I am absolutely over Altra. I have been loyal for years and have spent at least $2,000. I'm sick of being disappointed. The quality is terrible. I returned these immediately. Also, black is not black!

I bought this because of the lightweight, minimal nature. Thought itd be a good extra pair of shoes for travel. I bought the black on black because I liked the sleek look of the shoe. It has a snug fit and let's in a lot of airflow with the mesh fabric. The weirdest thing I didn't like with this show are the shoelaces. They're very short and I could barely tie them. I replaced them immediately and I'm much happier.

Fell in love with the E1.5 in 2019 & was overjoyed last spring at new 4s release. E3's were too cushioned & I almost turned my back on Altras; E4s brought me back & I will buy a 2nd pair of the E4s soon.

Size and width were great, but the toe protector was off - didn’t protect my big toe. Wore inside on carpet, and the Escalante 4 hurt the sides and bottoms of my feet after 30 minutes. I had 3 pairs of 2018 Escalantes…disappointing that shoe has changed so much. I really liked this style.

Not like the OG! There is a lack of support, sole isn't as comfortable. My feet hurt when used for running, ok for the gym though. Mine have 2 different size laces one too short. Quality has slipped.

The last post I discussed the poor construction of the shoe sole. The other pair I just purchased is also falling apart. This is ridiculous, over $300 down the drain.

My first Altra purchase was the Escslante 3 and I loved them. The 4 does not fit as well or feel as comfortable. The tongue was padded on the 3 which was much better. I sent the model 4 back and will look elsewhere for shoes unless Altra stops cheapening their products.

I would have given these the highest rating possible if it weren't for the laces coming undone ALL THE TIME. I had to retie them 3-4 times during a 20-minute walk. Otherwise, I live the fit, the style, the comfort, but they need better laces.

Alta needs to go back to the original escalante no arch support wide toe box zero drop decent cushion. These have arch support that hurts not enough cushion and terrible last decent escalante was the 2.5

I have an old pair of Escalante 3 shoes that I love. I bought the Escalante 4 shoes because I needed a pair of all-black shoes (these are the black-on-black version). I don't like these as much as my old ones. They are still good shoes, but the upper material is not as soft and they have a "harder" feel in the soles and fit a little tighter. I much prefer the older design.

The size was fine but there was no arch support so the shoes were not comfortable.

The size was fine but the shape of the shoe & lack of arch support did not work with my feet. Unfortunately, I will be returning them.

As a physical therapist and long distance runner in the past, I've been a huge advocate for Altras due to the wide toe box and zero drop aspects. I ordered 2 pairs of the Escalante 4 and they are not at all like the Escalante 3. The toe box is not their original foot shape like the claim and narrower than the past model even. The soles are already showing signs of wear after 2 months of light use and hurt after running 45 min. The laces are by far the worst I have ever had on any shoe. They are too short and do not stay tied even with double knots. I'm so sad because I love my past Altras and have been such an Altra fan the last few years; But with the declining quality and them trying to appeal to the mainstream population and making their shoes more narrow, it may be time to go. These shoes are not cheap so I hope they listen to the other reviews on here like mine and make some changes or they are going to start losing some loyal customers. I have had three pairs of Escalantes and by far these are the worst. The arch support is gone, the tongue is no longer padded, the toe box is not as wide, the shoestrings can barely be tied. It's back to the drawing board to find a comfortable pair of walking shoes. I'm so disappointed in Altra for changing up their shoes so drastically.

Design and quality issues.
The unpadded tongue is not comfortable.
The toe box is much narrower than the 3 version. Please stop narrowing the toe box on your models!
After a week of light walking on the treadmill, the soles showed signs of wear. Sorry, this is unacceptable for such low quality.
Please listen to your customers or you will be left without them.

I've been a consumer of the escalates for 5 years / over 10 pairs between escalante and the racers and they are the only shoe that works for me. However, the last 3 pairs I have purchased have had sole that breakdown after 3 months. I only run 7 miles a week. These shoes are not cheap and I have an expectation that the sole doesn't breakdown. I don't know if it is a new manufacturer or new adhesive. Please correct bc I love this shoe.

I run half marathons and I wanted to try shoes with zero drop and a wider toe box - while still being meant for running. These shoes fit the bill!
The shoes themselves look nice and durable. The laces are incredibly short - which I knew after reading reviews but figured, I could switch the laces if needed.
The toe box is not as wide as I had hoped but it is definitely wider than any other running shoe I've had.
These shoes are taking me a while to break in and get used to. My feet usually hurt after a long run, but I know it's because my feet are so used to extra padded running shoes - so I need to build up that strength in my feet again.
I think I will end up liking these more after my feet adjust.
They fit true to size: I'm a true size 7 and that's what I purchased and they fit great!

So far so good! I'm easing into them after experiencing several foot problems with traditional foot wear. They are making my feet stronger. Please make in bone or off white!

When I first put these on, I was really excited. They felt great. I do have to put my own inserts in all shoes because there's never enough arch support. I love the heal because it has a nice smooth fabric that did not irritate my skin. I've recently tried three different styles of altras. They all have a firm ridge along the outside of foot to heel that pronates my foot. I never had this problem with my old ultras. But the main thing is the base of the shoelaces rubs right on my bunion and hurts my first toe, making it unwearable.

I became an Altra convert 8 years ago, but am disheartened. I bought these last year but had an injury where I couldn't run until now. The toe box is much narrower than the "3" and causes toe pain.

Go to shoe. Have bunion and achy soles with other shoes. Am disappointed with most recent purchase, footbed not as soft, and miss the padded tongue. Find myself going back to last years Escalante.

I LOVE THE ORIGINAL ALTRA TOEBOX.
I wanted to love the Torin, but it has a slightly narrower toebox. It turned out that on long runs or days on my feet that I'd eventually get some chafing with the Torin. So far, about 115 miles in on the Escalante, and I've had no issues!
