Another great sweater from LL Bean. This sweater has a great slim fit (for me; I am a high mileage runner / marathoner). But it can stretch out. The Henley stile is very comfortable. The heavier material on the shoulders and arms is tough and has good feel to it. This sweater fits and wears very well.

Bought this sweater for my son-in-law for Christmas and he loves it. The fit was perfect and it looks great on. He loved the color and the patches on the sleeves. Another great product from L.L.Bean.

I already had a regular commando sweater from LL Bean but liked the looks of the button version. It is a fine companion to the other one. Fit is good and it is really warm. Wore it on a trip to Buffalo when the highs were in in the mid teens. Looks really good also
You cannot go wrong buying this sweater. It was also much less expensive than buying from specialty military type stores and the shipping was free.
100% wool, not acryic

I purchased this sweater a couple of years ago after owning the crewneck version for almost 30 years (still wear it occasionally). This sweater has served me well by itself and as layer underneath my hunting coat on cold weather outings. I wore it quail hunting last week in 20 degree weather underneath my coat and was comfortable all day. I also find this neck to be more comfortable than the crew neck version. It is a great product and I was happy to see the one I recently purchased is same level of quality as the one I purchased 30 years ago.

Fine, functional and very handsome pieces of work. I've bought all of the colors and can't pin down a favorite; it'd be like favoring one child over another. These practical, Henley-accented numbers get the job done and work well as a top-layer in very cold weather along with the thoughtful choice of the right undergarments. Trust me, slip on one of these LL Bean woolen Commando sweaters and you'll be good to go while looking very dashing.

Hooray! Now my 6'4, 170lb son has a sweater that fits his lanky but slim frame. The size large tall commando sweater is not too wide for him, which is usually the problem once the sleeves and length is appropriate. We will be shopping at bean more often!

This is arguably the most comfortable sweater I own -- the material is light, but insulates extremely well, and is low-maintenance: washing requires only a cold-water setting and air-drying. I generally wear it with an identically-colored mock turtleneck, which works well with the henley style.
Like every L.L. Bean product I own, it is clearly well-made, and holds its color and shape throughout multiple washings.
I would consider this a colder-weather sweater, for certain; if the temperature is much over 50, this one will be overkill.
I also enjoy the "commando" styling, which of course is a personal preference!

Bought this sweater in the green color, fall of 2017. I am 5'10 1/2" tall and weigh 160 pounds and of medium stature. The large size fit perfectly. A bit longer on the bottom than the usual sweater but I find this to be a plus, and it looks fine that way. Just as Bean describes, it is slightly fitted at the waist. Wore it for the first time in mid November on 35 degree damp and windy day, had 3 light cotton layers underneath with a light nylon/fleece jacket over it all and was really comfortable. Not only purposeful/functional but this sweater looks great when wearing. Also, wearing indoors is not a problem if indoor temps are not high or near a stove/fireplace. The money paid for this sweater, in my opinion, is about optimal for something of this quality but still worth the listed price paid in 2017. Now that I have worn this I will most likely buy another in a different color. Time will tell how well it holds up after washing and repeated wearing but I think, based on the quality feel of this sweater, it should be fine.

I have been buying this sweater (or some form of it) since days when big hair was cool, and wool sweaters were not. I know for a fact that there is one in my closet that I purchased in 1988 and while a little beat up, it still gets pulled out every winter. It is my favorite sweater, and I will where it as long as I can. I have multiple of these in different cuts, colors, and styles. This sweater is so warm that sometimes you need to be carful when you where it, as they can sometimes get hot if the heat is too high indoors. Make no mistake these are not light dinner sweaters with the Misses on date night, these are being in the cold and handling business sweaters, They fit a little snug in my opinion, but not tight. Often I will have a flannel shirt and one of these and be comfortable. I work in live production so I am often in cold places, but doing work that does not keep my moving, and these are my go to item. They do not do well if you machine wash them - because they are wool and all. They tend to (bug / pile up) after a bit, so I rotate them every few years. New ones for dress occasions, and move the older ones to more casual and work situations. I have used a sweater shaver a number of times and that cleans them up and extends the life.

This is a classic commando sweater that looks way too good to be a commando sweater. Very well-made and it fits great - slightly fitted and very comfortable. I am going to order a few more colors. If you are looking for a HEAVYWEIGHT sweater, you won't find anything better than this one, except maybe the Waterfowler sweater (bought one of those too).

I received the sweater today and wanted to
try it on, it is a perfect fit and the cut is excellent. I saw reviews that the color was more in the brown family but not on this one.
It is a true fatigue green, the arm patches are large enough to really provide wear and the trim is excellent.
A really good looking sweater and am looking forward to cooler weather so I can put this to good use.
I highly suggest this item.

I found the LL Bean Commando to be of even better quality and fit than other military-styled sweaters I've purchased at a much higher price. And, the all natural fibers (100% wool, with 100% cotton patches) feel better, perform better, and are better for the environment. A terrific value!

Excellent sweater for cold mornings and the wool feels like an Army blanket, but better. I'm from Southern California and now living in Northern California and some days it can get into the -30s. Perfect and should last for years!

This sweater is a classic. It is my second one. My first is over ten years old (maybe a lot over) and is still fine. This is warm and sharp looking. The on-line sales staff was amazing. The color I wanted (green) was out of stock. They back-ordered it for me but said it would not be available until June. I got it in January, much earlier than expected but just in time for winter. Only criticism is that the color was not as shown in the catalog - more on the brown side than green, but very nice nonetheless.

I love this sweater so much I purchased a second one. The Commando sweater is very warm, perfect as a layer on on its own when the temperature drops. This sweater fits great and looks great as well. I like the fact the sweater does not "ride up" when moving your arms around and stays put. I would recommend a light base layer if you find that wool "scratches". The sweater is easy to take care of too.

I went out with just this over a flannel shirt and T-shirt and I was surprised at how warm it really is. The temperature was in the 20's and I had no jacket on but I didn't really notice the cold.
It also reminds me of the same type sweater that I wore in the Army over 40 years ago but this one is more stylish and warmer. I bought it because of the military look, henley collar, and natural fibers. Great fit too. I'm 5'9", 197 lbs and large was enough.
I don't see this style very often so I got it as soon as I saw it online.

I have a farm and spend a lot of time outside. Nice tight weave, works well under a vest. A reasonable price given the quality

I've been working to get healthier and lose weight. As I was approaching the milestone of being down 100 pounds my coach said I should have a non-food reward for the accomplishment. Buying this sweater in XLT was my reward. I have wanted a commando sweater for years and L.L. Bean offered it in a tall size. It fits perfectly and is warm - but not too warm. I've worn it rabbit hunting and to the office. The one warning I would give is that the green is more of a brown. Highly recommended!

I recently bought two of these sweaters (one navy, one heather) and I love them. They're very handsome, warm, and (knock on wood) durable. I also own two "Woolly Pullys" (the original British commando sweater) and in comparison, the LL Bean version seems to have a more sturdy weave and-- this is key-- it holds its shape well while you wear it, which is a major annoyance of Woolly Pullys, which bunch like crazy at the waist. If anyone from LL Bean is reading this: please offer this sweater in more colors, in a V-neck, and with an option for epaulettes. I'd love to own a greater variety of them!
