These are dark grey not black.

The toe box is not nearly wide enough. Also - something about these causes me great pain in the arch of my foot which I've NEVER experienced with any other shoe - I have high arches if it matters.

I really love these. Lower profile than the torin but still very comfortable. Plenty of toe room without feeling too big, and not too wide on the heel. My o my complaint is durability. Within about 60 miles the tread looks quite worn, and before I even hit 100 there are worn spots on the inner lining near the heel. Had a similar issue with the Torin a couple years ago. They just wear out fast. I walk about 30 miles a week so I go through a pair pretty quickly. I'd expect to get 250-300 miles in a shoe (I walk mostly on pavement - all year round). On these I can make them last that long but want new ones around 150 miles. Granted they don't get much worse after about 100 miles. Overall I still really like them well enough to get them when I can find them on sale

These sneakers are not a disappointment. They are comfortable for cardio as well as weight training. The wider toe area is great. I would definitely recommend these shoes for any kind of workout.

I wear these shoes every day, at work and for travel. It looks/feels good, and goes with a casual dress or pants. Lots of nice (and not weird) colors to choose from (I have 8 pairs).

I have an earlier version of this shoe that I love and have worn for a few years to the point that it's falling apart. This shoe doesn't look like the images, which are misleading. Their black is a very off black. Why change the appearance of the shoe when the way it looked before was better in every way from color, logos, and shoe laces structure.

My feet hate me, but they love the wide toe, the zero drop, the flexibility of the material, and just the right amount of cushion in the sole. I'd just love some more trendy color options!

Walking and at work (12 hours a day). Very comfortable but the shoelaces are cheap and won't last. Highly recommend a better quality lace for expensive shoes.

I love the shoe feel and still use them but a chunk of the sole in the exact same spot came out on both shoes. If it wasn't both shoes I'd say it was probably me but this also happened after having maybe 15-20 miles on them. The laces could stand to be slightly longer as well. The color also says black but they are really a navy blue in person.

Tongue of shoe not properly stitched with gaping hole before wear. This is my 2nd pair of Escalantes (in 6 month) that have fallen apart immediately. Very disappointed. This used to be a great shoe.

This have a great wide toe box and zero lift, which i love. The opportunity: I got blisters on ankles for first 2-3 weeks then after three months (used to walking) the ankle support wore through fabric and foam. Never had this happen in my life with a shoe.

This is the best version of Escalante 4. Please don't ever change it!

These are the best tennis shoes that I have ever owned!

I am a race walker who has happily worn every version of the Escalate until the 3's and 4's. The 2.5's are my favs. The heel counter on the 4's is way too stiff, causing me, for the first time, to have Achilles issues.

Like many others have stated, the outsoles on these shoes wear out far too quickly. Altra needs to use more durable materials, or even the most loyal customers will shop elsewhere.

Shoes feel great! Light weight but supportive, comfortable enough for my entire 12hr shift. Feels similar to Nike Free runs. Wide toe box was initially a little funny looking but very cute style shoe.

These Escalante 4s fit like a dream. Over 3 months they have molded perfectly to my feet and my feet have adapted very well to their shape. There are no parts that are loose or cafe. I have worn them while traveling abroad on unexpectedly rough stonework and dusty dirt trails (archeological sites that are well-preserved can have unexpected crumbling parts!) These shoes have kept my feet very comfortable while traveling and at the gym too! They are starting to wear down a bit even though it's only been 3 months. Granted I've worn them everywhere but my Nikes have lasted longer in the past. If Altra can improve the quality of the material so it's more on-par with mainstream sneakers, these shoes would outshine them all.

Love having a shoe that I can do a fast paced, weight training, agility workout and then go for a run and these shoes do well at both!! Thanks Altra for continuing to offer a low profile shoe... and one that performs so well. I will definitely buy this shoe again.
