It says heavyweight, but it really isn't. It's more like a long-sleeve t-shirt (thin and loose). They should make it form-fitting so that heat doesn't escape. Material is soft and comfortable which is good. I'll wear it on not-so-cold days. I own another brand thermal that's so warm I can actually leave the house without a jacket.

I bought one of these crews last year and while I really appreciated the fit, design and construction it came with a funky smell. It's taken a number of washings since then to make the fabric odor (and it is an odor) diminish to an extent where I'm hoping only I notice it.
I bought another one this year and when I opened the box I literally gasped the chemical odor was so potent. I took it to the basement in the hope that it would air out, but the smell was coming up through the floor after only a couple of hours, so I took it out to my attached garage. I checked it about 4 hours later and the smell the hit me when I opened the door was as strong as it was when I first opened the box. Worse yet, it had permeated my car.
I called LL Bean to complain and the woman I spoke with was very patient and understanding. She asked me to throw the garment away and she would send me another one at no charge. To make a long story short the second one arrived with the identical odor issue.
I went online and read several articles about removing smells from synthetic fabrics and the one that I tried called for pouring 2 cups of vinegar into a bucket of warm water, submerging the garments and allowing them to soak for at least 24 hours. I really like the shirt, so I dug the one I had thrown away out of the trash and put it and the new one in the vinegar water bath as directed.
The smell was noticeably diminished after 24 hours, but still there in a big way, so I dumped out the solution and soaked both again and again for 24 hours each time. I then dried them on Delicate/Low for 60 minutes with an auto-tumble. All this soaking didn't erase the odor completely, but the shirts don't smell up my closet or me, they fit perfectly, the colors held like new and I can wear them in public without young children holding their noses and weeping!

Cut too tight, especially under the arms. Quality is good but it runs small.

I bought this as a base layer for alpine skiing, to replace a baselayer I had from L.L.Bean that was around 12 years old (bought ~2012). Man, am I disappointed. The sleeve started to pill and wear away after just one use. I don't have any exposed velcro or anything obvious that would have caused this.
I expected better quality from L.L.Bean, and will unfortunately have to look at base layers from other companies.
