My first pair of Altra. Loved the Hoka Speed Goat 4 but it was discontinued. I think I found my new brand.

Love these. Heel locks in and my forefoot and toes have a ton of room. Have done multiple 20+ mile hikes in the Sierras with these and zero issues.

For trail running, they are amazing. The grip and traction over rocks and dirt was top notch and gave me a lot of confidence to really go for it on the down hill turns and hairpins.

Really like these shoes. Prior to running them I was using Hokas. Big difference in how long they last vs. the Hoka. I’ll definitely buy more pairs.

The Olympus has become my go to shoe when I want to really baby my feet... Great cushioning with a bit of rock to help you along. I've even used it on road runs when my feet are particularly beat up and need a smooth recovery run. Continues to be my post marathon drop bag shoe. Also surprisingly nimble for so much shoe and can hold its own through the techy trail.

While the Olympus is billed as a trail shoe, I find it meets my needs both for trail and for road running. I love the amount of cushion, and I am so happy that the Olympus 5 still is available in a wide version, which feels best to my feet, even though my foot is not traditionally considered "wide." I have to mention one more thing, and that is the excellent customer service that Altra provides. I had a problem with an Altra hiking boot, and the Altra customer service team went out of its way to make me feel satisfied.

I usually prefer lower cushion models like the Escalante or superior when it comes to running. This shoe changed my perspective. All of the cushion in this shoe feels great underfoot and the original footshape makes it nice and roomy.

Way more durable than my previous pair of an older Timp model. Also love the high vis orange, reminds me of Big Buck Hunter. Chicks dig it.

I have multiple pairs of Olympus 4's and have loved them, so I was eager to get my foot in the 5. I was not disappointed! Fit nearly identical to the 4 which I love. The original foot shape fit has quickly become one of my favorites from Altra. The Vibram megagrip outsole continues to give great grip as well.

The Altra brand has saved my feet! After suffering a neuroma then having the nerve removed I thought my hiking days might be over. While planing for the Tour du Mont Blanc, a 100 mile Alpine trek, I tried the Lone Peaks and found the fit to be excellent, but they allowed too much "trail feel" through the footbed, so I gave the Olympus 5 a try. Eureka! The Olympus 5 feels like it has a more robust footbed, and is not overly cushy for Alpine trekking. I still use my Lone Peaks for trail running, but only the Olympus for trekking with 20 lb. pack.

Having run in multiple iterations of Olympus now, I was very excited for this model to come out. It gives me the same great feeling underfoot with when I want more cushion, while still allowing me to feel very stable. The Vibram outsole gives me confidence on all types of terrain & I know that I will stay locked down throughout the duration of my workout. The upper feels very durable, I know that I will get a ton of miles out of this shoe whether I'm training, racing, hiking, or even just wearing them around town during errands. I have been very pleased with the Olympus 5 thus far, and I am excited to continue wearing them for many more miles!

This shoe can handle anything! Tons of comfy cushion, Vibram outsole with great grip, and space for my toes to breathe and deal with any long run swelling. This shoe can do it all!

Improved fit with business as usual traction and security underneath. The 5 feels true to size and the cushion allows me to feel refreshed and recovered the next day after a long run. Definitely would recommend the 5!

If you liked the Olympus 4, you'll like the 5...I think the 5 upper is a bit nicer and it maybe even looks a bit better as well, and the attempt at mid and heel lock down is appreciated, even though the weight gain wasn't. AND I am in the camp of hating that minimal tongue or whatever you want to call it...in a beefy shoe like that, what is this vain attempt at thinning in the tongue? It's a wide shoe and needs a bit more tongue padding to make it more versatile for different fits and lace tightness for people. Seriously, that tongue is ridiculous on the Olympus. But nonetheless I warmed eventually to the 4 and have found my lacing happy place, and even got multiple pairs, and the 5 is a solid next step if just a partial and heavier one while keeping tongue weirdness. I know people have mentioned the laces, and they are shortish...I swap out all my shoes with elastic lock laces, so it doesn't really matter to me, but yes the 5s laces are on the short side...so were the mid boots laces (which I also replaced with boot length lock laces). All told, the Olympus 4 and 5 versions got me back to multiple pairs of Olympus in my closet...the last time that was true was with the 2.0...yes that long ago! I think these new ones fit more 'neutral' compared to some of the Olympus versions, which is important to this supinator, plus they are built better and look better. I am fairly sensitive to pronation control shoes and these Olympus are ok in that regard...looking at the backs of them and that classic Olympus build up of midsole stuff on the medial heel freaks me out, but wearing them doesn't feel that drastic thankfully. But if you're a supinator you will want to test drive that for yourself as that can be a wonky feeling, in a trail shoe especially. Happy trails everyone..

I posted a review earlier expressing disappointment with repeatedly receiving Olympus shoes that rip out at the inner forefoot upper within a month of use and they reviewed my concerns and replaced the shoe. So far the shoe has not caused the same problems. Other than the aforementioned defect, I love the shoe and appreciate that they replaced it for me.

Since I have a bunion on one foot, "normal" shoes are often too narrow. The roomy toe box on these bothers me not at all! I find the outsole to be very grippy on surfaces both wet and dry. They are light compared to my previous boots.

Removing the soft middle from the outsole make this the perfect shoe for all trails. This shoe feels terrific!

I'll be honest. I had not heard of this brand before, but to be fair, there is such a large market of different companies making trail running shoes. Nevertheless, I was blown away by the construction of the Olympus 5 from Altra. The materials used both in the outside and inside definitely is premium high quality. The cushion and support made my trail runs easier as I blazed through turns and up/down hills with confidence and increased speed. The soles are designed to be super grippy and I could tell even when I was on dry dirt, to mud, to small streams. In terms of distance, running long distances is an easy feat and short runs for speed was just as easy. Consider me a convert and I will purchase the Altra brand again in the future.

I love these shoes for trail running and walking. The foot shaped toe box is very comfortable. The Vibrams sole is soft and I get excellent traction off road. These are definitely a keeper and I'm excited to put a lot more miles on them!

The shoes are great. I have 70-year-old feet with heel spurs, but my feet feel new using these. I have Hokas, which are OK, but Altra are superior.
