I bought this sweater for cross-country skiing in the Idaho-Montana mountains where daytime temps. might range from -10 to 40 deg F. Although the sweater sleeves are too long for my height, that's no fault of the sweater. It is very warm with a nice tight weave for windy days. There's plenty of room underneath to wear a Stay-Dri turtleneck, and the color is true to its picture (I got blue). I think this sweater will last me for many more years of skiing.

I have four of these. I wear them most days from the first signs of cold weather until Spring arrives. I also wear them to hunt all fall and all winter. They wear like iron. I have also started wearing the two with windstopper for golf on cold and windy days. A good thermal base layer and these and I am good down to 32 degrees. What is real nice is they look great on. I will wear one out to dinner and feel well dressed. And no itch. Best sweater ever.

I am delighted with this sweater. It provides good warmth in cold conditions, but is comfortable to be warn inside for shopping, etc. It look nice with jeans, khakis or other casual pants. I have received several compliments and inquiries from friends. Perhaps I'll see them in one soon.

Fit is slightly larger than expected for a large size (when compared to other brands). Almost all of my sweaters and fleeces purchased from LL Bean are a large size, so at least it is consistent.. Quality is great. Feel of the wool is somewhat coarse but expected for wool but still very comfortable sweater. I bought the waterfowl vest few years back with moderste use and no issues; it still feels and looks new. Needed another sweater so first thought was this one.

I purchased the Waterfowl sweater in Navy and Sable in size medium. I reviewed all the comments concerning the colors, size, fit and the collar. The medium fit perfect, I am 5'11', 175 lbs., waist 34", sleeve length 34". I did not find any problem with the stand up collar being to course or irritating as some of the reviews mentioned. There is room if you also want to wear a light shirt as well. The colors pictured in the catalog were true in color. The weather her in NYC has not been cold enough yet to wear, but I am looking forward wearing them in the Fall and Winter. I am a very satisfied L.L. Bean customer.

This is an outstanding sweater. The quality for the price is right on. Heavy knit, it is warm. This is not a slim fitting sweater, so if you are looking for that, look at other products. I bought this for duck hunting and it works great as a warm midlayer...I looked at other brands and fleeces and for me this is the best option. The thing is, it is such a nice sweater that I think I will buy another color for daily life... I am right between a medium and large in t-shirt sizes, glad I went with the medium size, I can still layer a shirt and flannel under it no problem. Awesome purchase, will definitely buy again.

From the fit to warmth of this sweeter, I have been very impressed. The first day out, I was getting compliments from everyone and I was surprised at how warm it was. I was hesitant at first to purchase this since I didn't have a change to try it on and it is expensive. However, I am glad I did - its my favorite go-to item for all occasions.

Purchased this sweater with duck hunting in mind. Figured would be nice layering garment. Well when I open the package I instantly thought to myself this is way to nice to trash in the marsh. I've yet to wear it hunting but it is one dang nice sweater very warm and non itchy. I'm ordering one in all colors within next year. Yes one will become my new hunting sweater. My wife likes it so much she is wanting one for next Christmas for herself.

Great quality wool sweater, well made with nice design features on the arms and shoulders. Worn under a coat in fierce winter winds in the Blueridge Mts this past week it was a god send, great insulation and looked good with a shirt out for a meal too. Unlike most modern fabrics safe to wear round the fire in the evening.

I saw the waterfowl sweater in the catalogue and knew immediately that I wanted one. I read sizing in the catalogue and ordered accordingly, large. When the sweater came, it was huge; then I ordered a medium and the size fit perfectly - the sweater is outstanding: great looks; perfect fit; warm for cold weather (I live in Chicago); better than I expected and precisely LL Bean traditional quality of excellence. You will love yours , too!

Very warm and comfortable, cut to accommodate layers underneath. No scratchiness for this user, but that's with wearing a long-sleeve tee under. Great as an outdoor layer for chilly fall and spring days, and have even worn it out this winter on milder days instead of a light jacket. Looks great! Although this sweater purposefully runs a little big and baggy, it was mostly true to LL Bean sizing. Did not have to size down.

I bought this sweater to replace some older woolrich sweaters. This garment is much nicer than my woolrich sweaters. The sweater is dense and a bit on the heavier side, in a good way. If your looking for a quality sweater look no further than this one. Plan on buying another soon.

I just want to say up front, that these sweaters are outstanding! Built really heavy, however, order DOWN one size, as they run extremely large. I'm 5'9", 175lbs., and I ordered a large, which is what I wear in just about everything. I could have accepted the large, knowing that I'd be layering, but the neck did not fit good and snug, like I prefer, so I returned them for a medium. I'm sure they will be fine...

The dense weave makes the sweater quite warm, without being bulky. The zipper makes it easy to close the sweater at the neck for extra warmth when outdoors. I liked it so much, I now have two.

Warm sweater, fits well. Quality appears to be excellent. Will be interesting to see how it holds up long term.

I wasn't sure about it when I bought it. Never been very happy with wool sweaters. But needed something warm. I have been very happy with this sweater ever since. I wear it all the time. Yes, it's a little bigger than most, but that makes it even more comfortable.

I've used this sweater two hunting seasons now and have been able to use it as my outer layer during two years of Kansas Christmas Pheasant Hunts (28-45 F) as well as on the clay range. It has been warm and flexible, allowing an easy gun swing. Fit is generous enough as an outer layer. This is definitely a working sweater and if you're looking for an "urban outdoorsman" look, you might need to look elsewhere because it, thankfully doesn't have that fit!

I purchased this sweater for myself and I'm very happy I did. This sweater exceeds my expectations as a sweater for casual wear (wore to church for Christmas Eve) as well as for outdoor activities. Planning to wear it elk hunting next year in the Cascades of Washington state. Well made, comfortable, heavy and tight knit. I loved my "wooley pully" sweater as a Marine and this sweater will be better as my go to for staying warm with the rest of my gear. Color of choice was loden....good color.
