I purchased two pairs at my local Fleet Feet . Happily surprised with the new Rivera 3. Somehow they do not look like clown shoes (my daughter's choice wording for Altra's), as it appears the shoe is less wide. Seems more like a true slim now. I purchased the black and the pinkish ones, and was happy there were no neon colors on them. The shoelaces do become untied and you have to double knot them. If I could make two changes to the shoe, it would be to give them the vanish tempo laces and vanish tempo cushioning. They look super cushioned, but they don't feel like it.

The shoe is great overall. I previously wore the Rivera 2, and it's just as comfortable. However, the laces for the Rivera 3 model are VERY short. Not long enough for a heal lock or to double-knot.

I wish I sized up like I usually do, but otherwise the fit is good, still roomy in the toe box with the slim fit. Don't feel too cushiony to me, wish they had more for long runs. But I like the shape and look of the shoe, not stacked too high. No complaints with foot or joint pain anywhere. But the laces! Too short and untie easily.

These sneakers are great! They are lightweight yet offer great support. I use them a lot to go on long walks or hiking. I tried using them on more strenuous activity but they felt a bit too tight. They do run a bit small and are very narrow so keep that in mind. But otherwise they are a great light walking/every day shoe.

I love these sneakers for a quick on the go run, hike, or workout. They're very comfortable and easy to slip on and off.

Very comfy sneaker but a little on the narrow side, especially in the toe box

Out of the box, the first thing you'll notice is the color of these. They are beautiful. The bottoms are a good mix of support and cushion. Very low impact shoes, but don't feel too squishy to me. I have flat feet and feel like they offer me good support without my own inserts. My one minor complaint is that the laces are too small... will need to replace or relace first to see if I can make them work. I also wish they came up higher on the ankle a little bit to offer additional support. Overall though, out of the box I liked them immediately. Did a 5k in them on the 2nd wear and had no issues aside from the laces coming untied.
Pros:
- Wide toe box feels great
- Cushiony, but supportive
Cons:
- Laces are too short
- Wish they had a little more structure

The toe box is roomy. As someone with wide feet these are comfortable. They're light, light as a sock. The sole is stiff though. And overall I don't think would change much the more they're worn in. I'd recommend these to someone with wide feet.

Design: Sleek and thin. The color is a vibrant magenta with dark features and white soles. Personally I tend to buy dark shoes to keep from showing the wear and tear but these are easy to clean.
Fit: The shoe has a lot of cushion support for the balls of your feet and around the ankles at the collar of the shoes. The toe cap seems to be a little more rounder than most shoes which is great for people with wide feet or angled toes.
Things that can be improved. The tongue is a little thin and short, it would be easier to control if it were a bit longer and more cushioned.

I really like the cushion and feel of these shoes. I'm never super fond of the shape and the overall look of Altra shoes but I am very happy with these so far.

I tried the Rivera when it first came out and thought it was the worst shoe that Altra had ever offered: narrow, thick tongue, low volume toe box. For some reason I decided to try this new version and am so very glad that I did! Even though it is the "slim" model I was thrilled to find that there is plenty of toe room. None of the issues I had with the first version are present in this newest Rivera. I have run in it only 4.5 miles, but so far it is very comfortable and seems lighter that the 8 pounds 6 ounces shown on my scales for a size 9.5. It is cushy enough to handle gravel roads. My only complaint is the laces: too short to use the last eyelet or even double tie (they come untied immediately unless double tied). It seems impossible to find laces that match the original, so this is a bummer IMO.

These are very different from the Rivera 2s--which I love. These aren't for me. These seem like Hokas. They almost have a "rocker" sole and overall a lot of volume in the sole. I have to agree with other reviewers that it's becoming impossible to find any meaning in the show name since they keep changing the construct with new versions.

These are my 3rd pair of Altras and I'm disappointed. The laces are so short it's hard to tie them. And they untie while running because there just isn't enough lace to make the knot tight enough. Customer service suggested I buy new laces. So much research is done on these shoes and the product is faulty. I shouldn't have to buy new laces for brand new and expensive running shoes. Shoes are narrower than my old Torins and Lone Peaks but are still comfy. Love Altras but customer service get a zero.

I was looking for a wider toe box than most sneakers, what I got was a narrower sneaker than I already have.

Idk how to rate these because on one hand, i love them. They are sooo comfortable and i haven't had any problems with my feet or any pain since wearing these and breaking them in.. but on the other hand.. I've had them since the beginning May 2023. It is now July 31 2023, And the soles look like I've had them for over a year, idk, maybe I'm wrong and they're supposed to be worn down like this after 2 months? For the price, i feel like they should've lasted longer. I went from Brooks Ghost 13 to Altra Riviera 3 because they were around the same price and i had had my Brooks for awhile(almost 2 years of everyday use) i needed new shoes and i wanted to try the wider toe box. Like i said, they're great, i love them, but I'm not sure if i want to spend more money on buying these every other month because the soles are going out so soon or just stick with something else. So I'm torn here.
I really want to try the Torin 7 next but I'm not sure what to do.
If I'm wrong, then okay, the shoes still have more to go before the sole is worn off and I'm just overreacting. But if this is a problem with anyone else, it should probably be fixed. I wear these everyday. I walk a lot at work. Indoor and outdoor, i don't feel like the amount of walking i do in the 2 months I've had these would've caused the soles to be worn down that much already tho.

Gorgeous color and really cute sneaker overall. The toe bed feels spacious without being too wide. The heel hits pretty high and is quite narrow/tight. I'd recommend going half a size up to accommodate.

These shoes were extremely comfortable to run in. However, I just find them not attractive at all. The shape, the colors, and the big sole is not my taste at all.

Don't buy this, it is way too small and the price is just too expensive for a piece of junk. I had to send it back.

It's a beautiful shoe, but had to send it back, it felt very small. I own 2 pairs of Altras and love them. With this o e though the sizing was way off.

As with most Altra's, I wear a size up in the Rivera's. I have had to pairs of the original Rivera, but the Rivera 3 is significantly more narrow than the previous models. Unfortunately I ran in these outside so cannot return them. I'm hoping to use them as a walking shoe if I can figure out how to stretch them a bit. The cushion and overall feel is as expected, just too narrow!

I don't understand why on earth shoe companies insist on completely changing the footprint of a shoe with a new model. I purchased the Rivera 3s because I liked the Rivera 2s, not because I wanted to try a completely different shoe. The Rivera 3s are so much narrower than the 2s that I'm unable to run in them. I guess the endless cycle of finding a shoe that I like just in time for the manufacturer to discontinue it or completely change it has begun again.

I bought these running shoes 4 months ago and have run in them on average 2-4 times per week since. They run like a dream. But the back of the shoe comes up too high and shreds my ankles. I've tried band-aids, anti-blister tape and usually wear running socks with high backs to them. I thought I'd finally gotten used to them and then today I did a 3-mile run with normal running socks with a lower back and my ankles were bleeding before I even got to mile 3. This is absurd. I limped back to my car. Anybody have a rec for a shoe that runs as good as these without that bad design in the back??

I am a die hard Altra fan and have cycled multiple styles and versions of the Lone Peaks for hiking, so when I transitioned to running these were my first choice. While the are comfy, the quality seems to be subpar. The mesh has torn in the toe crease on both shoes, and the yellow rubber part of the soles are peeling off which has actually caused me to trip. I only run about 15 miles a week and have had these for less than 6 months.
