Great coat for temperatures in mid 20s to 30s, in Montana. I sized up one size to allow for more room in shoulders, arms . Hickory color is very nice.

The only reason why I can't give 5 stars is because of the zipper. It is so low and so hard to start, it often takes multiple tries. I am worried that over time it will not last because it doesn't seem like it will stand up to the wear and tear.

Ordered petite size 4. I am 5 feet, 95 lb. Swimmer body. The coat fits well. Sleeve is a little too long (would be wonderful if there is petite size 2). The zipper is double sided, a great feature that allows me to zip up or down.

Fit should be a little more generous (for a duffel coat). Also, there are no inside pockets, and there should be! Fabric, style, and color are excellent.

I initially based the size I chose on the reviews saying the coat runs small- for me it does not. I think it depends not only on your size, but also your shape. I'm 5'4, 133lbs, and went with a 4P ultimately. The sleeves on the 4 were slightly long and the 6 looked way too big on. I chose the Navy color, which is beautiful and really classy looking. The zipper gives me trouble from time to time, but I can deal with it. I like the quality and it feels very warm. Admittedly, it does feel a tad snug when I sit down, but standing and walking (what I'm doing mostly) are fine. I like it!

I liked everything about this good-looking coat, butin order to fit my bust (40") I had to get a large, which meant the shoulders were quite wide. My able tailor couldn't alter them because of the way it's constructed. So, sadly, back it went.

Camel color likes cardboard color. When I opened the box, kind of disappointed about the color, and still try to make myself like it. maybe pair with snow white big scarf. I spent two days to decides the size. the size is good by using L.L.Bean recommendation. just for future buyer who may confused by size. I usually wear size 4 for most brand and purchased size 6 for this coat (I'm 5'3" and 125 lb). thanks for reading and hopefully will help someone.

This is a beautiful coat, but it runs very small. It's a very slim/straight cut with no back slit/vent. I would typically wear an 8 or 10 or a medium in a coat, but I had to go up to a 12 for this style.

I just bought this coat. It looks great (the zipper sticks some), and it's nice and warm. My only complaint I have is that the shoulders are narrow. I bought a size 8 despite being a size 6 so I'd have some room for sweaters underneath. The rest of the coat os nice and roomy except for the tight shoulders. It's not bad enough to return, but still slightly uncomfortable.

Received this coat for Christmas and I love it! A little snug by the shoulders when I'm wearing my heaviest sweater, but over all fits well. I'm 5'2 117lbs and I have a size 6.

Coat is very warm, not bulky. Fits great. Love it. The only problem I have is the double zipper. Cannot always get the coat zippered. The buttons do wonders though.

I had a coat like this in the 70's and dearly missed it when it wore out. So happy LLBean had this twin in stock. Fits beautifully and is warm. Only wish the hood was detachable.

I love my wool duffel coat, but I do still feel the cold air coming in from underneath the hem. I wonder if it's because I may have purchased a size that is too large for me?

I love this coat. It's exactly what I was looking for. It's warm, comfy, looks great. However, it has miniscule pockets. There are only 2 outer pockets and they're deceptively small. I'm worried I'm going to lose my gloves (which I keep in my coat pockets) when taking my car keys (key fob, and 2 keys, no keychain so not bulky) out of my pocket. Maybe one day designers will realize that women also need adequate, usable pockets on their garments.

It actually fits as advertised. Hard to evaluate a winter coat in warm weather.

I gave 4 stars to this beautiful, well made coat because i followed the reviews and guidelines and ordered my size 6 petite. I tried it on quickly and ran it to the tailor to shorten the sleeves, I couldn't wait to wear it. Unfortunately when i picked it up wearing a light pullover sweater the coat was too tight. Needless to say I haven't been able to wear it much because our winters are cold to just wear blouse. As always a great product from L.L.Bean, I am really sorry I couldn't exchange it because of the alteration. So you ladies know what size to order, I am 4'11", 123 lbs and should have sized up to a Petite 8. Normally a petite 6 fits me perfectly, including the sleeves, which on this coat needed shortening. Again, love this coat but won't be able to wear it much.

This jacket is super gorgeous and flattering! I'm a size 8, but I originally bought a size 10 after reading the reviews. It was a bit too bulky even with layers underneath, so I made a return and sized back down to an 8. Fits like a glove, despite being a little snug when paired with a sweater. Can't wait to wear this jacket all the time when it gets cold again. The zipper, on the other hand, is my personal nemesis-- so I'm obligated to give this 4 stars instead of the full 5.

True to size fit for me. The coat is warm with a great hood. The coat is very stylish, able to wear it for casual and more formal outfits and looks great with both. One complaint is the zipper. I returned the first coat because of a faulty zipper. The coat I exchanged it for still has a zipper that's difficult to start and release. Definitely better than the first but for the price it should be in perfect working order.

First of all, the packaging of this coat was surprisingly awesome. It had minimal folding to minimize wrinkling, such that it looked ready to wear right out of the box, and even the buttons were papered to make sure that they did not get damaged during shipping. The lambswool material was thick and heavy and included inside was a soft shell. I loved the hood idea and the coat had it even had great pockets--when do we ever get pockets?! Unfortunately, I had to return it since it was too large, like all over, despite ordering petite sizing.

I really wanted to like this jacket but it was too small so I had to return it. The sleeves were nice and long which I appreciated. I like the rust color a lot and didn't mind the faux leather details contrary to one other review here. The buttons themselves were very nice. Laying the jacket closed on a table: the width was 44" which means smaller inside due to the lining and Thinsulate. I'm sad that it didn't fit and the bigger size is gone. It might help if Beans listed the hip dimensions on the size chart and not just the chest.

Ordered the navy one. The color and fabric was great, not too heavy and soft. However, I found the fit to be not quite right. It was wide in the shoulders but narrow in the body and the sleeves were wide. The overall size was also just too big. The 4 petite was sold out and customer service told me that the only difference between that and misses was the sleeve length & inseam; I purchased it thinking I could just get the sleeve length altered but it wouldn't have made a difference, I was swimming in the coat. Petite women tend to have smaller shoulders, they should adjust for that to make it more proportionate or offer size 2 for those who are on the smaller side.

I am 5'1" and 140 lbs. I ordered the 12 petite and while the hood and shoulders fit well, the body was way to narrow. I ordered the 14 petite, and the body was still tight, but the shoulders were way too wide and the hood, when up, covered my face. Sadly, I had to return both, but the quality of the coat, the finishing touches, etc. were exceptional and I wish I could have kept it. If you are tall and more narrow than me, it would be a great coat for you!

Unfortunately, I had to return this coat. As much as I loved the style, the arms of the 6 were too short, and the torso of the 8 was too big. I am 5'7", 135 lbs, 36 bust, 30 waist. The shoulders/back area seemed oddly tight on the 6, but maybe I just have weird proportions. I agree with the comments that the buttons and toggles should be made of nicer material; I think people would be willing to pay for that if they are already spending what this coat costs. The coat is nice and warm and the zipper is well-constructed although I could see myself getting frustrated with the double zipper. Maybe if there are some changes in the future I will try again.

Had to return because the coat hung crooked, unzipped one side was inches higher than the other, zipped up the shoulders were off, wife sent it back and got another one, she's happy with that one, the only negative was she thinks they run a little small
