I wear Hoka Gaviota's every day. It's the most supportive shoe for my foot: particularly with a recovering torn tendon. I own many pairs. However, the newer design has a wider toe box and it's more than I need and I feel like I'm wearing Mini Mouse shoes. Still wear them because of the exceptional support and cushioning, but less happy with the new design.

These shoes are comfortable. I can wear thick socks and my toes do not feel tight in the toe box. The cushion is great-and the color inspires me when I look down!

I've tried many other HOKA shoes. I just received these last week. I've been wearing in the house thought My left ankle was hurting from them. It happened to be the sli in shoes I had on before trying the new HOKS shoes on. I feel this pair feel really good so far. YAY! I was ready to give up and I found something out for others. I saw reviews that different shoes make a noise. Well I fould out I was noy walking right. You have to place hel first then rol toward the front. The noise stop soon as I started to walk right. My husband noticed my walk. Kelly F. so far I think you got what I'm going through. You really listen and I feel you might have been "Spot On." With this shoe for me. Thank you.! Remember I just got these ones. I will update again once I wear a lot linger in on my walkway. It's a brand new walkway and driveway. The driveway is 80' Ling and double wide. I love walking my driveway. Thanks HOKA I've been in pain 24 years since after my surgery in 2010 for ovarian cancer. It caused ready bad osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, nerve damage down my legs, fibromyalgia and a lot of scar tissue in my abdominal. They thought I had MS a few years back. I could not walk well from all my pain. I had all test for MS and didn't have it. I'm praying I get my life back with the right shoe. I don't like seen how you change shoes. When you find the right shoe you want the same for life. Pain really keeps you from going anywhere. The Bondi 7 is on it's way. I saw many reviews people wanted them back. I tried bondi 8 I didn't like it. If this bondi 7 works. I pray you hear the people and keep it. I'll be back for a second review once I wore enough to be totally honest.
Thank you!

These felt like clown shoes on me, and I own other Hoka styles that don't. The 9W Gaviota was MUCH too wide. I sent them back.

I love this shoe! It is supportive and very comfortable! Unfortunately, I purchased a regular-width shoe and should have gone with wide-width. I have flat feet and the H-shaped arch digs into my arch. I am going to get the shoe in wide width, it should do the job!

I've tried multiple styles and tend to prefer the arahi, but based on reviews of the latest version regarding change in fit, I decided to try something else. I wound up with the Gaviota based on my foot/ankle needs, ordering my typical size 7. On first try I noticed the wider toe box which was fine. I wore them around my house and decided to keep them, and threw the box away. Today I wore them for my first real walk/jog with my dog and the sneakers are just overall way too big. Now I'm stuck with sneakers I can't return. I love Hoka's but they change the fit so frequently.

I can only wear the Gaviota. I wish that they had better color choices like the other styles other than boring colors, My only real complaint is I likes the back tab better on Gaviota 4. It I feel was a lot tougher. The 5 after one week was coming away from seam. Again though I have high arch and planters fascitiis and have tried 2 other Hoka styles and 5 other brands and this is all I can wear. That's why I need more color choices please.

Comfy - but way much wider in toe box than the Gaviota 4's. Had to size down from womens 10.5 to 10.0 (medium width). My feet look so huge in them but I am still going to to wear them.
Wish hoka would consider making narrower Gaviota

Although not a preset choice in the review, these felt both too big and too small. Big in the toe box which I do like, but the foot bed at the arch is a bit too awkward. The side rails of the sole curve upwards and it feels like I’m walking on the top of the sole edge at the mid foot. I ordered the wide as I do in most shoes. This is my second time trying Hokas and the same problem again.

I have other wide Hoka shoes (Bondi and Clifton) so thought I would try out the Gaviota 5. They were VERY wide and unfortunately, they looked like clown shoes on my feet so I'll be returning them. The color was beautiful, though (Harbor Mist/Rose Gold)!

Hoka Gaviota is the perfect shoe for my feet. The cushioning and arch support is exceptional. I own a few Hoka Gavs because it has been the only shoe that provides me the support needed for recovery from a torn tendon. However, this new? design is too wide in the toe area, and the size was 7.5 regular width. It was still very comfortable and supportive, a little roomy, but I just didn't like the Minnie Mouse look so I returned them.

I usually need wide in Hokas, so I ordered my usual size in wide for these, and they were too wide! I tried the regular width and they were fine. So these seem to run wider than some Hokas out there. Otherwise they are great!

For a disclaimer let me voice my foot history: I have had flat feet up until my mid teens when I had corrective surgery done
That said my foot pain isn't as bad as it was but I still find I need a lot of cushion and support for my 12 hour nursing shifts.
These needs lead me to try the gaviota. I will admit the first shift wearing these was excrutiating my arch was killing me and I was worried I'd spent the money for no reason. Day two was more bearable and day three now I have little to no pain wearing them and my feet don't hurt as bad after my long shifts thanks to their cushion and support. I do find the toe a bit too roomy but not a detriment. I usually wear a 9 but I think an 8.5 would be too tight.
For those that are having feet pain trying undoing the very first lace hole. I found a lot of my pain was from the lace cutting into my ankle and the shoe not being able to flex with my ankle. Tying it on the second has been much more comfortable for me. Now if only hoka would make some styles with a black base color. Hint hint.

I have never had a pair of Hoka's before and after reading lots of reviews I ordered the Gaviota 5. I loved the pale blue color and pink/white tread.
I do have numerous foot problems so this review reflects that. I found them ever so slightly small in length. Not enough to order the next size up but I would not be able to wear socks comfortably. The width was true to size and the fabric upper would allow for some give. The main problem for me was that there was not enough arch support, which I badly need. It is was with some reluctance I have to send them back because these really are a great looking athletic shoe and superb for summer.
I'd also recommend:

These are my first pair of Hoka's and I really appreciate another brand with a wide toe box. A lot of others have complained it's too wide, and it may be a smidge too wide, but my toes are happy to not be squished anymore! They are cushy on the heel and just feel great all around.

Tried this style and found it stylish enough for going out in casual clothes and cushioned enough for my daily 2 mile walks. Worth every. Penny of price. The stability is wonderful.

My first pair of Hokas was Gaviota 4. I got them in 9wide and LOVED LOVED LOVED them. It was like walking/running on air. I use them to do a mostly walking workout with run intervals on the treadmill. When the Gaviota 5 came out, I got a pair of 9wide shoes, since that is what I wore in the Gaviota 4. I really didn't like them at all. They were too wide and look more like clown shoes than the Gaviota 4 ever did. I actually never used them for running. Since I use my shoes lightly, I am still wearing my Gaviota 4 on the treadmill because I just love how they feel so much and hate to part with them. The Gaviota 5 in 9 regular seems better than the wide. But it's still not as good or comfortable as the Gaviota 4. :-(.
Even though the Gaviota is a stability shoe, which I've always worn, the Gaviota 4 didn't feel like it was tweaking my feet. The Gaviota 5, both wide and regular make me feel like my foot is in an odd position. Definitely don't like them nearly as well as the 4. Sincerely wish shoe companies didn't insist on altering shoes every year.

These shoes are so comfortable and definitely run wide, which for me, is great! I was so excited to read multiple reviews complaining about how wide these shoes run. I have tried numerous other shoe brands and their wides fit too narrow. I even tried on a pair of wide Hoka Biondi 8s and they also were a touch too narrow. It was so frustrating. After reading the reviews for these shoes, I ordered them. My only comfort complaint is there is something on the in the left shoe that is rubbing the inside of my foot. With socks on, I cannot feel it, but I generally hate wearing socks so this might be an issue. My other complaints are regarding the style of the shoes. I don’t feel they are the best looking. They have a geriatric appearance to them and I wish there were a better variety of bright, fun color options in wide width. The soles of this shoe are ultra-cushioned and give off this appearance, not only in height. The cushioning is also very wide, which makes the wide width appear even wider, like you are walking on inflatable rafts. If you are self-conscious about the size of your foot, especially if you wear a wide width, these shoes might not be for you. I’m still deciding if I’m going to keep them. If I do, it’s only because I have accepted my wide foot ugly sneaker fate.

Extremely comfortable shoe, although it is too wide and my foot moves around in the huge toebox. I loved the Gaviota 2, and purchased 5 or 6 pairs of the 2, but disliked both the 3 and 4. The 5 is much better, because the fit, support, and rocker motion feel like the 2. I usually wear a 9.5, but had to size down to a 9. It is still tooo wide but I'm dealing with it (always wear my thickest socks), because except for the wideness of it, it's a great shoe. Please keep making it, just make it narrower or sell it in a narrow!
Even though it's not a trail shoe, I use the Gaviota 2 for hiking 14ers in Colorado, and hope to use this shoe but am concerned the extra room inside the shoe may pose a stability problem.

I really like my new Hoka tennis shoes. I gave a 4 star rating because I have very narrow feet and, of course, they fit a bit wide. Other than that, I like the style, the colors, and how comfortable the shoes are.
