I had been using and buying Hoka shoes for the last 3 years, however I ordered this shoes 10 days ago and at the beginning seems like all of my other hokas but close view the material looks of lower quality than in the past, very thin fabric and I only used twice this shoes and wow my right shoe have the sole detached like very cheap plastic or cheap glue was used, disappointed for now.

I've worn the Goviota style for years . However this model has changed . It is very wide through the toe area, looks odd also . The rubber edge of the soles stick out , I actually stepped on the edge a couple times . Lastly , the cushioning that is in the Goviota 5 is lacking . Hoka did shorten up the shoe laces which was an improvement . Also loved the new Teal color . I returned these , will wait for the Goviota 6

I wanted to love these so bad -- they were so comfortable when I first put them on, but destroyed my feet after running in them a few times. Very comfy for walking, but I wouldn't recommend running (and neither did the workers at Fleet Feet lol). In terms of sizing these run big and wide.

I am so disappointed. I LOVED my Gaviota 4s. They were as supportive as the Brooks I used to wear, but with way more cushioning. The redesigned Gaviotas seem to have no support at all. Maybe it's because they are so wide. The front of my foot doesn't touch the sides, and I can't lace them tight enough to provide any support to my arch and the midsection of my foot. The toe box is noticeably wider than the 4s. Hokas already look large, but these are shaped like duck feet. And while I never thought I'd say this, there is too much cushioning. I feel like I'm walking on marshmallows. I need a bit more structure or rigidity. I wore them around the house for a couple of hours today and my feet actually started to hurt. I thought I had found my forever shoes, but I guess I'll have to go back to Brooks or Saucony.

This model of show is not consistent in sizing from year to year. I have had 3 different pair of the same model and every year my size changes. This year the width was more like an extra wide. I won't buy this model again and I may not buy Hoka's again.

Please bring back the Gaviota 4s or offer narrow sizes in shoes that offer both stability and cushion in subtle colors. I would try the Stinson 7s, but the colors are awful. Hokas tend to run wide and I had to lace my the Gaviota 4s as tightly as possible to make them work. The Gaviota 5s are way too wide for narrow-ish feet.

I purchased these from a retailer. After trying on multiple styles, these felt like I was walking on clouds!! I am a teacher and I am on my feet quite a bit. I would wear these to work 2-3 days per week. The first month or two, my feet didn't hurt in the evening or even the next morning which I normally experience. After having these for 3 months, they felt completely deflated. I feel like the cushion is gone and I am walking on the hard ground. I didn't expect them to last forever, but I was hoping they would last more than 3 months.

I've had 3 pairs of Gaviota 4's, and I absolutely loved them. I didn't think there would be much difference in going to the Gaviota 5, but I was wrong. These feel like they push into my arches (painfully), and they don't have nearly the cushioning that the 4's had. Unfortunately, I tossed the box when I got them, otherwise I would be returning these.

The change from gaviota 4 to 5 is significant enough that the fit of the shoe is no longer the same fit. The 5 has a lower heel to floor rate which makes my foot slip right out of the shoe. I wish they hadn't changed it since the 4 was a perfect fit and now I can't use the 5which is the only shoe Hoka has with the most stability and plush.

I have ordered Gaviota for the last three years in 9.5. This year it was a half a size too big and the shoe in B with is extra wide. I had to return it. I did go to a store and try on a size 9 and the length is correct but the width is still too wide.

I am a nurse and have only purchased HOKA shoes for work because they are comfortable. After wearing these shoes for a few hours my feet hurt to the point I had to change shoes. I really loved the design, but they were painful to use.

I have the gaviota4. They work well for me. Thought I'd like the Gaviota 5 with more cushion but the difference in the j to h frame, the meta rocker change and wide toe box are not for me. They hurt my feet, cause pain in my knee and rub my ankle. I hope they go back to the design of the 4. I'm sending them back.

I will say, I ddin't get a chance to wear them to give a proper review. The left shoe was defective in the heel top, stitched incorrectly and so felt a lump when wearing the shoe. The right shoe felt great, returned them since it was like wearing two different matching shoes. I tried to exchange them, but Zappos didn't offer same size and color as an exchange option.

Except for this pair, I've never purchased a sneaker that looks SO huge on my feet. Why are these so wide? I even checked to see if the wrong size was sent, but nope. 8.5 medium width. I currently own a pair of Solimar, but I am looking for something with more stability as well as cushion. Hoping to return these for a different model.

I loved all things Hoka Gaviota until I bought the 5's. They are huge looking on my feet. They don't feel like they have the support like the other pairs I have had before. I wasted almost $200 on a pair of clown shoes that are just sitting in the corner. Hoka please make more shoes with stability. I really love your shoes until now!

The shoes are definitely comfortable. But I HATE how ugly they make my feet look! I know it's supposed to be running shoes but come on! Nobody's wanna walk around like they got giant hulk feet. I normally wear 8.5 and I bought 8.5 wide according to Hoka's size chart. It said to round up to nearest. But shoes are actually kinda big in a way that I can fit my finger in the back. It doesn't rub or bother me since the heel is very much cushioned. But I will exchange for smaller size, hoping that it will look better

The fit was larger and wider than other similar brands. The outer foot bed was enormous, not attractive.

i will be returning the shoes, very sadly. I've purchased several different styles of Hoka, and wore out my Bondi years ago, but it seems as time goes by, the shoes are becoming ever more bulky and just way too wide in the front half. I don't understand why the sole has to flair out so much, it makes the shoe look ridiculous. My feet swim around in the front which would make them too uncomfortable to wear. I never have this issue with other athletic shoes, I have a medium width foot and all other athletic shoes fit great, sadly, all other athletic shoes do not support my feet like Hokas do. They were recommended to me by my foot surgeon and as a result I have avoided foot surgery, so far. The other models I used for short walks, with heavy socks .. not ideal in the summer! However, as I've mentioned, I've totally worn out my Bondi pair and the new styles don't in Bodni and this style .. waaay too wide in the toe area and overall too bulky. Why does a running/walking shoe have to look and feel like I'm wearing clunky boots. The support and cushion of the soles remains great ... but sadly .. I have to start looking for a different brand and say goodbye to Hoka ... :-(

I've been running in Hokas for years, but wanted a dedicated pair for walking. I decided to try these for the cushioning and stability and purchased a size 8 Regular. I tried to like them for a few months but I give up. The toe box is so wide it looks like duck feet, and I literally tripped over my own feet walking in them.

Though these shoes were super comfortable for a while, after using them for 6 months the inner lining of the heel began to tear. After just over a year of use, the inside was so ripped up the foam was coming out and the hard shell lining was poking through to my ankle. Apparently this was a big problem with the Gaviota, Clifton and bondi shoe materials. They have since claimed they updated the material and I just got a new pair of Clifton's to see if this holds true. For the price of this shoe they should withstand walking & lifting in them for more than 6 months without ripping.

I have the Mach 5 Hokas and love them. I tried to mix up the design by buying these in blue. There is a HUGE difference in sizing between the two styles. Even though I ordered the medium width, these were still VERY wide, especially in the toe box. I felt like my foot was moving around way too much and they almost felt like clown shoes since they were snug in the back and loose in the front. If you are looking for a wide toebox, these might be for you, but I found them to be very disproportionate. I also didn't like how the blue waves were all over the shoe. I thought it would just be the lighting but it's an unusual pattern throughout.

I have a pair of Clifton 9s that are very bouncy, which I liked, but they bruised my toes and now have a hole in the stripe on the upper after only 4 months of wear. I have arthritis in my big toe joints and plantar fasciitis. I tried Gaviota 5 and knew they were not going to work. The front is so WIDE and the fabric is not supportive at all, just a stretchy mesh. These are stability shoes but they would aggravate the arthritis by not holding my foot still. I could also feel the bar in the arch, and they are not very bouncy. It took 5 minutes on my feet and back they went into the box. Nope. I think I will go back to Bondi.

These were painful on the bottom under my right foot. The toe box and top half of the shoe (if looking directly down at it) were very wide which is fabulous for me because I have bunions and really wide feet, but I couldn’t get past the painful feeling on the bottom - maybe whatever is used to give these optimal stability is too hard.
