The sweater looks very nice and flattering. It wears a bit large and loose, but that's the style. Unfortunately, the wool material is quite itchy and I can only tolerate wearing it with at least 2 cotton layersone must be long sleevebetween my skin and the sweater. It's also hand-wash only, so consider that before purchasing.
If you have a tolerance for this kind of itchy wool, you might enjoy this more than I did. If you can't stand itchy wool, stay away at all costs.

The sweater fit is true to size, good color and soft; however, the buttons are loose and will have to be sewn tighter.

This is a wonderfully warm sweater that my husband loves. When I ordered it for his birthday, I thought it would be lighter in color as I've had off-white ragg wool sweaters before. This was more like a tan color, which is fine with my husband. I also think it fit him a little large, but once again, he loves it.

The sweater is well-made. It is too warm to wear around the house though. Maybe if I just sat and didn't do errands, it would be perfect.

Excellent sweaters, but the jury is still out on this chinese version of lambs wool. Seems a little more stretchy than those i have bought in the past. Got 2 of these as i live in an older house with constant drafts, so these keep me warm. For the 2 that i got, i paid a little more and got the tall version as i wanted the extra 2 inches in the sleeves and the body. My last XL i got before these shrunk a bit and the sleeves only came halfway down my arm. Happy that i upgraded to the Tall, and you will be too if you find yourself pushing up sleeves and wanting the extra length.

Sweater fit great but the solvent odor is bad. Tried febreeze. And hanging it out side a couple of days but little change. Not sure what to try next but with that pungent industrial solvent smell it keeps me from wearing at gatherings like church or other community events.

The sweater has a misty smell. Also the navy colour I received is different from the picture

I have had previous versions of this sweater and they have fit fine with this size. It is a little bulky in the chest in this version. I might have to try a Medium when it comes back into stock.

I bought the grey buttoned collar Henley, quality, perfect fit and style for a necktie. Looks reverent for me a Baptist minister. O how I wish it came in a true navy and a black. Would definitely buy more.

I've been wanting to get this sweater for awhile and finally treated myself. It's a great looking heavyweight sweater to wear over a collared shirt. The wool smells a little funky out of the package, but the smell is fading with time. It is super warm, so on those cold days when there is a chill in the air, this thing will do the trick.

Quite a heavy gray sweater, but not tightly knitted. It is warm and comfortable. The buttons at the neck seem like they might not be secure, but there are spares provided. Overall GOOD.

Love the bulky warmth of this sweater, the placket is a little bit awkward so button the bottom button, but it's good looking

It's warm, seems to hold it's shape well. Buttons fell off during first use, not sewn on very well at all. Other than that, it's a sweater. Probably not as good as I expected for the price.

This sweater is so comfortable. The only reason I didn't give it a 5-star rating is that it seems a little smaller than other large shirts/sweaters that I've bought from L.L. Bean. I'm not a big fan of the ribbed waist on sweaters, so I sometimes find myself trying to stretch it out. Otherwise, it is generally a good fit. I got the "coffee bean" color, which is a nice brown, but it isn't a "classic brown", which at times, when I see it in a mirror, I think how I wish it were a slightly different hue.

It is kind of bulky old school rugged wool. Might be great for hunting or fishing, but a bit too outdoorsy for the office or dining.

I like to wear the Bean sweaters over a Bean flannel shirt. X-Large fits perfectly. But it still looks good (fits) over a long sleeve Tee. Wish there was a standardization of size in Bean sweaters. Some fit me in a large others require extra large. Wish material was a little thicker, but even so a very warm sweater.
Some Bean sweaters and fleeces (not so much this one) fit in shoulders but have too much material around waist. I didn't mind it when i was chubby, but now that I'm in shape it's annoying. Perhaps they can offer two lines of apparel, Dad Bod and Athletic. Just a thought, I'm not judging anyone because I once was a member of the superfluous legion. (Acquired at top rated restaurants I might add.)

This is the third sweater of this style my husband has worn and eventually worn our at the elbow since he wears it all the time around the house. He loves it and it has a great fit. We also gave it as a Christmas present to me brother because he liked the look of it.
I had one " however" though...About a month ago he ordered the one that is oatmeal color ( normally he gets the grey), and it has a strong wool smell. Hard to describe but it was noticeable while wearing. I hand washed it in a gentle soap I used to wash my woolen hand knit sweaters and laid it out to dry for several days. The smell was lessened but it still had an odd smell when close to it.
LL Bean was all out of the oatmeal color but they sent another grey at my request. That one was great...no smell.
So, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. I think my case was perhaps a particular batch that may have come it from the country it had been made it ( China, I think). LL Bean had great customer service regarding my issue.

The sweater was a gift for my husband. He was very pleased with the fit, color, and material BUT the buttons were very loose and concerning especially since I do not sew.

Great sweater; nice material, not scratchy, very warm. Great fit. Only downside is the smell--came with a mild but distinct odor of oil/machinery. Not overpowering, but clearly had to be washed thoroughly before wearing. Washing made it just fine. Perhaps real wool just smells like that at first--this is the first I've ever bought. That is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars.

Overall, the sweater is nice, but something is a little funny with the collar. The two-button collar opening is short enough that I mostly don't button the lower button, but if you don't button the lowest one, the collar sort of hangs in a U-shape (instead of forming the V you would expect) because there's no structure at the bottom of the collar opening. I'm not sure if mine was missing a stitch or if it was by design. It looks funny enough that I had a couple of people comment that the collar looked funny. I solved it by using a safety pin where the "V" should be so it looks right when unbuttoned, and I was thinking about asking a tailor to add a stitch instead, but shouldn't really need to do this.

It's comfortable, well built and a good fit.
The color is neutral so it goes with anything and it is warm. I need warm.

The Bean ragg henley was locally unavailable in my size and preferred color, so I had to contact a store on the East coast who gladly shipped it to my home, free of charge.
The sweater itself (natural color) is somewhere between a medium and heavy weight wool. It's quite warm when layered on top of a button down shirt. I would definitely recommend wearing long sleeves and a collar underneath this item unless you're immune to wool itch (even though the wool itself is quite soft).
My only real complaint is that even after two short wears around the house, the bottoms of the sleeves are already starting to pill. If it continues to get worse, I may consider returning, but for now I'm content.
