I would love to keep these hiking shorts--everything about them is perfect for my type of hiking. But this is another garment that's way over-sized. I could pull the shorts over my hips and off me without unsnapping the waist. Wish LL Bean would consider re-engineering petite and smaller woman sizing to actually fit us!

The first time I wore them the snap came off the button on waist. Retired without an issue.

I love the fit, the pockets and the lightweight material....BUT the material pills, alot! I am in the process of returning a pair from a 2021 order that the hem stitching is coming out of after only a month. During the return I noticed another review about the pilling and snags, so I decided to leave one too. $60 is expensive for shorts that only last about a year. The pills are on both legs of the inner thigh area. I have two pair, granite and sandstone, from a 2019 order. Both are completely pilled on the inner thigh area. I don't know if the 2021 material will hold up better (only time will tell), but the hem stitching coming out is not a good sign.

Did not like quality of material (very thin), height of waistband, double snaps on waistband instead of (repositionable) buttons. Returning for refund.

I was a little disappointed in these shorts. They are loose but yet the snap top button fell off. Of course I bought them in January and just wore them today and the button snap was gone. Sad

Not true to size. Waist too big and no ability to adjust other than to wear a belt. Will not purchase again.

The seams around the zipper pockets have popped open because not enough material was left beyond the stitching (I sew a lot and know things). It is just beyond 1 year since I purchased them so there is no return. I will no longer spend that much money for not acceptable long term quality!

These were too short, boxy & generally not flattering. Probably great for a hike, but was looking for something that could also skew towards a wider variety of activities/occasions.

I ordered 2 more of these shorts in granite, as I love the pair I've had for a couple of seasons. Originals fit fine, new ones are too small and a very different cut. Back they're going. I've had no success with LLB this year: everything has been poorly sized, oddly cut, or of cheap fabric. I thought I could re-order something I had which I like, but that is also not true. Order at your own risk.

I've ordered this shorts over the years and tried them again....the overall design and quality of the shorts had deteriorated. The material is so thin and they were not true to size....sent this back and will not order again.

I great hopes for these shorts and had planned on hiking, or riding on bike with these on. After receiving the shorts, it did not take long to return them. Too big, and way too thin. I am so disappointed in Bean. The quality of Bean's clothing has steadily decreased. I just cannot buy any more clothing from Bean's. Bring back the Bean quality clothing.

I purchased the vista shorts last season (size 18) and loved them even though I am usually size 16 ......this season I lost 20 pounds and the 18 was much too large so I purchased a 14 and a 16 to see which would fit. Inexplicably the 16 was very tight in the waist while the 18 from last year is much too big..... disappointing that the sizing varies so wildly from year to year with these shorts

Bot these to go on a month long trip that would involve a great deal of hiking. Had a pair from last year that I loved and wore constantly. I decided to spend what I consider a lot of money for a pair of shorts and ordered a different color. When these arrived I immediately noted the fabric was extremely thin and lightweight. I wore then for one hike which was 2 hours long. When I returned I noticed the bottom of the leg was badly frayed. It was in the middle of the front of the leg, directly over my thigh. Nothing had rubbed on the shorts and I am a size 2 so it's not that they were too tight. I also ordered a pair of the long pants which have not frayed but I only wore them once. The ripstop fabric from last year was far superior in quality. I am most disappointed LL Bean chose such an inferior material that can not withstand use. These are going back, along with the pants. They are not up to the standards we have all come to expect from LL Bean.

My waist is 27". Your size chart claims that a size 8 waist is 27.5" The ACTUAL waist for the size 8 is 32.5". The size chart says that a size 10 waist is 28.5". the ACTUAL waist for the size 10 is 34". The size chart claims a size 6 waist is 26.5". the ACTUAL waist for the size 6 is 31". Actual measurements. ONE discrepancy might be a mistake, THREE discrepancies, in about the same amount, are NOT. I am extremely disappointed that your size chart does not match reality. I like the shorts, but I can't wear them.

I bought 2 pair of these shorts when my favorite Comfort Trail shorts were backordered. What a huge disappointment. The waist and length were fine-legs were so blousey!! They almost seemed like culottes. The fabric was light and that was ok. It was the extreme loose legs that made me return both pair.

Based on the great reviews I was looking forward to wearing these shorts and long pants for hiking, camping, canoeing, etc. The fabric is SUPER light weight - in fact pretty unsubstantial, more like lingerie!! Nothing between me and a rock :) Also, when I'm hiking etc, I'm working hard - and sweating. This fabric shows wet pretty dramatically. I got the shorts in granite, the long pants in sandstone - both had that problem. The waistband is too big, so they slip down. I think the entire garment would stretch significantly with any use. I'm 5'4", 138 lbs, active. They are going back!

I was sure I would love these shorts based on the reviews. I'm a sturdy, short gal and ordered my regular size 14. They were comfy from the start but I thought they might stretch and be too big so I ordered some in size 12. I wore them around the house and they pulled in the pocket area. Plus, because they were a touch snug, when I sat in them, they became badly wrinkled with permanent creases. They didn't stretch! Gave the size 14 another try and wore them several hours while working on the computer. They kept stretching, and stretching and stretching until they now almost look like a skort - super wide legs and floppy waistband. The fabric is lightweight and doesn't feel sturdy in the least for an active short. I like the length, zipper pockets, and colors, but back they all go. I wish LLBean would use the same fabric as their men's shorts.

Lets pretend I'm a guy (I'm not) who likes to hike. I would want TOUGH shorts! Why do we girls have to put up with "girlie" outdoor clothing? The design of these shorts is good, practical. However, the fabric feels like ladies underwear! I mean, how lightweight do we need? I want tough and crunchy, not limp and insubstantial. Obviously I'm returning the shorts. But please hear me. There must be other women out there who don't want to wear underwear shorts on the trails.
