I needed something that will allow me to safely stow a smart phone when we're at amusement parks and other places where carrying a purse isn't convenient. These shorts work, but it's a tight squeeze. If the side pockets were just a centimeter larger vertically, they would be perfect. My husband never has this problem because manufacturers realize that men don't carry purses and they design clothing accordingly. I think many women would appreciate having larger zippered pockets because carrying a bag during active pursuits can be annoying. Also, having a key clip in one of the front pockets would be handy.

I ordered these shorts mainly because of the fabric which is supposed to be good for travel/wrinkles. However, after I tried them on I'm not so sure I like the way they fit. They have some sort of weird piece/patch sewn into the crotch which doesn't seem to lay completely flat and bunches up in between my legs. I folded them a different way and am hoping that after keeping them folded this way for a while it will help with the weird bunching. I am disappointed with the fit because I really like the grey color and the feel of the fabric seems like it would be great for travel. I will give it some time and see if I need to return them.

Really liked the description of these pants. They're light weight and perfect for travel. Unfortunately, they looked awful when worn. The pant legs are so baggy that you could probably fit both legs into one pant leg. The waist and hips fit fine, just wished the pant legs were narrower. Had the same issue with the full length Comfort Trail Pants.

I own one pair from last summer, and came to buy another ( in sandstore) last week, along with the (better-looking) Comfort Trail Short in Ash.
These are whisper-light and expensive, so for me just a walking short, or other light-duty activities for our blistering Florida summers. As others have mentioned, if you're hiking or need more protection these are not the garment for you. They also do show sweat, which is less appealing. They do dry quickly, as they should.
Had to ship back the Comfort Trail shorts due to cut, and now have 2 pairs of these Vista Trek shorts. It's a shame the color choices are so limited, and that they are so expensive. I love the longer length, but otherwise vastly prefer my 15 pairs of Royal Robbins Backcountry Short.

I like the fabric and styling of these shorts. Wash and dry nicely. Comfortable and quick drying. Waist is way too large - almost 2 inches! I didn't try smaller size, because I like the fit through the hips. I wear my shirt untucked so the large waist isn't too obvious. If you're thinking about buying these shorts - order your usual size and one smaller.

I liked the looks and material but the smallest size is too large for me.
I am 5' tall and weigh 98lbs. I have a hard time finding clothes that fit. I wish the clothes were manufactured smaller to fit people like me.
Many years ago I used to be size 4 or 5. Now I have to find petite xsmall or size zero to have a chance. I did not shrink.

I really like the light weight and movability of these shorts and pants, especially in warm or hot weather. But after trying on the size I usually wear, I was quite dismayed to see how sheer the seat was for both the shorts and pants. Although the hips, waist, and rise were comfortable, and I could move freely in them, a quick view in the mirror showed that very little was left to the imagination. I thus tried on the next size and felt that I was far less exposed. I bought both shorts and pants in the larger size and have resigned myself to having to wear a belt (or to stitch the waistband, if I ever get around to it).

These shorts sounded wonderful based on reviews and from the image on the model. I am 5' 2" and about 127 pounds and can wear a size 4 or 6 normally. These shorts were oversized and proportionally too big. I ordered the 6 and thought that they seemed like a very roomy 6 even if worn by a taller woman. The fabric was nice and the style was attractive. But, I am returning them.

Nicely made but way too small around the waist compared to another pair I bought from you.

The fabric is very thin and I found these shorts to be clingy in the hips, yet the legs are somewhat wide. I'm 5'2', but these were shorter on me than is pictured on the model. I was hoping for a good everyday pair of shorts that I could carry my cell phone in, but I would only wear these if I were going to spend a long day in a canoe or kayak, if I had lots of
sunscreen on my bare knees. They are being sent back.

Nice shorts that fit well and are made of a nice breathable fabric. Unfortunately they are not put together very well as the zipper has already started separating from the pocket. I will be returning these in hopes of finding something more durable for my hiking adventures.

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
I really wanted these shorts to work. I’ve been searching a replacement for Columbia PFG shorts to use when walking, biking, hiking, etc. The quick dry fabric, elastic-free waist and 9” length were perfect (a 5” inseam isn’t for everyone). Sadly, the legs are very wide and stand out like a skirt - very unflattering. I prefer a slimmer leg and therefore returned these. The search continues!

I am very disappointed. i have other llbean pants, all size 12 and they fit well. These shorts are way bigger in waist. I'm not ordering a size smaller because i fear that also would be too big. Back they go. fabric seems great and style seems good. But order size carefully!

Love the fit, easy care fabric, just what I was looking for BUT who makes trekking shorts with front pockets that are fake.

These are great shorts BUT they are pilling like mad and I have only had them for about a week! The front of the thighs on both legs is all pilled and rough, like someone rubbed coarse sandpaper along them. It's really weird; I've never seen anything like it. My husband has these shorts in the men's version and has had them for years. they are perfect. This is something with the women's fabric, I think. LL Bean is being great and allowing me to exchange for a new pair. But I hope the new ones don't have the same problem because I really like these shorts--nice and loose, lightweight, quick drying, big zipper pockets. But the pilling is ridiculous.

I thought these shorts were really comfortable and they were my go to shorts last summer. However, I quickly noticed there was terrible pilling on the inner leg/crotch area. I would love to wear these again this summer but the pilling is just so bad I won't!

I wanted to love theses shorts, as they fit me well and I liked the style. However, after wearing them only twice (casually, not hiking or anything harsh on them) the material snagged and had small runs on the edges. For the price and the brand, I expected much higher quality. I returned them.

I've been wearing the shorts for two months and love the comfort and functionality. However, the material is not holding up well. On the backside of the shorts, the material is very worn and has "nibbles". I haven't seen compla8nts from anyone else so perhaps mine is a defect. When I called Customer Service, they have offered to replace them so we will see how this pair holds up to wear. I even wash them inside out.

I absolutely love how these shorts fit, I love the pockets, and I thought I loved the fabric. I do love the fabric, but i noticed after the first couple of times i wore them, a couple of what i thought were snags. I continued to wear them, and now they are covered in pills. Pills and snags. I don't normally pay $60 for a pair of shorts, and i can say I'm disappointed. I have cargo shorts that cost a third of the price that are still fine after three years. I'm debating whether I should return them and get some credit towards a new pair. Maybe that color had a problem.

I love the fit of these shorts. I love the practical zip pockets which are hard to come by on women's shorts. But the fabric is not very durable. I have worn these shorts once or twice and they have fuzzy or snagged spots all over them. And I have not even worn them hiking, I do not think they would hold up. I have been a Bean customer for years but I am very disappointed in the fabric of this product!
