I recently had foot surgery, My Podiatrist recommended these for me. I have worn many, many different brands of athletic shoes. I wish I knew about these sooner ! Love the wider toe box. My feet feel great in these shoes.

I wore Escalantes for years for my road runs, but read the negative reviews in the Spring and opted for the Escalante Racer instead. Loved those for warm weather but I needed more coverage for the cold. I decided to give these a chance despite the reviews, and I love them! They feel great during my road runs and fit like all my other Altra's. The only change I would make is to add about an inch or 2 to the shoe laces. I'll definitely continue running in the Escalante!

Footbed really supports my arch and heel. Back of shoes does not rub or cause blisters. My toes like the roominess.

Onto my 2nd pair. These were a natural fit from the first run. Had the Escalante 2.5 prior to this but appreciate the extra cushioning the 3 offers in marathon training.

They are perfect! Plenty of room for my toes and hallux valgus (bunion). This is my third Escalante over 4 years, and I’d say the best yet

Shoe felt very comfortable and I walked three miles in them right away, with no problem. Have owned other Altras and always loved them.

Finally, a foot shaped shoe! Do you have options that have a more flexible sole? I purchased this one because it looked like it had the thinnest sole, if you have an even thinner one with the same toe room that would be great.

Altra runs small overall, and I had to go a half size up. The shoes are extremely comfortable and a good alternative for barefoot wearers looking for some cushion while running.

I have only worn Lone Peaks (13 pairs so farhuge fan), and this is my first pair of Escalantes. I don't have the 2.5 to compare to, and I completely understand what it's like to have a favorite then a company changes it on youhave absolutely been there and I agree that it is enragingso I empathize with those who liked the previous iterations but not this one. Being a first time Escalante wearer I can say that I have been overjoyed with foot happiness to have found this shoe. So very comfortable all day long. I haven't run in themonly worn them to work all day and for walking in the park. But I don't know how I've made it this long without them. Already eyeing two additional colors. I was hesitant that the slightly narrower footbed would t suit my feet since the slightly wider Lone Peak is perfect for me, but these worked just great. And the upper is cozy like a perfectly tailored, stretchy glove. Can't wait to wear them again. Plus they look great!

I've tried numerous running shoes and keep coming back to the Escalante. I prefer the 2.5 but the 3s will have to do. I side up 1/2 size. Would also prefer longer laces for the runners tie.

I was nervous about the fit of this shoe since online reviews mentioned how wide the fit was. I have a typical width foot and they did not feel too wide, but the toe box is roomy. The zero drop makes walking in them a little bit of an adjustment. I don’t like too squishy of a sole, they have a moderate amount of firmness which I find comfortable. They have quite a bit of arch support. I like the colors and they lace snugly without too much looseness that the fabric upper sometimes has.

New to Altra, I bought the Lone Peak first and loved them instantly. I live in Chicago so mostly run on pavement and the dirt track along the lakefront path, but am training for a trail half this fall. After a few runs in the Lone Peak I wanted a similar road shoe to not wear down the Lone Peak - the foot shape wider toe box immediately helped my second toe which would bruise constantly. I bought the Lone Peak in person so was wary about buying the Escalante online. I bought the same size (sized up from my non running shoe) and I love them - even though they're a little more narrow than the Lone Peak I can't tell a difference. My feet feel great, my toenail is healing. It didn't take me long to adjust to the zero drop but felt it a little bit. I'll never go back from Altra!

This review is for the Escalante 3. I have mild bunions on both big toes. Several years ago I discovered the Altra Lone Peak trail shoe and my feet fell in love with the super wide toe box/barefoot design. They quickly became my go to trail shoe but I find them to be a bit clunky to wear like a trainer/walking shoe. I recently found the Altra Escalante and it is just as dreamy to wear as the Lone Peak. I had zero foot pain after walking the equivalent of 5-6 miles 3 days in a row recently on concrete and cobblestone streets. Very supportive and plenty of room for my Fred Flintstone toes to spread out. The upper is stretchy, flexible and super breathable so which my bunions appreciated. Love the bright pink and orange combo on the ones I ordered. I also bought a cute pair of Sauconys at the same time and they're comfortable but don't have the super wide toe box- I need to give them a try but so far, the Altras feel better sop they get worn instead. Other reviewers commented that the toe box on the Escalante is narrower than past versions-to me, they feel consistent with the various Lone Peaks that I've had over the past 5 yrs. Would be nice if the shoe laces were a few inches longer. You can get in a double knot in the ones provided but it takes some effort because of the short length. Do note that I'm normally a size 9 in a day to day shoe however I have to size up a full size on all Altras that I've ever had. This is true for other running shoe brands, too, in my experience. Bottom line-love these shoes for running around the city.

I like this shoe. I was looking for a supportive road running shoe for my low volume, flattish feet, and this did the trick. At first I thought I needed to get a "support" shoe, but all the ones I tried for support felt like there were lumps under my feet. This has a surprising amount of support, even a bit like there's something underfoot when I'm running, but I can still feel the road. I have wide feet but this new last seems to fit me just fine. I've come to Altra road shoes after falling in love with my lone peak hikers for backpacking. My biggest complaint for Altra road shoes is that the color assortment available is downright unfortunate. It's as if they think women in the city don't care about how they look when they're running. My comment on color isn't isolated to this style. While it wouldn't be my first choice if I had an alternative, at least they offer a black and white plain version for the Escalante, though the shoe laces don't even match the shoe that well. My color feedback is offered towards the entire road line -- the Superior has a much better color selection. Can that be the goal for the road colors? Offering multiple light colors that will get dirty, or are just loud and unnecessarily bold isn't really filling the need for the consumer, and I think there are multiple complaints to that effect on here. I get that everyone has different tastes, but having a range that fills each of those needs would go a long way. I hope the merchants and designers are listening.

Love so much-esp the toe box and the counter(?)-the part of the shoe that comes up on the back of the ankle. So many shoes I cannot wear because this part irritates my ankle. This shoe gets it right-please never change this design!!

I was hobbled by inflammation in the balls of my feet and joints of my toes, but expensive orthotic shoes and special insoles provided no relief. After a shoe salesman convinced me to try the Altra Escalante 3, I can now take long walks with no pain at all. I'm in love with these shoes and bought two more pair.

This shoe adjusts to you. At first I was worried because it did few tight, but as the day went on it adjusted to me and I love the snug upper with a nice toe box.

I'm so disappointed that Altra changed the Escalante. I loved all previous versions, and have worn them for years! They have gotten me through all kinds of foot injuries. The 3.0 is a totally different shoe. They are bulkier, heavier, stiffer, too much cushioning, as previous reviewers have said. I tried them, but they don't work for me. I also tried the Solstice, which are cute looking, but not as much cushioning as the Escalante 2.5, so my feet were hurting after one wear. I'll be sending them back. I've scoured the Internet looking for any Escalante 2.5s, but no luck. I'll have to start from scratch with another brand, and hope that Altra will bring back the beloved Escalante 2.5.

I kept these for weight lighting shoes and for runs if I ever need them. With no heel-toe drop and the wide footbed, these felt really stable for weight lifting and light cardio for classes. Removable insoles allow me to add in a bit more arch support (I have high arches). Overall, a nice sturdy shoe for what I needed.
