Ultrarunner. Like other reviewers noted, Hoka botched the tongue on this otherwise fantastic shoe. One star because I had to return them after the first run. If you're a runner that typically needs the extra lacing holes, I strongly urge you away from this shoe-- the tongue is so short on this updated model that the laces are off of it, onto your socks, especially with those critical few extra millimeters that using the additional lacing holes takes. Completely unnecessary mistake, and Hoka should strongly consider an intermediate update to correct for this before the SG7, which I'm assuming is years out. Bummer, because they very nicely corrected many of the faults of the SG5, which wasn't a great update, IMO.

Looks like a 2 year old designed the shoe. Increasing bad colors and design. I hated the last version with the heel and less support. Restart from the Speedgoat 4.
I have 1 pair of Speedgoat 4 that I have been saving because I new they would mess it up again.
Not happy, I am going to have to change my dogs name. What sounds similar to HOKA?

Purely a mistake, I ordered the wide version and I am so glad that I did. I trail run about 45-55 miles per week, and that's on fairly rough terrain, so I know a good trail runner and I think this version is pretty darn good! I'd still call my favorite SG the 4, and the 5's were good too, but the 6 is better than the 5 in my opinion. It is a little less cushioned, but still offers plenty of protection. The outsole is Vibram with good traction on most surfaces. It's a little slick on wet rock.
All in all it's a great shoe! The color is the least of my concerns, but it is nice to see they've released some new colors. I can definitely recommend these!

Any reviews giving one star for the first released color way (orange/purple/yellow) should be deleted. The color of the shoe makes no difference on how it performs, fits, feels, etc. If you don't like the color don't buy it, but don't give it one star because you don't like the first color released.
Onto the actual shoe review. The traction is great and the slight padding added to the tongue is a nice addition. The shoe is light and the upper is also more breathable and helpful when it's hot. With that said it's narrower and isn't as plush cushion wise as the 5's. I felt like the 5's absorbed the impact from small rocks and roots, but you feel them in the 6's. It feels like a mix between the Speedgoat 5's and Tecton X2's. Great traction and breathable, but a narrower fit and firmer. I personally prefer the 5's.

I've bought three pairs and I'm totally satisfied with each pair. I can never go back to another brand. I'm totally sold.

The tongue of the shoe was stitched wrong causing unusual wear and tear to both the shoe and my foot.

Speedgoats have been my go to trail shoe since SG2. Not sure yet on the SG6. Perhaps they will require a bit more of a break in period.

People writing reviews about the color and haven't even tried them onugh! These things are AMAZING! Toe box feels a little wider, great arch support for someone with a high arch. Heels feel super locked in. Can't wait for more colors, I need them all

After disposing of my Speedgoat 4's in April, I was anxiously awaiting the release of the 6's. While I was hoping to do a test run and then throw them on for a trail 1/2, I had to cool my jets. After a few more runs, they're right back to the comfort and support I expect from a Hoka Speedgoat.

Firstly, everyone in the reviews giving a 1 star based on a color preference is ridiculous and in no way demonstrates the quality or a true review of the shoe. The next biggest complaint I am seeing is the stiffness of the midsole out of the box-- yes, it is stiffer than past speedgoats but that is a good thing! These are the same folks who are then complaining that the midsole dies after 150 miles-- if you want a midsole that lasts, it requires a break-in period, simple as that. I will agree that for the first 50 miles I didn't feel the midsole was really settled in yet but after that 50 mile mark for me they feel solid. I have about 110 miles in the shoe now and have taken it up a lot of peaks here in SW Colorado that are technical with a lot of scree fields and on and off trail travel. In my opinion, these are the most technical trail ready speedgoat yet and I think the midsole has a lot to do with that advancement. It is really protective and feels more stable under foot in very uneven, rocky terrain.
I will be buying another pair for sure once these are cooked as they are proving to be a great daily grinder that I can count on for a majority of my outings. I sprinkle in a few other shoes as well into the rotation but the speedgoat 6 will continue to be there for sure.

I had high hopes for the update, but after a couple runs on rocky trails I haven't been able to get a good fit. The tongue is too short and quite uncomfortable with the upper eyelets laced. Additionally, my forefoot is sliding around even with the midfoot laced tight. Overall, a disappointing update.

Runs SmallRuns Large
Runs NarrowRuns Wide
Poor SupportGreat Support
Runs small, I had to go up 1/2 size from my regular size. The width seems about right, and the toe box is wider than on the Challenger, which I found to be a bit narrow.
I got these for hiking and found them to be great for that. The vibram outsole is great, very grippy, and the lugs are deep enough to dig in when needed. There's a good amount of cushioning, but it's not so soft that it feels unstable. There's little to no padding in the tongue, so you may want to get some tongue pads to make it more comfortable if you need to have the laces really tight.

Whoever chose this colorway as the lead for Hoka's flagship trail product, has no idea what they're doing and should be fired immediately. They definitely cost the company millions because these are flopping solely because of the looks.

Did the CEO's 6 yr old daughter design the Colorway? C'mon HOKA, when you release a new model you cannot do it in 1 color way designed for children. Sticking with my SG5 until new colorways released.

The upper of the 6 is better than the 5. The tongue is still too short and not padded enough. The midsole seems firmer than the five. I returned the Speedgoat 6 and I am now wearing the Mafate Speed 4. The best version of the Speedgoat were the 2 and 3.

The Speedgoat 6 has a much narrower base which makes the toe box a tighter fit and removes the under support of front of your foot. The material is lightweight and seems to avoid slip when coming down mountains but there is still a lot of vulnerability with this shoe. I miss the Speedgoat 4. That sneaker was designed perfectly in my opinion and wish they continued production for sale. The Beet Root color is also very loud and wish HOKA released other options. Maybe Speedgoat 7 will be a hit or hopefully they produce more Speedgoat 4 models.

All these people giving one stars because of color is ridiculous.. I've been running in Evo speedgoats.. speed goats 3 and 5 for years ... And this 6 is solid... Stiffer then what we've been used to but once you break them in ( 5-10 miles) they're solid! Go a half size up.. it helps!
And I personally don't mind the color and can't wait to keep buying more pairs of these when a ton of new colors come out...

The best thing about this shoe is the Vibram outsole, you'll get great traction on just about any surface. The upper feels great and seems to have quality construction. Love the color, even though many reviewers seem to dislike it. The midsole is more on the firm side but feels very stable underfoot. My feet were a little sore after a few hours on the trail, but they would be perfect for those shorter runs.

I know running shoes are supposed to be ugly, but this is like a new level I haven't seen before. Do they have any kind of focus groups for this stuff? There is no way on earth they showed this to a room full of people and they didn't immediately think of throw up

I wear a women's 9 wide and have a difficult time finding shoes that fit my wide toe box and narrow heel.
I ordered a men's 8 wide.
These fit in the toes but my heal slipped so it is a no go for this one.

Hey design team at Hoka, the colorway on this shoe is objectively hideous. You can do better. Try a little bit before you all tell each other, 'good job' and sign off for the day. A group of blindfolded children with fingerpaints could design a better looking shoe.

I started with version three, so far version 6 is my favorite. They are faster than their predecessors and more precise, so I feel much more confident during steep, technical runs than in fours or fives.
p.s.
this color looks great in real life.

A little stiffer than the typical HOKA but super nimble for the trail. Fit is great and traction is spot on. I took them on my first trial run/hike and they came back stained like I washed them off in the wind and the yellow and orange have staining from one run. HOKA needs to hurry up and get a new color option
