I love the coat. It's actually very warm and behaves like you would think a North Face product would behave, as NF is a quality product. The reason for the deduction in stars is because of the Velcro used in the flap to cover the zipper. If you DON'T use the flaps to cover the zipper then the velcro has a tendency to catch the cotton material on the wrist of the coat. I have had this coat for about two months and the wrist cuffs look VERY worn because of this flaw. The soft cotton material frays and looks horrible on an otherwise new coat. It almost makes me want to return the coat for a different product.

This is a good cold weather winter jacket, but they added too many Velcro straps and it gets stuck to everything. It gets stuck to th sleeve cuff every time and causes the fabric to look worn out. I just bought this jacket and it already beat up if I don't fold the cuff under.

The jacket is warm and fits nicely. The issue I have is the sleeve around my wrist. My wrist keep getting stuff on the Velcro and it so bad that I have warned the jack 5 time that wrist material is starting to fray. That is a bad design. Wrong material or wrong Valcro

I genuinely love The North Face. It's a leading outdoor brand and builds very quality products. The setback of this one is that the Velcro self-grip strips. I don't always zip up my jacket, so during movements the self-grip strip get caught with the eslatic cuffs by accident (happens often) and therefore ripping out the material. I didn't know until having worn for about a week. I'd not have purchased if I had known.

This jacket has a major design flaw in 2024 make the cuffs on either sides rub against the Velcro beside the main zipper panel, causing pilling / roughness on on cuffs. It turned ugly even after mild use. Please provide a fix or compensate.

Where do I start? The parka is warm and well-insulated for cold weather, but it suffers from serious design flaws. The Velcro at the cuffs gradually tears them apart, almost as if it were a built-in self-destruct feature. Over time, the cuffs become completely unusable. Worse still, while it's normal for your hands to feel dry or cracked in the cold, the pocket zippers on this jacket are incredibly abrasive. I've actually cut my hands multiple times just reaching into the pockets to the point where I avoid wearing this jacket altogether. Instead, I've switched back to other gear from The North Face that's treated me much better. I don't know if newer versions have addressed these issues, but my experience with this generation of the McMurdo Parka has been disappointing and frustrating.

Great jacket for the most part. Upon opening it the was a slit across the front of the jacket. Tried to exchange it was told I can get a refund and repurchase! Not worth the hassle, sadly it was a gift !

Received this coat as a Christmas gift. Its cuffs keep getting caught on the Velcro parts of the coat fraying them. Will take to a seamstress next time to have them remove the Velcro.

Pros: fits great, very warm. Cons: down fill sheds a lot; there is a zipper cover that is Velcro and sticks to everything, including the waistband, armband and your clothes, it's pulling the fabric apart, and looks very used after only a few wears; the inside of the zipper pulls at clothes worn underneath and damaged my sweater.

I love this jacket but I have returned it twice and will not buy another one until they make this change. The velcro they use at the front closing is too powerful and sticky. It pulls everything it touches from the collars of the jacket and my sweater. It causes really bad piling on both. I really wish they just remove the velcro and put the buttons back.

Expect more from this jacket. First flaw I found was that there is no draw string in at bottom or middle of the jacket. Unless it's a perfect fit the wind will sail up inside the coat from the bottom this is why it needs a draw string. Second flaw is the button down removable fur around the hood. If you leave it on during a winding winter day and have your hood up the wind goes through the buttons around the hood. It actually redirects the wind into your face. Needs zipper or fulll velcro attachment. I'm going to have the fur sewed on and a draw string put in.

I bought this same coat 8 years ago. It was great back then. I just bought it again recently because i loved the quality of the construction of my older coat. Unfortunately the quality of this coat now is terrible . The fabric is thin and cheap even the fill is poor. Not nearly as warm as the older one. I question the 600 fill claim. This is not what I would expect from Northface. I'm going to keep my older version of this coat, even in the current heavily used condition it is still better than the new one. I'm definitely returning the new one.

The jacket fits very well, it's very warm and very lightweight. The major drawback is the selection of some materials. The flap that protects the front zipper has 4 Velcro straps (not micro Velcro which would have been fine) which catch on all winter clothing and sweaters, ruining them. Not only that, but it also ruins the cuffs of the jacket, which are made of a very delicate elastic that easily catches on any material, causing holes. Previous versions of the jacket had buttons instead of Velcro, so they didn't catch on anything, offering better durability. I recommend using buttons, magnets, or micro Velcro for future iterations of the jacket. The side pockets have rigid zippers that can scratch the hands. It is also recommended to use buttons or magnets in this area, as in previous models. The connection of the hood fur to the jacket is also of inferior quality compared to previous models. Overall, it's a nice jacket but it ages in just two weeks of use due to the Velcro selection. The design seems inferior to previous models, with its price considerably higher. I do not recommend it.

I had an older version that used buttons on the front instead of Velcro. Now this one uses Velcro and has caused the cuffs on wrist to fray badly with less than a months usage.

It's a great looking jacket and very, very warm. Functionally, it's terrific, but like others have said, the velcro issue is really bad and not worth. Can't even return it because of the dmg.

This coat is warm & true to size however there is a design flaw. The material on wrist cuff keeps constantly getting snagged on the Velcro lined near the zipper. Making the wrist cuff look bad as if the coat is cheap or old.

Get the parka not this one. The velcro destroys the cuffs and waistband, Velcro was a terrible design choice. I bought this and the parka, I'd return this if I could.

Great look, poor design. The velcrow along the zipper attaches to the jacket cuffs and any sweater you wear underneath damaging the material. Ive worn the jacket 5 times and the cuffs are shredded. Sleeves are also too short (the next size up got baggier, but sleeve length didnt change).

Oak color and jacket warmth is nice- but the Velcro placement has ruined all my sweaters and the sleeves of the jacket itself. Pockets are also difficult to use. Poor design in these aspects.

The velcro on the jacket frequently catches on to the sleeves and the bottom of the jacket thereby fraying the material. North Face should consider using buttons instead.

The zipper cover velcro catches on the cuff material of the sleeves. After 1 month the jacket cuff looks worn and ugly. Currently trying to get a warranty claim on it. DO NOT BUY

Not super great. The waist doesn't seal well and it lets the cold in. The body of the jacket has no flexibility, so when you have the hood on and move your head around it cause the entire jacket on your body to move around. The velcro pads stick to the wrist cuffs and rip the material out. The only thing good about it is it's very warm.

I noticed a significant issue on the first day of using the jacket. The velcro sticks to parts of the jacket, which ruins them very quickly. Too expensive for it gets damaged that quickly.
