Let me start by saying I'm not an athlete and have never been one. I bought the Gaviota 5s to wear on a once in a lifetime vacation that involved a lot of walking. I have Achilles tendonitis in one ankle, a bad knee, suffer from supination, and I'm a bit overweight and out of shape. I knew I needed some good sneakers with good support, and Hoka was recommended to me. I chose the Gaviota 5 due to the cushion and extra support, and for the most part, I wasn't disappointed. I wear a 6.5 or 7, and I bought a 7 in these, which fit fine in length. However, even though I have slightly wide feet, I found these shoes to be too wide in the normal width, and look like clown shoes on my feet! I alternated sneakers each day of the vacation (the other sneakers were not Hokas), and this worked out well. I had to replace the insole in the Hokas with something that had more arch support and cushion, but that's not uncommon for me. Overall the Hokas worked well for the vacation and helped keep me pain free, but I haven't worn them much since (8 months ago). Both sneakers were comparable in price, as well as cushioning and supination support, but I prefer the other sneaker's design and insoles. I will say though that Hokas are very nice shoes, particularly if you have ailments or abnormal gait (and wider feet).

First time wearing Hoka Gaviota. I wanted to try them because of a review that I read about roomier toe area. I am very satisfied. The toe area is roomier than Bondi 9 that I have been wearing, and my big toes no longer hurt.
I'd also recommend:
Hoka Bondi 9 are also excellent, provide excellent cushioning support.

Good option for overpronation. Even though I purchased the wide width still a bit narrow for flat foot, but overall comfortable and great for walking.

Fun looking Hoka's that provide great support but also feel like you are walking on a cloud. So much padding. I also like the extra inch of height.

I have severe nerve damage in one foot plus a fused ankle due to an accident and need a shoe that is stable, plush, and has plenty of room in the forefoot. The Gaviota 5 in wide are my go-to shoe because they are so comfortable even with my wonky foot! There is plenty of room to put in orthotics and the heel loops are a great help in getting them on.
I wish that Hoka offers more colors in the wide sizes. On occasion you have them but usually they are only in shades of black and white. We live in a rural setting so I am not using my shoes on pavement, and the red clay just stains lighter colors so they are not wearable outside even to walk our dogs. I do clean them often but the repeated brushing with shoe soap pills the fabric over time. Please offer some darker but brighter colors like blues, greens, fushcia, or red in wide!
I tried the Bondi 9 and Bondi SR since sometimes I need more cushioning but the new widths are just too narrow in the forefoot and pinch my arches so they don't work. Please do not discontinue the Gaviota 5, as they are your only stable and plush shoe now.

First pair of Hoka's and my gnarly, painful feet are satisfied even after walking 5 to 6 miles a day. Will definitely look at Hoka again when current shoes need to be replaced.

I can't say enough good things about Hoka sneakers! I've struggled with heel spurs and plantar fasciitis for a long time, and finding the right shoe has always been a challenge. The moment I started wearing Hokas, I noticed a huge difference. The cushioning is incredible it feels like walking on clouds and the support is exactly where I need it most. Comfortable durable and worth every penny.

I'm happy with this product. One of my leg has been numb and in pain from uncomfortable shoes. The first two weeks of using this product has drastically improved my numbness and pain. Currently, I have little to no issues at all. Would recommend to others who share my problem. Planning on repurchasing!

Daughter of mine suffering with plantar fasciitis who seemed to always buy athletic shoes that had been slightly used. After finding this out and speaking with friends that had worn HOKA athletic shoes shoes, I decided to buy her a pair of Gaviota 5 to try out. She immediately noticed and improvement with decreased pain. This did not solve the plantar fasciitis but I believe the HOKA shoes have played a big part in her gradual improvement!

I wore out my first pair so I had to buy a second pair because I love them so much! My first pair I've had for almost 3 years, but I wear them to work and work 12 1/2 hour shifts in nursing!!

I only wear HOKA's any more. In the past, I always had to order wide to accommodate my bunions. I can order regular width in these and they are perfect on my feet. I use them for walking and gardening. Great comfortable shoes. I do wish they had a bit more cushions. Men's shoes have so much more padding than womens.

My feet are a challenge.flat feet, plantar fasciitis, history of ingrown toe nails, over pronation & accessory navicular bones. I like to be active though. My feet aren't really wide, but I need extra toe box room. I usually have to get wide to accommodate that. The regular width on these is perfect. Lots of room in the toe box area. They feel great!

I am 69, still working and couldn't find a decent shoe. Spent 100's on all sorts of shoes to no avail. A friend told me to b try these. She can't wear them. They hurt her knees, but a she said people in her dental office wore them and were highly satisfied. She said sometimes people who buy hocus just can't wear them. But other people can and she told me about the 60-day return because of my age so I thought I'd try them. I work in a grocery store in my little hometown so I do a lot of standing and walking around. They are marvelous I absolutely love these shoes. The only other shoes I liked that could help me or a men's basketball shoe from Nike they don't sell anymore. The last garage sale I had I got rid of all my shoes that I bought that didn't help me. These I'm going to buy again and I might even buy another couple of different colors so I can go out with my friends sightseeing in different towns. Thank you Hoka for making such a wonderful shoe for such an old lady! I think what sold me was they asked if I had a wide foot and I said yes then they asked if I need extra cushioning and I said yes and then they asked if I needed a stabilizer and I said yes. That might be why some of you other people haven't had a good experience because you didn't get the whole experience.

Oh my gosh! This is my fourth pair. I’ve worn out my previous ones. After trying 4 different styles of Hoka’s, this pair is like walking on supportive clouds! The toe box is wider than some others but not in a bad way. I anticipate getting in a lot more walks comfortably! In getting older (58) aching knees, degenerative disc disease, and ongoing plantar fasciitis issues, I’m very cautious in the shoes that I buy for casual wear, exercise or dressy. And over the past few years, this is the only brand of tennis shoes that I will wear!

The Gaviota 5 shoes have just the right height for me and the toe box is a bit wider so I don't have to worry about pain from my bunion rubbing on the shoe like other brands. I order a half size up as I was told by an podiatrist and it works beautifully. I'm a fast walker and not a runner and these shoes work well.
