While the fit is good and the product is comfortable I have found that the back of the shoe above the heel is too flexible and I can't step into it without it bending thus necessitating the use of a shoe horn to get it on. I'll stick with the Sperry Topsider from now on.

My favorite shoe in the whole wide world. So why the 3 vs 5?? The shoe I have of the same model was made in Vietnam. The pair just received of the same model were made in San Salvador. The Vietnam shoe is superior in every way. Firmer leather, nice padding around the ankle. A well made, long lasting shoe. I don't suspect my San Salvadorian model will last a third as long.

Found it difficult to get laces loose enough to not dig into top of foot. Like the looks and hope they'll continue to break in and flex a bit more. Good fit in toe and width.

While these shoes look nice and are comfortable to walk on, they are very uncomfortable on my bare feet in the toe area. The size is fine but the leather is quite rough. In the warmer months I always wear my boat shoes without socks. I received these in early May and have worn them almost daily since then and they haven't improved. I have two pairs of Sperry boat shoes. One pair cost a bit less than these LL Bean shoes and one a bit more, but both were comfortable to wear bare footed from the day I got them. I've gone back to wearing my Sperry shoes but have started to look for a toe insert for my LL Bean boat shoes that will make them comfortable enough to wear without socks.

I liked the overal fit of the shoe, but the leather seemed prone to scratching easily and was already scuffed and with some scratches when it arrived.

I wear my boat shoes barefoot. The new shoe is comfortable enough on the sole but quite uncomfortable in the tongue area. It will have to improve quite a bit after break-in or I will be disappointed.

I have owned three pairs of these shoes in the past 10 years. They are very comfortable right out of the box. The hand stitching is excellent. However, the machine stitching starts to break and unwinds at the heal, sides and across the top of the tongue. This starts during the second year of wear. I would not purchase them again.

these shoes are well made and good looking; however, for me, they were
uncomfortable. the inside of the shoe just doesn't feel good on the bottom of my feet and it has not gotten better as they are worn.

The shoes looked fantastic and just what I wanted !! But when I got them they were so thin on materials !! The soles especially were so thin and flimsy that they hurt your feet walking on anything but padded carpet . The tongue on the shoes were a bit short for my comfort and liking as well . I was saddened that I had to send them back as there were the look I wanted but just not durable enough

First, the rating: it has to do with my feet and the width of this pair of shoes, not the quality of the shoe. When I first put the shoes on, I was happy. The second time, it was as though someone had stolen into my closet and stretched the shoes side to side. My feet slid around in them. In every other shoe I've gotten from LL, the size, 11 D/Med, was indeed a perfect fit. I have no clue what happened.

As far as boat shoes go, I find these MUCH better than Sperry and Sebago which have gotten awfully cheap. They run true to size (Sperry and Sebago run 1-1.5 sizes small in length and width) and the leather is higher quality. They are very comfortable the way BOAT SHOES are supposed to feel. My only gripe is the sole sticks out too far forward in the front and easily catches on carpet and peels under, stretching the stitching out which makes the situation degrade quickly. Engineer the sole a bit better and stitch it more firmly and this shoe will become the new benchmark boat shoe.

Overall a very nice, well made shoe, and I especially like the chocolate color, but I was looking for more support, which is the reason I preferred Sebago over Sperry. Very comfortable, but since I wear orthotics in my running shoes, this just doesn't have the rigidity and support that I would like.

For decades I have worn these shoes, they were discontinued from LLB for a few years and I resigned myself from being able to get them anymore. Recently they appeared in the catalog again, and I quickly ordered a pair. The new ones look exactly like the previous models but regrettably are not made from the same quality leather. The new pair is not as substantial. Hopefully this will be corrected. I have long been impressed with LLB quality.

Good quality but tight fit on right foot near toes causing discomfort. Don't know what to do. Same problem with a recently purchased snow sneaker. Other shoes ok so I think it's them. Please advise me on how to resolve this. First time ever had an issue with Bean footwear. Longtime customer.

These are good boat shoes. Openings are a little wide for when you are wearing them, and therefore do not look as high of quality shoes. I have had these for about 8 months and a pair of brown Sperry's for 3 years. I would recommend the Sperry's over LLbean's boat shoes for anyone in the market. If you want to save some money though these are a good alternative.

I have worn these for years. Of course not the same pair. These shoes last for one year with regular use. Based upon my last three pairs usually the stitching fails first, then the sole splits causing the shoe to leak on damp ground then the sole separates from the shoe. I have had Sperry boat shoes last much much longer but I like the looks of these better for work. I just bought another pair today online but I know I will need another pair next year. I'm in New England so they probably only really last for 9 months.

I've been wearing LL Bean boat shoes for twenty years. The quality has declined significantly over the past ten years. These have softer leather than ten years ago. While initial comfort is ok these do not mold to the foot the way their harder leather boat shoes once did. I expect these to last a couple of summers tops. Unfortunately, will have to look elsewhere in the future. Size: barefoot get a half size smaller.

I have been buying these for years and will likely continue to do so. I like the look and the fit. What I don't like is that they need to be replaced just about yearly. The rubber soles become hard and brittle. Eventually they split causing them to leak and as the rubber hardens they become slippery on some surfaces.

I love the look of the shoe, however there is no inner cushioning and my feet were sore by the end of the day

I'm currently waiting for my third exchange for size. The size 12 (my normal size) I originally ordered was too big, the size 11 exchange was too small and hopefully the size 11.5 will be a satisfactory fit.

The left shoe was brand new. The right shoe was worn, stretched out, and scuffed.

Quality is excellent, sizing is wrong. Needed to order a full size smaller than my usual size.

Sizes run quite large! I normally wear a size 11 but the size 11 were too big. I then ordered a size 10.5 and guess what? Size 10.5 was too big. I ordered a size 10 and fortunately the size 10 fits fine. Perhaps L.L.Bean would like to re-evaluate its shoe sizes??? Hint? Oh! And yes, I had to pay for the extra shipping to return the mislabeled shoes.
Additionally inside the shoe at the junction of the upper flap with the side flaps the stitching was with a VERY coarse thread. So coarse that it irritated my foot to no end. Hence buy some moleskin to cover up this irritating flaw. Now the shoe fits fine.
Do not get me wrong, the shoe is a beautiful shoe it just is incorrectly sized as well as having the most irritating thread knot at a most inconvenient place.

They're uncomfortable if you don't wear socks. Thick stitching creating rough edges inside

I liked the style of the Casco Bay Boat Mocs and ordered a pair online with my usual 9 1/2 shoes size. However, when I tried them on it was clear that they were too big. I returned them and re-ordered with a size 9. They were still too big as I was walking out of them. I visited an L.L. Bean store in Wareham Ma to see if they had a better size for me. The store had a very limited inventory for this style. I since gave up and returned the shoes for credit.
