My son has the previous iteration of this shoe, several in fact, but now that they have stopped making them I got him this version. He liked his so I decided to try it for myself. I have many orthopedic issues so finding a waterproof lightweight trail shoe for walking and hiking has been troublesome. I loved everything about this shoe - I wear a 10/10.5 and got the 10.5 but wear with thin socks (I wear compression stocking so don't usually add socks); I have a narrower foot, high arch and narrow heel and this fits well. it is not too heavy nor too stuff so my foot can be stable but flexible. It is definitely wonderfully waterproof. And it is very lightweight without feeling unstable. But I found 2 major issues: 1. Driving - the traction makes it hard to move your foot around on the pedals without your foot getting caught and 2. Slip factor - I thought this would be as good as my Brooks weatherized one (amazing traction and fit but definitely not impervious to dew or a slight drizzle!) but in fact the Salomon was slipping on wet shale and rocks. Not what this orthopedically challenged woman (I also use a cane) needs. So while I will keep wearing it for soak days on pavement, I will keep using my Brooks as the traction is far superior and doesn't make driving tricky.
I'd also recommend:
Brooks, Allbirds before they changed ownership and operations.

I got these shoes for being waterproof and I've been buying my sneakers from Salomon for a long time now. But these are not only half a size bigger, but much wider than I could imagine. Plus, the sizing of these shoes is different than other Salomon styles. I just got a pair from their website, both size 5.5, but the GTX runs bigger and the toe box has a lot of room making my feet shift to the left and right while walking. The main reason I like this brand is because they used to make narrow shoes. I don't know what happened.
I'd also recommend:

The good: Great fit, comfortable, amazing grip, The bad: Resisted water for first 2 months... after that wet feet!, Super expensive considering the wet feet. Wear to walk the dog around suberbia in the morning.

the shoe fit much smaller than expected. I ordered a nine (9) so that it would fit a bit large (I usually wear an 8 ½) I could barely get one on! oh well, guess I'll order another shoe.

I've been a huge fan of Solomon, and the Speedcross shoe for quite some time. I've had about 10 pairs over the years. I have absolutely loved them until now. This is the first time I've stepped up to the gore tex model. I'm not sure if it is the gore tex or across-the-board changes made in the Speedcross line when moving from the model 5 to the 6, but this is my first disappointment with Solomon. The shoe is much "clunkier" than previous versions, and seems to feel almost more like a lite hiker than the slipper like feel of my previous Speedcross shoes. I'm still a fan of Solomon and will try again, but this one is a disappointment for me.

Not for me. They run narrow and also rubbed on my big toe during a 6 mile hike leaving me with bruised toenail beds. Painful.

These shoes felt super comfortable, and I really wanted to hike in them, but the toe box was way too narrow, so I sent them back.

Size 7.5 is always slightly too large for me but this 7.5 is too small (toes crunched). I liked the lightweight-ness of these shoes but not how inflexible they are - more stiff than sturdy - and the bungee lace-ups feel cheap.

Unfortunately, the shoes became completely dusty after first use in the forest, and the grey/brown dust is impossible to wash off. For the price, I would expect better.

These shoes are definitely not wide, they're narrower than a typical shoe. Didn't bother to try them on, returning immediately.

I have the Salomon X Ultra 4 and they are the absolute best. I can no longer find them in my size so I tried these, in a wide, the shoe is so narrow and tight I couldn't even get my foot into it. Extremely disappointed, had to return.

It’s plastic. Just as plastic as your shampoo bottle. As plastic as the trash bin you take to the curbside. As plastic as a gasoline can.
