This is the finest sweater I've owned. The wool is relatively soft, densely woven and durable. It keeps me warm in the chilly winter here in South Africa but breathes - characteristic of pure wool. The patched sleeves and shoulders make this a rugged outer shell and the extra long sleeves are great for partially covering my hands when needed for additional warmth. Couldn't be happier with this sweater.

I look for fit and quality in a sweater and the commando sweater delivers on both. This henley version is my third commando sweater and I went with the dark green with a brownish hue - very good. I am 6-1 , 202 lbs . and the XL regular fits perfectly and holds its shape. Provides a very warm layer in winter and a good top layer , with a shirt under it, in fall and spring. Highly recommended . It is wool so it does itch a bit so plan to wear something with good coverage under it.

I like the look of the Henley and I love this sweater. I wear this running errands round town, in and out of the car, in stores, across parking lots, it keeps me nice and comfy without over heating when the days are in the low thirties/high twenties. I admit I broke down and didn't hand wash it but threw it in the front loader and let it dry flat. No problem!

I am very satisfied with this sweater. At 6ft and 250lbs I ordered a Reg/xxl. It is roomy but not hanging on me. Warm in and out of the house. Looks good, feels good and best of all my wife thinks so too. She is my best critic and guide and she is happy with it too. I plan to by another one, different color......

I am very pleased with this sweater. Made of thick Merino wool it is very warm yet not very scratchy. The fit is true to size, the color is quite nice and it was worth every penny. Not your typical sweater, but I like the unique details. Henley collar, sleeve cuffs, and shoulder/elbow patches make it unlike any other I have owned. A great winter sweater. My only suggestion is that they offer it in some more colors.

I recently received my commando sweater. Although most of the previous reviews I had read were positive, a few had me wondering if it would fit well, and if the quality would stand up. I am extremely pleased with my purchase. The fit is perfect, quality is great, style and color exactly as hoped for. Being wool, it can be used in a broad range of temperatures. No regrets here, I love it.

I wanted a sweater like this for me, but there isn't a woman's version. So I ordered a medium, and it worked. It doesn't fit as well as I'd like (a bit bulky), but it is the warmest sweater I own. I love it so much, I bought one for my husband. We wear them when it is that damp, 'wicked' cold, and we need the extra warmth that tight wool affords.

Very good quality, great value. I recommend it.

I bought this sweater as a gift for my adult son and he loves it. It is well made and very warm. It also fit true to size and frankly I think looks better in person. It was a perfect fit and I think he will get many years of good wear from this purchase. I would wear this myself.

I was very impressed with the style and quality of this sweater! I'm 6'00" and about 200 lbs, with broad shoulders for my size and the XL fits perfectly with just enough extra space for me to wear it as a loose fit, even with a button down shirt underneath. The sweater and the shoulder and elbow patches are both very high quality. The sweater is very warm and for all but the coldest of days in middle Tennessee, I really don't need to wear a coat over it. It is called a "Comando Sweater" for a reason, as it really does have a very military look to it. My friends who know that I am a Navy veteran, just assume that it is one of my Navy sweaters. This is a definite plus to my wardrobe!

wandering through the LL Bean store in Freeport, I ran across this sweater. I bought it, wore it immediately and was impressed how warm it is....Merino wool, I believe, and relatively inexpensive. It reminds me of the British military campaign sweaters.

I actually ordered three of the Henley Commando sweaters as gifts this year. I was so pleased with the quality and apparent utility of the wool sweater for winter activity including hard water fishing that I ordered one for myself. The tight wool knit is comfortable and it looks to last me for many years to come. Thanks for the quick turn on the shipping. The gift receivers were thrilled to get the sweaters for the same reasons I was.

Very warm and comfortable. Great on days when it's cold outside. I have broad shoulders and the henley fits well. It is what I would (and do) expect from LL Bean.

Gave this to my fussy husband for Christmas and he has worn it twice in three days. That's a winner in our house. The henley look keeps it casual and relaxed, but the shoulder and elbow patches make it classier than the average henley. It is not a lightweight shirt - it is much more of a sweater. My husband wears a light t-shirt underneath. The fit was perfect - he is a large and the shoulders, sleeves and length were just right.

I've bought 2 of these sweaters in recent weeks. They fit good and feel good. I'm 6'2" and weight 210 so the extra large fits fine. sweaters go good with khakis or jeans.

I was looking for a warm and comfortably wool sweater and it is great. It has not stretched and is not too bulky. I bought one of these last year and I bought another this year. This is an excellent product.

I'm 6'1" 230lbs, bought an XL several years ago, tight fit, fine for fishing or skiing when wearing under jacket. XXL much more comfortable and looks better for casual wear. Strongly recommend one size larger than you normally wear unless you want a snug fit.

This sweater is very well made and extremely warm. Looking for a sweater with a classic rugged look, and this is exactly it.

My husband tells me every day how much he loves his new Commando Sweater, Henley. It keeps him warm in our snow country. He can wear it to any event and be properly dressed plus he looks great wearing it.

I ordered this sweater in the green heather. It looks brown in incandescent light, olive outside and in fluorescent. It fits very nicely. I'm a 6' 2" 17 34-35, and the regular extra large fits perfectly overtop of a shirt. It's roomy. I often wear it over top of an extra-large military-issue (Vietnam Era) M-1951 Wool Field shirt. I really like the extra long sleeves, since short sleeves are often a problem (and pet peeve) with me, and they roll up to be out of the way. I like the "elbow" partches, too. They protect the elbow and the whole forearm (just like real commando sweaters do). This is a very thick, warm sweater. I wore the Henley over a cotton turtleneck this a.m., and I was comfortable outside without a jacket, while it was 28 degrees F. I like this sweater so much that I am ordering the crewneck one. This is a real find and excellent value. This is LLBean. An earlier reviewer criticized the sweater, saying it was amateurish, the wool was very scratchy, etc. That is not the case with the sweater I received. My sweater appears very well (read professionally) made. The sleeves are not too long. The patches are well placed. The wool is, well, wool. No one would confuse it for silk. But for wool it seems pretty soft to me. Trust me. I know wool. I wore an authentic military-issue Commando Sweater in the service. Now, that was was scratchy wool. You needed skin like tree bark. Not so with this sweater. In short. I love this sweater. I recommend it very highly.

Wonderful sweater, warm, comfortable, well made, looks good, near perfect fit (large) and should last for a long time. Only one problem, the waist is too lose. Waist band doesn't exist. Material just falls straight down and very lose. Reordered a medium to see if waist will be more snug. My large crew version, purchased a few months ago, fits perfect around the waist. Bean Customer Service, as usual, is five plus stars.

I have been trying to find a replacement for my original commando sweater that I purchaced over thiriy years ago and has served me well and have found it. Well made and comfortable and am looking for many years of wear in the future, thank you.

I recently purchased this sweater to wear while at work. I work as a Event/VIP Security Agent, and spend many hours outside in the elements, thus the reason for this wool sweater. I have worn it a few times now, and love it!! It is warm (w/o being too bulky). It looks great, which is important. It fit great! I am 6' 210 lbs and I got the XL which fit perfectly! I also recently purchased the Technical shell and pants for hunting, they are great too! But that is another review!! I have trusted LL BEAN many times now, and have NEVER been disappointed!
