Let me start by saying I love Hoka and ONLY wear Hoka. I wear the Rincon for every day walking but use the Clifton 8 for running and racing. Was so excited when the Clifton 9 came out. I wore them once and noticed the ball of my foot was burning, too much movement in the toe box. I usually wear a wide so I figured maybe I would try the regular...too narrow. I decided to try another run in the 9. When I got home (5 miles) I had a blister between my big toe and 2nd toe. My sister also wears Clifton 8 to run. She got a massive blister between her 2nd and 3rd toe. Problem is the toe box is too wide and my feet slip around too much...trying the regular width did not help. I packed them up and sent them back and ordered 2 pair of Clifton 8.

I've been on a journey to try to get myself a pair of Hoka Cliftons for about a year now. My interest peaked when the pastel hue line came out and I fell in love with the Clifton 8 green color. I ordered myself a 8 and an 8.5 because that's what I usually am in athletic shoes. Both were too small/tight and the return process was a nightmare so I gave up for a little bit. Fast forward to the release of the Clifton 9. This time I ordered my usual 2 sizes but this time in Wide to see if that was going to help. Tell me why these run so incredibly large? I had to size down to a 7.5 Wide just for the length of the shoe to fit me properly. I have never been anything smaller than an 8 in shoes. I still have yet to be refunded for this return as well and will probably have to go through the same excruciating process to get my money back.
Overall I'm really upset that my foot just isn't meant for these shoes. They're truly so comfortable and I think they're super cute, but I can't justify the price if they aren't fitting me properly..

I ordered 2 pairs of the Clifton 9's the first day they were released. Loved the color choices and was extremely excited for them to arrive. I wear my Clifton 8's every day for my morning workout and afternoon walk around the neighborhood. I've tried to convince everyone I know to buy a pair of Hokas because of those shoes. They're just the best!!
The 9's are really terrible! The cushioning feels different, and significantly harder than the 8's. The heel sits lower on the 9's than on the 8's. And, the worst part, the ankle area rises higher and rubs the entire shaft of my ankle. Ouch!
Hoka, I wear your shoes religiously and shout your praises to everyone I know. These 9's missed the mark, please go back to the drawing board for the 10's and make them more like the 8's and 7's.

No arch support with this style. By the end of my shift, my heels ached. I had to request a refund

Hola recommended these to me for cross training. They are way too soft and totally unstable for anything with weights.

I have 8-9 pair of Clifton 8's. And they ruined a great shoe. I tried them for a couple weeks & finally returned them. They are firmer in the sole, not comfortable at all like the Clifton 8. I don't know why they ruined a good thing & changed the 9 so dramatically. Its more of a pointed toe than the 8's. As long as they still sell the Clifton 8's, they'll be my go to shoe.

The Clifton 9 felt too oversized for my preference. I didn't like the thickness, and the shoe felt like it ran big compared to the Clifton 8. I was disappointed.

I've been a Hoka customer for about 3 years now and purchase a new shoe ever 2-3 months. I run about 4-5 times a week in my Hokas. I typically buy the Clifton 8s, but thought I'd try the 9s. I'm not a huge fan - the Clifton 9s hit higher up on my ankle causing chafing because my socks don't go up that high. I also don't feel like the cushioning is as robust as the 8s. Overall, I'm not happy with the purchase.

Compared to the 8 these are less plush and springy in the step, more narrow, and lower in height in the footbed. I have high arches and the top of my foot was constantly rubbing on the top of the shoe and irritating my feet. Feet would be in pain after my shifts, never had this issue with clifton 8

I had to return both pair the toe box was so wide my feet slide around and I am plus size so I feel that they would be even wider for a smaller frame body type.

Shoe only comes in whole sizes. Needed a 8
And half narrow . Had been trying to wear 9's for a few years and discovered could buy an8 1/2 N by another manufacturer. Would be helful for Hoka sizes to be more inclusive.

I am a loyal Hoka customer but these were so disappointing. I ordered the all white and the material is like a paper towel. It like it is about quantity now instead of quality!

This is not it, Hoka. The 9's lack cushion and comfort. The tongue is lacking in the cushion that the 8's had, digging into the top of the foot. The footbed feels equivalent to walking around on yoga blocks not providing the comfort of the previous iteration. A total miss.

The colors are awful and the same colors should be available in wide. I would love to purchase them but will not be doing so until you make a color I would even consider wearing. Not all women like pink!

This style runs big! At least 1/2 to 3/4 size to big. It also hurt the inner sides of my feet probably because they fit differently than a real 8.5 D.
I returned after 2 runs & actually fell on my first run probably because of how they ran bigger & didn't fit right. I hurt my kneecap bad & out of exercise & running for at least 2-3 weeks.
I love Hoka & worn over 15 years but now I'm stuck because my size is out where I buy my shoes & I need the D width.
I would recommend Hoka but just not the NEW Clifton 9.
I've loved all my others & especially the 8.
TRY ON FIRST! Maybe a 1/2 size smaller than usual. I haven't tried that yet because of my fall & I can run right now.

This shoe was painful to wear. The heel/back of the shoe is rock hard, no give. So uncomfortable, I can tell where it would rub already. I wore it for a couple minutes and now my foot is aching.
I'd also recommend:
I love Hokas, I wear this model (Clifton) but will not buy the Clifton 9 again!

I love my Hokas so this review is very painful for me to write. I just got my Clifton 9's today and I will be sending them right back, they just aren't comfortable on my feet. I have wide feet, and have at least one pair of every shoe offered by Hoka in a wide, so I ordered my usual 8.5 wide. I had on my Hoka socks that I wear with all my shoes no problem, and the shoes felt painfully tight even with the laces loosened. I switched to thinner socks and they were still tight in the toe box where Hokas normally aren't. The bottom of my feet started to hurt, and my right heel began to hurt where they had not been hurting previously; my feet were screaming at me. I could immediately tell pain and suffering were in my future if I kept these shoes. I absolutely love my Clifton 8's, comfy right out of the box with no issues, and had even just had them on right before trying these on and can tell a huge difference. These just aren't for me, sadly, and for being labeled as "plush" I am scratching my head because Bondi it is not.
