The shoe runs about a size smaller, but I was able to fit my foot in and do a quick run where I noticed great support and an extra little spring when moving forward. The design is Sleek, and the shoes are comfortable. I would recommend these to friends and family who have runners in their lives

Having the opportunity to try these shoes in exchange for my honest review was great. These are a great addition to my active life. My feet feel good after a long active day. Definitely worth a try.

Most of my training is 40% road 60% trail. The first thing I noticed is how it felt, like a glove, and I am impressed with the cushioning. It feels like a cross between the Olympus and the earlier versions of the Lone Peak. My first run in them was an 8 miler and it performed well off-road also.

Fit and sizing were great. The shoe started squeaking loudly after about 4 months of wear and very light use.

This shoe is supposed to take you on both trails and roads, and it does, but it feels more like a trail shoe--the lugs are definitely trailworthy but give me pause about how long they'll last on the pavement. They are also a good ounce heavier than my Escalantes and feel clunkier. As a trail shoe, they are decent, but they decided to forgo the gaiter traps, making them of less use on trails where you're likely to get twigs, pebbles and other small items in your shoe. They are a little narrower than standard Altras, which is probably a good thing for the average foot but less helpful for folks like me with wide, flat feet. Finally, a caveat: these shoes have held up pretty well over the 100+ miles I've put on them, but durability can be hit or miss with Altras generally.

In general I did enjoy these shoes very much. I had two pairs. With the first one I didn't had durability issues, but I was running primarily in light terrain (woods), no rocks etc. They lasted ~700-800km (mostly training runs). Given the comfort they provided and upcoming race I bought second pair of exactly the same shoes. Here I was surprised, after doing < 150km (slightly more complex terrain during races with bit of rocks, but nothing really serious I would say) they started showing exactly the same wore issues as the first pair. This was true disapointment. I cannot afford buying shoes every 150km. I would expect they last longer.
I'm really torn appart and I still use Altra shoes (Torin - the best durability so far, Escalante Racer 2 and Olympus), but wanted to flag that expectations are high from Altra and trail shoes are meant for rough terrain and they still should last a bit

A great walking shoe on Varied terrains. I read some of the other reviews about squeak/creaking. I now have had them for three days and 12 miles and they are beginning to squeak! Is there any fix for this?
Great but squeaky shoes!'

They are awesome except the squeaking. It is so obnoxious I can't get past it. I even tried plugging the hole in the sole with epoxy. Didn't work. Fix this and they'll be the perfect shoe.

Fits fantastically for shape, cushion and, responsiveness. Pretty well balanced shoe that is a great "daily runner". Not sure if I received a defective pair, but they squeak incessantly. Truly they are loudest shoes I've ever owned. They remind me of SpongeBob's boots. Customer support gave some lazy answers about adding fresh insoles, or pouring powder into them. Continued wear has made them louder.

I had the Outroad I shoe and thought i had found my forever shoe! Most comfortable i've had due to it's width, low drop and really comfortable cushion. When I saw the Outroad II come out, i thought they could have only improved it, so i went for it. Little did I know, all the things that i enjoyed about the shoe, were changed (for the worse) with the update. I gave them a chance, thinking i may have to break them in - but had no luck. Sorry to say these are going back!

First time- ordered burnt orange and teal color. WOW. Way off. Was BRIGHT colors not the same as photo.
Second time- grey/green. Color was fine but felt a size too small and narrow. Do better Altra

I wear a 12, these were likely a 10 1/2. I couldn't get my foot in them!

I bought the Blue Orange Outroad 2, because it looks Teal and Burnt Orange, which looks awesome in the picture, but it is bright Blue and bright Orange when you get them. I even tried coloring the midsole because I couldn't stand the bright orange. Love the shoes comfort, but when buying online I would appreciate a true representation of what I'm buying when it comes to color.

Long time buyer of altras and sadly the later versions are disappointing. The color of the online version muted down the "orange" when in reality they are teal and blaze orange when I thought I was getting a light blue and gum colored sole. Fit is great out of the box

so far not impressed and my feet are not happy with this shoe so far, very stiff or doesn't break in very well, but I will know more after a 50 mile race,

The Outroad 1 seemed much better. Version 2 seems to have added stiffness and bulk in the forefoot, presumably to add more insulation from rocks/roots on "light trails"? I would love to see a response from Altra on this point. If that's indeed true. If so, this seems unnecessary. For light trails version 1 seemed fine and this change makes it feel like I'm runing in sand or on a treadmill set at a 2% incline. Running in these is like having the parking break on. They do not work for me at all. But a great walking shoe!

I got the Outroad 1s to use as an all-around, everyday walking shoe. I really liked them, but, as many other users noted, they fell apart too easily in certain places. So when the 2s came out, I was excited to give them a try. Unfortunately, they just don't fit me nearly as well. They feel super wide on me, despite being in the "slim" category, and I have a hard time getting my heels to lock down in the 2nd gen. This was never a problem with the 1st gen Outroads.
As a point of comparison, I use the Provision 7s for running and those fit me great. Ironically, those are supposedly a wider fit, but they don't feel as wide on my feet as these Outroad 2s do.
All in all, the Outroad 2s are fine, but I don't know that I'll go back for another round of them.

This is the shoe I love to hate. Like so many others have mentioned, these shoes are shorter than any other Altra in an equivalent size (including other slim fit models). Nonetheless, I run 1000-1200 miles a year (both trail and road) and the Outroad 1 was the shoe I put the most mileage on over the last 8 months.
I run Riveras and Vanishes (both slim foot shape) and have no issues with the length, but the Outroad 1's are the only shoes that have ever caused me to lose a toenail (out of dozens and dozens of running shoes). I was truly hoping the second generation would fix this (especially since there was so much feedback) but the Outroad 2 has the same issue- it's roughly 1/2 inch shorter than a normal size 9. With the 2, I ordered both 9 and 9.5, eventually settling on the 9.5 because I couldn't stand to sacrifice another big toe nail (i can't cut them any shorter). While the 9.5 isn't too short, it is in every other respect, too big and totally nullifies the benefit of the slim foot shape. I have to lace them much tighter than normal in order to keep my foot locked in. This is a major let down because the snug fit was what I really loved about the size 9 with a slim foot shape (and continue to love about the Vanish). What exacerbates the sloppy fit in a 9.5 is that the heel is more squared off on the 2 and offers less lock.
Despite my frustration with the sizing (why is it shorter than the Vanish?!) i'm confident these will continue to be the shoes i run the most. They're incredibly versatile and suite my needs perfectly. My most common routes involve running pavement to get to double track, with frequent deviations onto single track, and the Outroad holds its own on all surfaces. They're quick on pavement, great on dirt and gravel roads and I'm comfortable taking them on all but the most technical or wet single track. One aspect I was glad to see unchanged is the outsole, my gen 1's held up exceedingly well and I wore out the foam in the midsole at about 400 miles with tons of life left on the tread.

I have put 130 miles on these shoes so far and love them except for the fact they don't drain sweat! My feet are soggy wet after an hour of running and squishy in the shoes. I am used to running in the Timp's which do not have this problem.

I've been through three pairs of the original Outroad. Perfect for my mix of road, gravel, grass and light trails. Very flexible with plenty of cushioning. The Outroad 2 feels nothing like the original. Very, very stiff in the forefoot and midfoot, with much stiffer cushioning. Also, the upper is a much thicker material, and there seems to be a more significant/stiffer heel counter in the Outroad 2. All combine to make this a poor fit for my needs. I'll keep trying to chase down new old stock of the original Outroad, rather than buying another pair of Outroad 2.

I like the narrow toe box due to having a slim foot shape. However, the end of the toe box is extremely firm and non forgiving. A day of walking/running/hiking, the end of your toes constantly against that firmness will leave them in pain. I think a full mesh toe box has more forgiveness and won't make your toes feel crammed all the time.

This is my fourth pair of Altras and have had great reviews of them in the past. This pair however, squeak so much, it's literally embarrassing to walk in them!! I've had these about 7 months and have had to start looking for new ones.

I have an essentially new pair of these shoes and my left shoe squeaks so badly that they are unwearable. I've confirmed that it isn't the insert and it isn't the sole (squeaks on carpet as well).

I've had several pairs of Altras and have been overall very happy with the brand as a whole. I recently picked up a pair of Outroads. I found that they seemed to run a half size small. No biggy. Moving up half a size made for a good fit. I have found the shoes to be very comfortable and sure footed; however, these shoes are essentially unwearable. I've got maybe a hundreds miles on them and they still squeak with every step. I have never had a pair of shoes as infuriating as these. Literally every step I take results in a loud squeak. Doesn't matter if I'm on ground, gravel, rock, road, indoor surface. Every step there is a squeak. I even applied talcum powder beneath the insert and flipped the inserts upside down (swapping R&L) and a too lol the squeaking persists. Whether I'm running, walking, or hiking, I'm squeaking!

I have narrow feet but this one is way tight. It has hard spot in the instep of the right shoe and most of all it seems like the toe box is more narrow than my other Altra's. I think I'll stay with my Olympus. I'm still on the Altra train but this one misses the mark with me.
