I'm an avid walker and bought these based on a recommendation for comfortable shoes that would stand up to hit, Florida pavement. The shoes seem durable enough, but they are not comfortable. My feet ache, which has never happened with other brands. Disappointed, especially given the price.

I had high hopes for this shoe and purchased a pair when the Gaviota 5s were first released. The support and cushion levels were great, and the toe box was just right. However, given the price for these shoes, I expect them to last longer than 2 months. Not only did the tread wear down quickly, but pieces of the sides of the shoes peeled off. The first couple of pairs seemed to be a much better quality and I was able to wear a pair for about 3 months. They were only used when walking on a treadmill.

I have two pairs of Gaviotas and I love them. I recently ordered a new pair. They felt cheaper but I was willing to give them a try. Although they said the correct size they were two sizes bigger, both in widthand length. I put them up against my old Goviotas and you could visually see how they were much bigger. The only good side is that they were easy to send back. Guess I'll have to go back to Brooks.

After a short few months half the sole starting ripping off causing me to trip at work.. I originally bought these for my plantar fasciitis and they felt great for the first week then after that no more relief And for $165 pair of shoes I at least expected them to hold up for a year when I only wear them 5x a week walking at work. So disappointed I’ll be trying gdefy next, I’m done with hoka.

I have a wide toe box and high volume feet. These shoes are too big in the heel, too narrow in the midfoot, and perfect in the toes. The heel on these is so wide that my foot slips out, even when they're tied with a runner's knot. The midfoot is so narrow that my foot overhangs. The fit is bizarre.

The shoe, itself fit, but there was no softness under my feet. It felt hard and uncomfortable.

Wanted to get a good walking shoe and thought I'd find out why Hoka gets such rave reviews. IMO, this model is far too wide and looks a little like clown shoes. In addition, I don't think the price is justified by the quality of this shoe. It feels cheap and flimsy. The arch support is far less than I would expect for a good walking shoe. Back they go and I doubt I'll try Hoka again.

I reviewed these shoes almost two months ago after wearing them for a week and a half, and at that time they were fine but made my feet hurt after 6 hours of wear. Since then I have worn these shoes to go walking outside many times and wore them to work almost every day. I am someone who wears one pair of shoes until they give out and then buys another. After wearing the Hoka Gaviota 5's for under 3 months, I can say without a doubt, that these are some of the worst shoes I've spent money on. Here's why: 1. They look huge, and I have wide feet, so it made me look like I was wearing clown shoes. This is mentioned in other people's comments I think, and when reading them I thought it was just a them thing, but seriously trust me, they look weird. Especially the white and black models, because of where they cut, it's much more obvious, they just look silly. 2. They hurt after prolonged wear, even though they are shoes MEANT for walking. I wore these around the state fair for 6 hours and my feet ACHED afterward 3. The back padding of mine RIPPED after 45 days of use (this may have only been an issue with my pair as only the left shoe ripped, but this is still crazy) In conclusion, I would absolutely not recommend these shoes, seriously don't waste your money.

The good is the color is lovely. I've struggled with scoliosis most of my life. Back pain is nothing new to me, a good pair of shoes is a must for any mobility. The sizing seemed a little roomy, but wouldn't size down, the width is abnormally narrow. It's fairly cushioned with more of a springy response. Perhaps I got a lemon, but I've worn these for 2 months and recently started having debilitating hip pain. The shoe is breaking down, even the tread is wearing funny. I still have my Arahi 5 that doesn't have tread wear, guess it's back to the old pair.

These sneakers are still squeaky after almost 6 months. And the toe area is so big they feel like clown shoes.

The toe box is so huge that they look like clown shoes. The toe box is way out of proportion to the shoe, making the shoe look very unattractive on the feet.

The toe box is way tooooooo wide, even on the regular width. My feet are actually getting sore from moving side to side. From middle back ok, but just too wide.

Purchased these for working at an indoor range where I stand on concrete for upwards of 12 hours a day. I only work 1-2 days a week and the toe of these shoes have started to come unglued and the fabric has a hole at the toe. While they were great to wear, for the amount of money I am really disappointed in the quality.

I'm not an avid exercise person, I don't punish these shoes, but they're so worn down that my ankles are hurting. I don't know if the H frame collapsed or what, but my feet overpronate more and the soles are literally peeling apart. I walk from my home to the bus, from the bus to my job and back again. Each leg of the trip is 10 minutes, so 40 minutes in total 5 days a week, and I got them at the beginning of April. I walk on pavement, tile, and carpet, there's no reason these should be so worn down. Incredibly disappointed for the price.

I loved the Gaviota 4. The 5 is much wider such that arch and heel support are lost. It feels like there is less cushion in the heel, and it made my weight shift back such that I did not feel as stable. I think Hoka went in the wrong direction with this model.

I'm a nurse that has worn nothing but Hoka Gaviotas for the last 3 years, but the 5 is a completely different shoe than the previous version. The toe box is so wide that the already clunky shoes look like clown shoes. And the my size 8 4s are at least an inch smaller in length than the new 5s. Terribly, horribly disappointed, as now I have to find a new go-to work shoe.

Not comfortable at all. Not what I expected. I have had Clifton 9 so I was contemplating ordering those next. However, after reading many reviews of the re-design, I will not be reordering. I am really disappointed as I absolutely LOVED my Clifton 9’s from 2 years ago

These shoes are SO wide in the toe box! My feet run a little on the narrow side and they swim in these shoes. Plus they look extremely wide. My husband said they look like clown shoes lol.

I really wanted to like these Hoka's, but they were not wide enough with my full length orthotics. I like that the footbeds were removable. I wish they made an EE like Brooks. Thank you Zappos for your generous return policy!

As soon as I discovered the Gaviotas I was in love! I have very high arches and really need stability shoes when I walk (a few miles a day) otherwise I get really bad heel, knee, and hip pain. I love love love the Gaviota 4s and have a couple pairs. I've had the 5s for a few weeks and they have an extremely wide toe bed (which I don't hate, but probably should've sized down. I'm a 8.5 wide in the Gaviotas), but the soles of the 5s are already wearing and they do not feel like stability shoes at all. My feet really hurt after about 45 mins of walking- especially the bottoms of my heels. I DO like the new back and the shoe laces, but overall I would not recommend these if you've liked previous versions. I will be looking into different stability shoes as a result. Hoka, please return to the previous model!!
