This pack is lightweight and very comfortable. It has great capacity both as a work bag and day hiker. I don't love the limited opening for the center compartment- the zipper spans just the top 1/3 of the pocket, and that makes it tough to find items at the bottom of the bag. Be prepared to blindly reach in and feel around for your stuff.

Could be slightly bigger, but is durable, colorful, and works for my middle schooler.

I just took this on a week long trip. It holds a lot. The side pouches are nice and deep and the front webbing held my hat and scarf on the airplane. I do wish the front section had a longer zipper so it opened more widely. Access to the inside pockets is a bit restricted. I don't know yet how durable it is.

Compared to the previous LL Bean Quad backback I had, this one is less comfortable and the straps hit my shoulders at an awkward angle. Also the pockets in the front section are difficult to access as the front section doesn't open very far. The pack is decent enough and is pretty light and holds a 15" laptop and my lunch and a few other things, but it is not as good as older LL Bean packs.

My 10th Grader LOVES this backpack. It holds all of her school stuff, plus a change of clothes for band and practice. There seems to be a slightly frayed area on one of the straps, but I am keeping an eye on it. Now that she has it, she doesn't want me returning it, even for a replacement.

just finished my first trip and the pack was a life saver. My only wish is for the middle pocket to have a bigger zipper. There so many pockets in this that access is difficult without emptying it out.

Great backpack for my middle schooler. It could use a smaller outside pocked instead of the jacket straps.

Roomy to go to school or for a trip. The strap on the outside can hold a rain jacket easily. The side pockets are great for water bottles.

Seemed like very good quality. It was tall enough, but not as wide as I expected and didn't think it would be large enough for my middle schooler. We exchanged for the larger 42L backpack.

12yo really likes the bag but would like the padding at back to be a little more supportive. There is never enough time to get to lockers between classes, so everything gets carried all school day. The bag holds it all.

I love this backpack. I use it every day instead of a purse to carry iPad, wallet, water bottle, purchases, sweater and everything else. Only gave it 4 stars because the shoulder straps aren't in exactly the right place, I'm 5'2" and it's designed for a slightly wider torso. It's roomy, it protects my iPad and keeps it and groceries from stabbing me in the back. Love that I can carry a sweater and water bottle on the outside. The bright blue color could be a little more subtle.

Overall this backpack is great. The quality is self-evident, it feels well-made and durable. It fits everything I need, plenty of organized pockets on the inside. The straps however sit funny on my shoulders, so it doesn't feel as secure as I would like. Additionally, my admittedly large water bottle does not fit in the water bottle pockets on the sides (sigh).

While this is a nice pack, it does not have the pockets that the Quad 4 had. The front pockets are deep, maybe too deep, and this makes losing items easy. The front pocket zipper also does not unzip very far making getting into the the pocket difficult.
However, the straps are comfortable so far and the sternum strap is long and also comfortable.

Got this for my 10 year old who needs a good size bag that can also hold a laptop due to the hybrid learning schedule this year. It was more $ than I wanted to spend, but I think it will be worth it. It fits all is many required school supplies.
The color is beautiful, light blue and turquoise, and he doesn't think it too feminine. I wish though, that LL. Bean's color options were less gender specific for their bags--its often either very dark for boys and bright purple for girls.

I use this for work and just returned from a three week vacation where I carried it daily in Alaska.
Good size. Light weight. Secondary pouch is a bit of a mess as the divider doesn't do much and everything in the pouch just sort of hangs out together. I took two stars away because the straps are angled too wide. I am a 5'9" male with a 44" chest and the straps hit me at the very farthest out on my shoulders - this causes them to slide off constantly unless I have the chest strap latched.

There's no storm flap over the outside zippers, which comes across like a cheap, cost-cutting measure. If I didn't need the pack as soon as I got it, I probably would have returned. It'll do.

Strap broke within a week. I think it was a defective one, but I've never had that happen with an llbean backpack before. I've had them since I was a kid. Exchange was simple at the store. We will see how this one lasts!

Seems overpriced compared to what you get from other high end companies for the same money. Thin material and the water bottle holders are very limited. As a family we spend a lot at ll bean, mostly satisfied. My high schooler will put this to the test as well as the warranty.

My son really likes the design of this backpack better then the other school backpacks. I was hoping this would work well for him. I don't think this is made well enough to be a school backpack. It's already coming apart at the top of the strap. My son is in 7th grade and it barely holds all of his things. He hasn't even tried to bring his laptop home from school yet.

I don't even know what to do with all the straps. They are everywhere. Not a fan. Not the LL Bean quality I remember. Disappointed

Meh it's a good backpack but it's definitely not up to LL Bean's usual quality and standards. Fabric quality is only ok. Lining is bright turquoise which is garish against the black outer fabric. It's kinda small too. I miss the llbean quad pack and the older, better models. It's fine for now.

Very disappointing! My daughter wanted something mature looking, besides the same Deluxe Backpack she's had for years. We thought this would be an upgrade in style. It is but it's WAY too small, not large enough for an older middle schooler or high schooler. Isn't large enough to hold a 2 inch binder, a few notebooks, a laptop, lunch box and gym clothes. She will certainly not be able to use this through high school or college. Will be handing down to my 4th grader who's 60 pounds, 55 inches tall but only brings a binder and lunch box to school.

I bought this backpack to replace an older model I had for work. I don't recall the name of the other backpack, but it had a zippered bottom compartment for shoes and gym clothes, which I loved. However, that model isn't made any more, so I chose this.
As others have noted, the pockets for water bottles, which looked like a great addition to me, are very small. Only the slimmest bottles will fit. The laptop compartment's padding is meager, and the front zipper pocket, where I usually throw my wallet and keys, is a black hole. There's no key clip, so I often have to dig.
It's fine, just not the thoughtfully-designed and incredibly useful bag I've come to expect from L.L.Bean. C'mon, you can do better than this!

We really like this pack but why is there only one available color that is more on the girly side. Are you going to get more colors for this?
