Super responsive, lacing is very comfortable, go-to shoe for 5k, 10k, and beyond. Previously was running in altra torin and I enjoy these much more! :)

I have often wondered why Altra did not have a neutral road shoe that combined additional cushioning with less overall weight, sort of like the Hoka Clifton. I think the Vanish Tempo is a solid step in that direction. There's more cushioning than the Torin, my regular shoe (without the overblown bulkiness of some other lightweight cushioned trainers). There's a definite feeling of "springiness." As a result, I've run faster in them. There could be a tad more cushioning under the balls of the feet, but that's a minor quibble. I'd like to see additional colors other than white with a colored accent. My regular running route has three miles of packed-dirt trail - they looked a bit grungy after my first run.

Kind of a strange shoe at first. The rocker felt like it did not want to let you run slow in it. After the foam softens up a little bit this feeling goes away and it becomes a shoe that you can literally use at any pace. It feels extremely nice and secure. Lacing it might be a bit tricky but once you get it this shoe fits great, is soft yet stable, and can be used at any pace. I hope this shoe gets more attention!

I wasn't going to wear them first time for my long run but my previous long run shoes were just not feeling right and I developed a blister/callous that was uncomfortable running and after trying a couple shoes in my rotation these felt the best and like a dream with my blister. My 45 minute warm up and cool downs we're about 10sec faster per mile with less effort and they felt great! I ran over to a very steep grassy ski mountain and ran up it 10 times. These shoes felt very stable on uneven grass and I'd even wear them for a non technical trail. My cool down miles as well felt very fast and my feet were extremely comfortable and happy for 16 miles 1,900 ft of vert which included 4 miles of very steep ups and downs on grass. These are my new favorite shoes. I am between sizes of 9 and 9.5. I bought the 9.5 and they fit perfectly. I wear size 9 in the Lone Peaks and the Escalante Racers and a 9.5 in the Rivera's

It's completely different from traditional Altra products, but it's really perfect.
Cushion, responsiveness, comfort
This lives up to my expectations to the point where there is nothing missing.

This is such a fun shoe. I would say this is the perfect shoe for a Highschool runner. That's because this shoe can do everything! Long runs, tempos, easy days and light trails! Similar feel to the Carbon but a tad less responsive and added comfort. I would recommend this shoe to anyone!!

First off, all my running shoes and most of my hikers are Altras. I have quite a breadth. Thanks Altra!
These in particular, are awesome. I LOVE the midsole. If I could, I'd ask for this midsole in every other shoe. However, As they are, these are definitely race day shoes. Light, fast, responsive. But Altra definitely sacrificed some sole thickness to make them lighter.
If I could customize this shoe, or design my own perfect shoe, I'd start with the midsole of this one, I'd actually take this whole shoe, then make the toe box a tad wider. The toe box on these is definitely on the narrow side of Altra. The next thing I'd do is make the rubber a couple mils thicker. I've got 50 miles on mine, and I'm already wearing through the edge of the rubber on the forefoot and into the foam. If Altra is afraid of making this shoe a trainer, I'd suggest one of two options: either make a Torin with this midsole, or add more rubber, which will add weight but make the shoe last longer, and call it something like "Vanish Trainer". I just can't afford to buy a new pair of these every 100 miles!

I've been wearing barefoot shoes for a couple years and have decided to run my first marathon. The Vanish Tempos have given me necessary cushion while enforcing good form.

I only have about 60 miles on them.
3.5 stars.
Compared to the Torin, the Escalante, and the Escalante Racer, I find the Tempo to be just a normal running shoe like any other brand. Due to the Slim Fit, they do not have that "Altra vibe" that Altra fans have grown to love. I had toe bleed on both feet after a 18 miles run --- something that NEVER happened in any other Altra I've owned (and I ran a Marahon in the Torin 7s).
The style and intention is great; I only wish they came out with a Regular Fit (wide toe box) version of this shoe.

My first experience with a rocker shoe. Noticed improved forward momentum. I wear them for runs when I want to feel fast! Altra has really narrowed their shoes. I hope this practice is discontinued.

Great show but once you hit 10+ miles and start to sweat, be warned the soles turn into boats and slide all between your foot and your shoe. This happened on my first long run. Now, to be clear, this is Florida in the summer. So sweating out here is intense. Like, shoes are SOAKED after a 10-20mi long run. These shoes help my feet heal, run faster, and I really like them. But for sweaty long runs, I have two pairs, and I swap them at the halfway point or take out the insoles halfway. Make the soles stick!

I almost gave up on this shoe after the first several runs. They were creating hotspots on the ball of my foot due to the way the sole was shaped at first. I tried different things to eliminate this problem but to no avail. It took close to 40 miles before I realized that the sole was breaking in and no longer causing the hotspots. Would I recommend this? Yes, but definitely with the instructions to be patient during the break in process. Now that they are broken in, I really appreciate the wide toe box, light weight, and very good ventilation.

The vanish series intrigued me from its introduction, but I felt that my running ability was not worthy of a "speedwork" shoe like the Vanish Tempo. I finally purchased a pair when the prices went down and only wish I did so earlier. I have a little over 100 mi on the shoe in 25 runs. My original intention was to use it as a change of pace shoe to my Torins. It has since become my go-to shoe. Super comfy and responsive, the shoe encourages pace and rewards posture. As an added bonus for me, the layout perfectly supports my morton's neuroma. As it's not the nicest looking shoe, i went with yellow to overcompensate. Sole is wearing out a bit faster than trainers, so I already bought another pair to replace when the time comes.

I recently transitioned to the Altra line after wearing Hoka and Brooks previously. Absolutely love the Vanish Tempo and just bought my second pair. I've used these as daily trainers and race day shoes without complain, until I started building up miles on them. At only 200 miles the outsoles are disappearing and the foam bottom showing through. Everything up to this point has been fantastic, so I bought another pair and stretching this first pair until my feet fall through the bottom.
Just wish they lasted longer.

I am on my 15th or so pair of Altra. My first pair at this new fit. I'm very pleased so far on a modest 10k first run. Marathon on 10th. I wish I pleased up just to get that toe a bit more space.

I hadn't run in Altras before, but I was recommended them with my flat + narrow feet. I'm training for a marathon and I've loved how bouncy and energetic they feel. Only complaint is the durability of the outsole (especially for the price point). It began to wear away very quickly. Now, it's all gone on the toes. I just bought another pair to run in in the marathon but I'd love to see some improvements made

I have the Rivera and the torin and overall I do feel the vanish shoes are similar to the Rivera's. I like the nice bounce of the vanish shoes! I also like how airy and light they feel!
Downside is the tongue cutting and rubbing into my left ankle I have never had this problem in any shoe I've ran with before. My first run with the vanish was a 10 miler and mile 5 was when I noticed a sharp stinging pain above my left ankle. The tongue of the shoe started irritating my skin to the point that it was bleeding mid run! I just brushed it off and dealt with it. I may have to start using ankle high socks just to protect my ankles.
Overall though, I do like the shoes because of how bouncy and supportive they feel, but I'm still on the fence with recommending these to a friend.

I'm a huge fan of Altra's. I've gone through a number of Escalante Racer's, and other shoes. This year I decided to tackle the marathon so I wanted a higher cushion daily trainer. The Vanish Tempo's seemed to be great. I could use them for training, then consider getting the carbons for race day. My only complaints are the width and the durability.
One reason I love Altra is their foot shape, I have wider feet so it is always a challenge to find comfortable shoes. I really wish they made these in the standard shape. I find the slim shape to be workable, but not as comfortable as I would like.
The shoes also aren't as durable as I hoped. The soles seem to wear quickly relative to other Altra's, and the glue between the upper and lower failed in the same spot on both shoes after 200-215 miles.
Perhaps I'm not using the shoes for what they were designed for. However, it seems like a natural progression to use these for training/racing longer distances and then get the carbon to spice things up a bit. Overall the Vanish Tempo's feel okay, but not great.

Love it! Love the Vanish-C, and was just as impressed with the shoe the moment I took it out. A little pricy, but def a good, lightweight, responsive shoe!

I absolutely love the feel of the Vanish Carbon, I thought this shoe would be a great daily trainer but it really isn't quite durable enough to be a daily trainer for me. The sole while more durable than the VC, still wore through in a couple spots with less than 100 miles on it. While it's just cosmetic, I think the colors offered for the Vanish Tempo feel a bit uninspired and bland as well. I think this is a good less expensive shoe than the VC and feels better than the Via Olympus but still can't run in it as a daily trainer shoe.

Let me start by saying the shoe is fast, smooth, energy return, all that. The upper feels more robust than the carbon. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is I feel as if the outsole has died well before the rest of the shoe, upper and foam feel pretty good, but outsole has worn down to the foam after maybe 200 miles. I'm a fairly avid runner and have gotten 4-500 miles out of most of my altras. With a race shoe like the carbon I am okay with shaving every gram possible, but with the "training" equivalent (as I believe the tempo is meant to be) I would like to see the foam go before the outsole. So dang close, terrific shoe otherwise.

The midsole and outsole feel amazing. The ride is soft and protective without being mushy and the inherent stability is great at any speed. They call it a tempo shoe but it works great for easy runs too. I would leave the bottom unit exactly as it is and improve the upper. The sides of the tongue will fold up under itself every time you put on the shoe and you will struggle to get it flat. The laces are awful, too stiff, thick, and way too short. If you plan on using the top eyelet, you will need longer laces. About the fit - Altra says this is their slim fit but if you compare it to other Altra models, it actually fits quite spacious, almost to the point of being baggy. Luckily the mid foot cage system works pretty well when you lace up tight. But if you compare it to the Torin 6 or the Rivera 2, both of those shoes fit MUCH tighter than the Tempo which is pretty strange considering this is an uptempo shoe. I could barely squeeze my foot into those shoes whereas the Tempo feels pretty loose until you tighten the laces. Lastly, the price is WAY TOO HIGH but it really is an excellent running shoe.

For the most of my runs I use the escalante. Bought this shoe because I wanted a more durable version of the vanish carbon. Overall this shoe has been great for my tempo days and long runs. I only have 2 issues, the rocker is a little more aggressive than I like and the price.
