfect although I am normally an 8.5 in traditional running shoe style and sized down to 8. I loved the bright colors of the 3!! Hesitant to purchase a beige color now but seems my options are limited

After years of Altra Escalante fandom, the new Escalante 4 design gives me terrible foot pain. They are unwearable. I didn't bother trying them on within the 30 day trial period and now I can't return them or wear them.

Great shoe! Never disappoints. The new updates are more comfortable than the Escalante 2 and 3 versions. Great for the marathon distance and under. Like they advertise, it's like going back in time to the Escalante 1.5 version (I still have an old pair of 1.5s I use to lift weights in.)

These were supposed to be a similar return to the 2.5 that you killed off. Close, but not really. While the toe box is still wide, the height/space/volume of the front of the shoe feels less that I can't tighten the laces much. You also dropped the ball using such short laces. Standard laced barely has enough length to tie a knot. Heel lock lace you definitely need to skip some holes and they're still not long enough, or buy longer laces. Lastly, not sure where the black photo cane from that is on the site. "Black" is actually dark grey. A fine color, but, I thought I was buying black.

I usually wear the Torin's but I decided to try the Escalante's out and I'm not a fan. They were great at first but now my feet hurt in them and my left shoe lace won't stay tied.

This is my third pair of Escalates. I like it that they have a very wide tow box and a non-intrusive sole. They are getting better and better. Since I sometimes go on the beach, I like it these seem less permeable to sand. I just wish you made them in solid yellow or solid green. What's with the black tongue? Monochrome shoes are more minimalist. Also, why don't you do stretch laces so we don't have to tie bows, but can just slip the shoes on and off.

I have run in the Escalante for years. They were incredibly comfortable! I just got the 4, same size and width. I can barely walk in them, much less run. The placement of the laces by the toe has changed and now cuts into my foot so much i will not be able to wear them at all!!! I wore the Torrin for years till you messed that one up. Now this?? Makes it feel too narrow where the same shoe, earlier version, fit perfectly. I am fast running out of Altra options for a neutral shoe!

Can't put 5 stars. I had to exchange for a smaller size because the 8 was too big for me. I had an older version of the same model so I bought the same size but I was too big this time. And what's the point about reducing the length of the laces??? I had to buy another pair because I can't tie it properly. So now they don't match with the shoes.

Shoes are comfortable. I use them for daily wear or walking. Be prepared though. The laces are short. I had to buy longer laces. I also sized down half a size from what I normally wear.

My injury occurred from pushing an overloaded wheelbarrow full of rocks. I had PT on my plantar fasciitis and suffered for over a year. I ended up bare foot for 6 months including most of my yard work, which can be dangerous. I went through several brands of sneakers and finally found a video about Plantar fasciitis, wide feet and the Escalante 4. I now own 3 pair of these, one for yard work, one for errands, one for the house. I definitely would recommend this shoe to everyone.

If I was being more particular I'd probably give these 2 or 3 instead of 4. I bought these for the wide toe box and mesh upper. I have a narrow foot and they fit well below the toe box to the heel - no slipping. They have 'cured' the sore spots on the outside of my big toes @ the toenail and stopped the pain at the end of my second toe which is longer than the big toe. They have enough of a high profile that my arch inserts have room. My main complaint is the embarrasing squeak when walking. I've been wearing them for two weeks and it continues. Does Altra have recommendations on how to stop this? The laces are too short and slippery - constantly having to relace them before I trip on them. This seems an easy enough fix for Altra. The tongue slips to the side and moves toward the front and makes a wrinkle that needs to be adjusted throughout the day whether I tie them tight or leave them comfortable. Others mention the color is off - that doesn't concern me since I wear them with black, gray, or navy pants - not a big deal. I'm wondering how long until my toenails break through the mesh - but I need the mesh for comfort. As an ex-runner, they don't seem to have enough cushion/ support, I wouldn't use them for short or long distance. Maybe they are OK as sprint trainers. At this point I will wait to see how long they take for the sole to start breaking down and the mesh to get holes - are they worth the price we pay?

My only concern is that there is little or no padding in the tongue which caused deep ridges on the top of my foot. Since this only came to light after wearing several hours I guess I’ll be keeping them. If that would be a deal breaker, I’d advise giving them a pass.
