My favorite all-around shoe from Altra (except the Cayd… Altra PLEASE?). Super comfortable, easy on/off, I wear them pretty much all day. Great for walking/hiking in addition to trail runs. Recommend highly.

I have tried a couple dozen shoes over the last couple years after 2 major surgeries on foot/ankle I finally found this shoe. It is the perfect fit and support, with comfort and good wear. Been wearing almost daily for about month or so. I use it daily on a production/retail work floor and on uneven farm terrain. I will be purchasing another pair. Fantastic job Altra! Worth every penny

First fit test right out of the box, It feels like the Lone Peak had a huge Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings and even went back for seconds. So yeah the Olympus is a plump beast of a shoe! Even with all its girth the Olympus 5 is well designed with plenty of breathable protection up top, grip on the outsole and has enough cushion for the longest of runs. Plus you gotta love that it has the original roomy foot shape. Out on the trail Its a grippy, balanced ride that starts off stiff n sluggish but after a few miles it breaks in, softens up and becomes much more comfortable underfoot. I did notice the weight of the shoe at first but faded away once the very satisfying max cushion made my later mile just cruise by. Oddly the Olympus 5 actually feels incredible and comes to life the longer the run. I can see this being a great option for a 100 miler or slower 100k. One issue I had early on was some heel lift and couldn't get a snug fit with the pillowly heel collar. Once broken in you will get a locked in feel.

I'm a female and I have wide feet and need ample room in the toe box, these men's shoes provide all of the aforementioned while remaining comfortable and rugged for street and trail wear.

I am a large guy who supinates his feet and has an unbalanced gait. These shoes make me feel confident with each stride. The max cushion, strong grip, and wide toe box are perfect for me.

We bought these before going to Disney World. I had no foot pain the whole time I was there I would definitely recommend these shoes to anyone with flat feet.

After buying Timps and Mont Blancs for a while, I switched back to Olympuses after a pair of Timps fell apart on me with just 100 miles or so on them. In the past, the Olympus has felt like a little too much cushion, but the newest version 5, which fits a bit more snugly, feels just right--no more feeling like I'm walking on platform shoes with them on. This is my second pair of the Olympus 5s, and the first are still holding up pretty well after 400 miles or so, which is really good for Altras (sadly, Altra has yet to consistently put out a shoe with no durability concerns), I just decided that with an ultra coming up in a couple of months I should probably start breaking in a new pair of shoes. I do have two minor quibbles about the shoes. First, although the loop in the back of the shoes makes them easy to get on and off, and the loop doesn't dig into the heel (a problem with past models of Olympus), the fact that the loop "leans" away from the heel also leaves the inside of the shoe much more open to leaves, rocks and other debris, so if you are running trails of pretty much any kind you probably need to run with gaiters. The second objection is just cosmetic: the grey/orange color combo looks pretty but the grey looks a lot lighter in real life than it does on the web site, so they start looking dirty very quickly--not that I mind getting dirty, just that the light grey-green color really looks like it's meant for a road shoe rather than something that's going to be trekked through the muck. The Olympuses are, for the moment at least, sadly lacking in the "dusty olive" color option that you can frequently find in their Timps and Lone Peaks--a color that looks like it was born to be run through the mud. Quibbles aside, these get two thumbs up.

I've been trying to purchase size 14 in the grey and black color for almost a year, and they have been out of stock. Id really like another pair but have been unable to find any.

My first Olympus was the 4 and I absolutely loved it as an all day shoe. I got into my first pair of 5s a little late in the game but I'm glad I did. I have several pairs now and (in my opinion) they improved on the foot support. I use them regularly on trails and almost always at work. I great shoe to stand up in and walk around all day.

As an older active person who has had both knee and hip total replacements this shoe is awesome. It provides the support and cushioning that prosthetic joints do not. The shoe is cool and very very comfortable. With out a doubt the best shoe I have tried and I have lots of unused trail shoes that didn't live up to there claims. Great job.

Rivera 3. I came across Altra shoes a few years ago when I was looking for a shoe that would not squash my toes. I tried: The Lone Peak, Timp, Solstice, Escalante, Superior, Outroad, Viho, although mostly comfortable they all were too wide and too loose for my low volume narrow foot (except for the Viho, but that was discontinued) The RIVERA 2 came close. Now the RIVERA 3 is absolute perfection . Altra, please create a shoe like the RIVERA 3 with the aggressive sole like the Lone Peak for hiking. My foot size is 8,5. I wear 9,5 in Altras.

This shoe works great for trail hikes. The wide toe box works well for me and provides a comfortable fit, and I get good traction on multiple types of surfaces. I actually use one pair for hiking and another pair for just casual around town wear. My only complaint is that the last two pairs of shoes came with laces that were too short to tie in double knots.

You have to size up with Altra products. My normal size is 9 1/2 Wide but in Altra I take 10 1/2. Support mid-foot is excellent. Zero drop is not for everyone but certainly works for me with my chronic knee dysfunction. I like them…

I hiked the Grand Canyon Rim to river to Rim hike in a day. I used the Olympus 5. Did it in just under 9 hours. Every part of my body was sore except for my feet. No blisters no achy feet. Love them

I'm using these for running on trails and dirt roads and I'm very happy with them. I have a woman's 2E or extra wide foot and the men's size 8.5 fit perfectly. (I am a size 9.5 in women's sizing.) These are the only runners I have found that are wide enough for my foot and comfortable to run in so for that reason I love them. I will order more. They are very stable running on uneven terrain. The cushion is supportive but not springy. This is not a fast shoe but it is a decent daily trainer on rocky Arizona roads and trails.
I'd also recommend:
