These socks were supposed to be 'extra thick' . They are as thick as regular hiking socks used to be before everyone started making socks thinner. I like them, but I would not call them extra thick. Just barely thick enough.

I bought these to wear exclusively with slippers around the house. They are thick, warm socks. I would imagine they would be somewhat uncomfortable in boots because of the toe seam, as others have pointed out. They stretch out a bit after wearing a few times, but do retain their shape after washing and drying in the dryer. They shrink a little after laundering, so I purchased a size large instead of medium for my size 9. They also pill quite a bit, but that isn't bothersome to me. For my purposes, they work out rather well.

I like these socks for many reasons, but I need XL size, which is hard to find, or almost impossible to find. I have been forced to buy something else, somewhere else.

I have to confess that I am wearing them now, however I am a little disappointed in LL Bean's quality control. I recently purchased several pair of these socks and discovered that no two were the same size with a variation of 3/4 inch. I also noted that these socks are not as thick, nor are they as tightly woven as the "same socks" I have bought in the past. I guess I am just old enough to remember when things were made better. These socks keep my feet and toes warm. I was expecting for the material to be more thick. My feet slide in the boot when I walk.

Very comfortable but I wish you could offer them with nylon reinforcement in the heels. That point wears out much too soon.

Description is everything they are and deliver but just a tad itchy.

Bought these a long time ago, still just as warm as the day I bought them. Thick. will definitely provide an insulating layer for a boot. I got these to go inside my winter boots to keep toes warm, even when wet, and they do the job, especially when I wear a thin pair of socks as an inner layer. They're just a bit scratchy for my taste, but I find myself going to them again and again when I know I'll be outdoors because the warmth they provide is worth it.

Perfect fit, perfectly warm and dry. Now I see why everyone recommends Merino wool socks!

I have been using these sox for wear around the house for years. I find them to be very comfortable and warm. My only complaint is that I wear them out. Perhaps it is because I don't usually wear them with shoes. However most of the floors in my home are carpeted.

Nice feel and great for colder weather. Helps keep feet warm.

I have 6 pair of these socks and I just love them!! Because wool makes me itch real bad I was a little apprehensive. Well they do not itch or scratch and they are so nice and warm on those cold days I got 4 more pair.

My husband likes these socks, but he wears through the heels much too quickly. They don't last long even after I mend them.

Warm socks for winter boots and well made. Confortable

These are very warm, comfortable socks. I'm a little sensitive to wool but they don't make me itch. They wash well and don't shrink. Wish they came in knee-high length.

Excellent. Toasty warm around the house (perfect for recent -40* wind chill drafts) and soften right up after washing. As with many wool socks, the seam at the toe end is uncomfortable - lumpy over toe knuckles - so we wear them inside out. Perfecto! Size 6.5 shoe, I wear small. Bought mediums for family they'd quit taking mine.

Ive been buying these for myself and others I think since the 90s. Theyre the warmest and most comfortable great quality socks. I like the light colored ones to wear around the house and the darker ones to wear with black jeans. You need to buy them before Xmas shopping season kicks in or they sell out.
