The shoe is very light and just feels fast. The foam is prefect for protecting my legs and feet from the pounding on the concrete.

These are my favorite running shoes, period. Bouncy, responsive, but with plenty of cushioning for long hard runs. I'm on my 3rd pair, so I obviously will keep buying them. The problem I have is that the shoes just breakdown. Getting them on prodeal makes this way less of an issue, but the pictures I include here are after 206 miles. A fatal flaw in a training shoe like this. Are they great to run in? Undoubtedly. Do the materials need to be improved? Absolutely.

I bought these as they were on sale and I liked the idea that they had a bit more "shape" to them than the torins. They are comfortable and do run well. However, I found they wore VERY quickly. I ran for only 15-20 miles on the treadmill only and noticed significant colored dust behind the treadmill belt, and also very visible signs of wear on the soles, much quicker than any other pair of running shoes I've ever worn. When I contacted altra was told that this model is more for race day and even mentioned the word "single use" which seemed alarming to me, as I hadn't read anything like that in the description. I still like the shoes, but would estimate they soles will be completely toast by 75-100 miles, and its a lot of money ot pay for shoes that wear that quickly, especially since I'm not all that fast of a runner and not too worried about my raceday speeds being marginally different.

I bought the Vanish Tempo days before running the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon after training injury free almost exclusively in the Rivera 1 and 2. I ran a 4-mile taper and then the Marathon in the Vanish Tempo for a total of 30 miles in 2 days. They let me down in some ways. I felt the need to have more pro cushion and a rocker to keep my legs turning. I wear a size 11 but sized up to 11.5 just like I do with the Rivera. The length fit good by sizing 1/2 size up. Upon first try-on the tongue and top eyelets felt stiff around the front of my ankle, and the shoe was cut too high with me being used to the Rivera lineup. Also, I struggled to get a good lock-down with bunching happening on each of the bottom shoelace eyelets. The upper felt much sloppier than the Rivera 1 and 2 like another reviewer said. My pinky toes felt like they were breaking out of the sides compared to the Rivera that has the same slim fit. In the marathon the left shoe loosened up almost immediately and I ran with it feeling sloppy for 13 miles and then pulled over to tighten them down again. The Ego Pro cushioning felt good until mile 13 and then it didn't feel any different than the Rivera. In retrospect I would have run in the Rivera 2 which I just love for comfort and running economy. I rolled over the side once during the marathon due to not being used to the higher stack height. The Vanish Tempo was not the shoe for me, and I returned them in favor of the Rivera lineup. With some fine tuning or even just using a Rivera upper on the Ego Pro platform, you would have a winner for me.

comfy shoe, the sole appears to not hold up well, I have and older pair of Altras that have held up better, purchased April 2023 and the sole is wearing poorly in my opinion. Used only for walking.

Make a standard fit and it'd be 5 stars. The Pro midsole has some hop to it.

I love everything about this shoe except the outsole. They are very comfortable otherwise. Mine only lasted 100 miles! The weight that is saved by this poor sole design is not worth having to buy new pairs over and over. I am on my third pair already. I am training for the Paris Marathon and only have three months, so I don't want to change shoes. I'm also a heavier runner so I need the max cushioning. However, if the outsole on these is not updated soon, I will probably have to find something besides Altras. I would recommend these if you don't mind buying a new pair every month.

Super comfortable for long training runs, but Insoles slip a lot when wet. Rubber is very soft; only 150 miles on mine and I am through the heels

They look great, felt great aside from my toe bulging out. I would likely love these if they fit

I hate the rocker. And it's too soft, too much cushion.

The first pair I got last year was fantastic, fit great and was perfect for my wide toes. Trained and ran a half marathon in them! This pair felt narrow, small and cheap. I switched to brooks.

I'm a all distance and surface runner in exclusively hot and humid climates. I've been running in your shoes since 2013 and absolutely love and need them for my fitness. I'm invested with 12+ now over the years and unfortunately have had three pairs falter due to glue bonding the outsole to midsole. I don't abuse nor machine wash, just use them.

I am a long time Altra supporter. I've worn the Torin 4.0, 4.5,5.0 and 6.0. I decided to try the Vanish Tempo because of the light weight and greater stack height. After about 50 miles, the outside of both my ankles and my instep were in such pain that stopped running in them. I went back to running in my Torin 6.0 that had 500 miles. The tongue design of the Vanish Tempo needs a redesign (like the Torin 6.0) and the ankle area needs to be scooped lower and better padded. I wish I never bought the Vanish Tempo.

I think Altra is sending the wrong message by only offering carbon in a slim width, as if to say the entire "foot shape" movement has never been compatible with speed. At least offer carbon in "standard" shape.

After one month and 120 miles on these shoes, the heel rubber soles have already worn out. I've never had a shoe wear out so quickly. Sadly, customer service said this was normal wear and tear. For reference, I'm 155 lbs and have been running for over 30 years. Otherwise, these shoes are hands down the best I've ever worn. My average pace per mile improved significantly at same effort. Also, the cushioning is amazing for the weight. I would love to purchase again, but the price and durability may keep me away. I really hope they improve durability for future versions.

These are insanely narrow in the toes. What happened to Altra shoes? They've completely abandoned their customer base.

I ordered these without knowing they were the new narrow cut! I tried to make it work, but now I'm layer up because the narrow cut destroyed my left foot. I did have the opportunity to return them and should have. It really felt like it's be an awesome show if it were the original shape that Altra built its rep on. Ultimately, I gave them away after 50 miles and annoyed I dropped 170 on them. It's pretty simple to clearly say Narrow in the sizing drop-down. Sadly, I kind of think it's intentionally misleading. Buy them if you have a narrow foot.

So I've been hooked onto Altra ever since I tried the Escalante 1.0. I've bought almost all their shoe designs and have never had a problem except now. Unfortunately, in a month of use (around 70 miles tracked on a Garmin) I am noticing excessive wear and tear. I've never had this issue with any of my other altra shoes before; shoes I've used for over 400 miles. I've included pics of the Vanish and my Riveria 2 (that I've used for 100 miles) for reference. I reached out to support but they feel this is not grounds for an exchange / return. I'm very disappointed with the way this has been handled.
