With the loss of the world's finest buffalo-hide moccasin some years ago, Tatanka by HS Trask, these LL Bean leather- or shearling-lined slippers fill a void for me, that if not existential, is certainly one of what to wear in and around my airport hangar apartment hideout in the wilds of Ohio (I have one pair of each type, leather and shearling lined...). I am not an 'indoor' cat, and never will be, so I venture out with these sole-less moccasins into the yard or on the sidewalk, as well as, traversing the driveway and airplane grounds from time to time. These outside activities ultimately take their toll on the soles and that is where they have worn through after about 18 months of use. I accept the inevitable outcome of this occasional outdoor use of the LL Bean slippers and promptly order a new pair while giving a proper Viking sendoff to the fallen footsore warriors. So expended, they may rest in glory in Valhalla, while the new pair take up their laudable and stylish mission of carrying me around the hangar, the apartment, and the nearby expanse of concrete, that, like the ocean, sometimes needs to be crossed if one is to be fulfilled.
