Out of the box, I was a bit surprised at the weight of the sweater, which is a good thing. It is incredibly warm. The fit is fantastic. I am 6 foot and weigh 185 lbs. I purchased the Briar Heather which is tan, and it looks great with a pair of jeans. It also looks great with a shirt underneath and would even look great with a shirt and tie. Did I say it was really warm? A great look, quite functional, and it's a welcomed winter time addition to the wardrobe. Just buy it, don't think about it.

I like wool. This is a different style of wool sweater for me, one who loves Shetland wool crew necks and v necks. When I saw it in hunting catalog and showed it to my wife, she liked it too. In a few days it was at my door and it fit great, feels great and I have worn it many times and will continue to wear it a lot. I especially like the pads under my elbow, for many of my swearers wear out because I drive a lot and keep my arms on the arm rests. I do not hunt any more but I sure will wear it fishing in the spring and fall.

From the moment I took the Commando sweater out of the package, I instantly recognized the quality of the material and couldn't wait to try it on. It did not disappoint. The fabric was top quality and it looked fantastic! I would highly recommend this sweater to any customer considering buying a warm, stylish and quality piece of clothing. Neal

I bought this to replace a wool sweater of similar style and color that I had been issued in the Navy. I really loved the old one, but it had developed a hole and was getting thin and saggy. I was a bit worried about the color (Deep Woods Green Heather) based on another review. The one I received is a mixture of green, brown, and red fibers, but the composite impression to the eye is an attractive dark green. I just returned from a trip to Alaska where the temperatures ranged from 0 to 16F. I ended up wearing this sweater most days over a dress shirt as a layer. The material weight is dense but not too bulky, and fits well. I was comfortable leaving it on indoors; instead of overheating, it provides a gentle warmth that, along with the snug fit, envelopes you in a "warm hug" that you'll crave. I like the fabric "wear pads" that protect the shoulders, and not just the elbows but the forearms too. No static cling or shock problems. I always worry about sweaters pilling, but this one seems to be holding up very well. No regrets over losing my old submarine sweater; this is my new favorite sweater!

I really like the jacket. I'm really slender, but tall, so the M might be a little big, but the small would probably be too small. I had to order the jacket with expedited shipping, but UPS didn't deliver until 9 PM, which held me up because I needed to be on a plane with the jacket the next day. The navy color looks best. I'm definitely happy with the jacket. Of course, go figure, the next day, LL Bean had a 5% off or 10% off sale on their entire site.. Oh, well, I really like the company and their clothing, so it's okay.

The commando sweater is great, it is very warm and looks great. I had another from another company but I washed and dried it and it is ruined. This one is much softer and warmer

I purchased not one, but two of the Henley Commando Sweaters: the first one was so warm, comfortable, & well made, I bought another! And I'll need both to help me get through this winter of 2014-15. They look good enough to wear to your favorite restaurant, and work hard enough to layer under your goose hunting camo.

Let's get the one slightly negative comment out of the way - the Deep Woods Green Heather color of this sweater is much closer to brown than green, BUT, it still looks great. Bought this for my husband as an "upscale" version of an old authentic Australian commando sweater he owns, which is really showing its age, to put it mildly. This sweater was purchased online, and I was very pleased with the terrific quality of it when I opened the package. It is very sharp-looking when worn, and quite soft, and seems like it will be comfortably warm. The husband LOVES it, and I love how it looks on him. The henley buttons are a nice, dressy touch. He will wear this sweater often. Highly recommend it.

I previously owned this same sweater, but it was ruined in a recent basement flooding. The day before yesterday, I went to the web site and found another, this time on sale, and with free shipping. I received it today via the UPS guy. I'll need it this weekend, since temperatures are forecast for the mid-upper 30's, and Sunday is shotgun sports day. This is a well-made, warm, and overall comfortable sweater. While it's not the same design as my other "Woolly Pully" sweater, this sweater gives me the warmth and flexibility I need when on the trap and skeet fields. It doesn't bind; it allows for multiple under-layers, and the sweater cuffs really keep the cold off my wrists. Thanks for such a great product!

Great Price for such a huge slab of merino wool. Pros: Merino wool is a wonder fabric Anti microbial, non itch, non shrink, tough, wicking, and it retains 80% of its insular value when wet. I have owned this sweater for close to 2 years now and it has worn like iron (I machine wash cold and lay flat to dry, only when needed which is rare due to the anti microbial nature of wool). I have used this as both an around town sweater and as a mid layer while out in the woods it has preformed well. The fit layers well and works with many different jackets. Cons: Poor weight to warmth ratio; there are much lighter options out there. Wind cuts right through it; on windy days a shell is needed.

God, I love this sweater! Thick, warm, and substantial, and not at all itchy. I love the cuffs. Looks great with a collared shirt in a casual setting or working in the yard. I really hope LL Bean keeps this sweater around, I want to buy the crew neck version as well. It's sweaters like this that make me love the winter!

This is the warmest most rugged sweater I have ever owned. It is my go-to for the coldest of Montana hunting or ice fishing days. I'm 5'9", 170 lbs., and the medium fits me well. The sleeves are a little long, but I just roll them back two inches. The only down side is that this great looking sweater is much too warm to wear in-doors at a normal room temperature.

Long sleeve wicking t shirt, commando sweater, waterproof breathable shell jacket. You are ready for anything. Close fitting so great for layering (I bought to wear under waders or wading jacket but now wear it every day) and unlined wool, so it breathes. Long sleeves for rolling up, long body for staying warm, (I was surprised at how long the reg was...I do like it this way) perfect weight for PNW winter weather of 38-45 degrees. It is not as soft as merino wool, but it is not merino wool. This is a git r done weather and briars be damned wool that actually looks sharp. If real unadulterated wool makes you say "itchy!" Please don't purchase this awesome sweater. Go with the super soft please don't make me work sweaters. Those are great for the days you have given up...we all have those days. This sweater is for when you want to take over a small country or make 100 more casts in the freezing weather and then rule the local pub.

I love this sweater. My parents gave me a one in dark green 5 years ago as a birthday gift. I loved it then, and have grown to like it even more with time. This sweater is equally at home paired with khakis and a twill button-down or standing-alone with jeans and a t-shirt. The elbow patches are tough and practical for long days in class or at work. The shoulder patches keep the sweater from pilling when wearing a pack or carrying a rifle by its strap. When I wear this sweater I feel ready for anything and very very manly.

I got this sweater for my husband for Christmas. He decided he just had to have it just a week and a half before the holidays! Thank goodness for the extremely fast shipping. He is a land developer and a surveyor and he is always outdoors and with the extreme winter, it is exactly what he needed. He has so many sweaters, but he has proudly worn this sweater since Christmas....I am just so glad that you could offer him something he actually uses and he is so proud to wear. I will be ordering more. You hit a home run with this one. Thanks L.L. Bean.

Super warm, great fit. It also looks pretty cool. I have worn this sweater working in the yard in cool weather (0 to -5 C) and as a layer in colder alpine skiing weather (-20C) and it is great. You can feel the weight and quality in the sweater. Totally recommend it.

I got my husband this sweater in black, and he loves it. It's cozy, actually makes him look a little thinner too. Versatile piece, great design, a combo of very traditional military, but edgy at the same time. The kind of thing we used to scour for at thrift shops and surplus shops. Wish they made a ladies version!
