Wanted a waxed cotton jacket for some time. This jacket doesn't dissapoint! The down insulation is very warm and I love the brown (Coffee Bean) color. The jacket does run large (especially across the shoulders and chest). I originally ordered a large and exchanged it for a medium. My usual size is a 12.

Long time wait.... ordered November 18 2021... after a dozen emails of delay and reply needed... received my WINTER COAT May 5 2022. While I love the coat, it was grueling waiting.

Only 1 review was on-line to go by so, I contacted customer service before buying. She suggested I get a medium, as I am 5'2", 140 lb. with a 37" bust. Well! This medium is tight across the chest, shoulders and waist, barely can get it zippered up. The photo here shows it below the waist, but the jacket I got is not as long on me. The sleeves are very long also. Fabric is not stiff but the jacket is bulky and boxy. Zippered handwarmer pockets are small, zippers are small & who wants to put their hands past zippers? They scratch! The inside pocket is where your bust is - so as to make you larger on one side if you put anything in there, and a wallet would be very uncomfortable. The last 2 years I have been trying various jackets & parkas here, and sent most back; the best was a woman's hunting jacket with wonderful features (pockets, large buttons, but needed a 2-way zipper and insulation)....and now it is no longer available at all! I used to get all my outdoor clothes from Bean - no longer. I need clothes which move with me, have armholes which allow for layers, 2 way zippers that are large enough to work, no princess seams, pockets inside & out and NOT where my bust is! Who the heck is designing this stuff?? Very disappointed with Bean.

I have had a similar jacket for about 15 years. It's still a good jacket for knocking around the yard. It looks like it's been worked hard, but it is still warm.
The new is to replace it with something that I can wear in public.
It's a great jacket for winter. Waterproof,Warm
The new is going to get worn a lot.

I'm always skeptical about ordering the size because I'm short, but not so petite. The jacket is a little heavy but very warm which is what I wanted. The sleeves are long (I'm a short person) so I will take it to have it altered; not a problem. The length of the jacket is perfect for me. The material is durable. It's just the perfect jacket for the colder days. I have many lighter jackets, but this is the one for the colder days. Love it.

Warm and functional for around the barn. I would love it a lot more if it was 4 inches longer. Enough shoulder room to pick up buckets, groom livestock and jump on tractor. The bum just gets a little cold.

Waxed coat down fill, runs a bit big (xl/ 5'5", 180). Am already seeing my daughter eye it for herself.

This jacket is beyond warm. Great for really cold days at the barn, and the hand warmer pockets are in exactly the right placenot too high. It would be great if it had a hood, but I wear a balaclava when I need to protect my neck and head from the cold.

I bought this to alternate with my beloved LL Bean, puffy sweater jacket on those cold, balmy PNW mornings. This jacket is super warm! I love how it pairs with pretty much everything I wear. It's much heavier and bulkier than my puffer, but I expected that.
I ordered the color Loden. It's much "muddier"/darker than the photo on the website. If I was on the color-naming staff, I would describe it as a deep, brackish brown, slatey olive color - a perfect choice for incognito mushroom picking in the NW forest or archaeology-digging around an Irish bog. I love, love how the antique brass buttons and zipper compliments the colors of this jacket. The outside is quilted (Loden), the lining is true black, also quilted, and inside lining is a warm chocolate brown corduroy.
It's going to take me a little longer to get used to zipping up the jacket because it's bulkier than I am used to, but also very much worth it. I like the fit. For reference I am about 5'4', a (34E) LL Bean sweaters/tops in medium fit nicely. This jacket is a more boxy than puffer jackets. You can wear a sweater underneath comfortably. Hope this helps!

Purchased this jacket because of the durability of waxed coats/jacket. This is the warmest jacket that I've gotten from LLBean. I love that you can dress it up or dress it down. The wax part of the jacket is perfect. It doesn't have that waxy smell that some jackets have. This jacket is not for the faint at heart. You have to maintain it and I'd suggest yearly if you want it to stay durable. I was able to find a local person within state who does re-waxing of jackets/coats and once the snow is gone, this will be going out to have it done. How do you know when your jacket needs re-waxing? Everything sticks to it. When this happens I take a tape roller and go over it. You wont be disappointed in the jacket.

It took two years and about five purchase mistakes to find a coat that was warm enough for my daughter. Finally, we found a keeper and this was it. Very warm, good design and it seems like it will last.

I bought this a few months ago and it's still my fave. The down and quilting make it deceptively, welcomingly warm. I read it ran a bit large, so I gambled and went with the Small and I'm glad I did. It fits comfortably with wool layers underneath. The waxed cotton blocks the cold Chicago winter wind. The rich coffee bean color is flattering and goes with everything. I adore the pockets -
Warming my hands, holding my phone, keys, gloves, dog treats and it's not too heavy. I just love it.

I have worn this jacket around 30 degrees and it has been nice and warm. I did not see this listed in the description, but the liner is nylon. I would have liked it to also be cotton. I go between a small and medium in LLBean and I bought a small. There is plenty of room for a sweater without it being too bulky (5'6", 135lbs). Really like the style. So far so good!

I bought this in anticipation of frequent visits to the mtns. Our first visit the highs were in the mid 40's , and this coat performed beautifully. I wore a mud weight sweater under it and stayed warm & toasty. The size fit TTS. I recommend!

I had been looking for a long time for a coat like this to work in outside in cold weather. It is down filled, strong out materiel, lots of pockets, brass zipper, and more. Tough, good looking and fits great. And will last a long time. Great quality.
