Beautiful shoes. Too narrow in the toe box for me.

I purchased these to replace an old, battered pair of Speedgoat 2 Mid Trail Runners that were the best hiking/trekking/trail running shoes I have ever owned. Sadly, they are on their last leg with over 500 miles on them :(. I'm mostly happy with the Speedgoat 5 Mid Trail Runners that I bought to replace them but there are a couple of things that almost made me return them. The toe box on the Speedgoat 5s feels a bit more narrow than the Speedgoat 2s. Weirdly though, the rest of the shoe on the Speedgoat 5s feels a bit sloppy and I end up having to tighten my laces more than normal. The biggest difference is that I never had my toes slam into the front of my shoes when wearing the Speedgoat 2s, not even when heading down VERY steep slopes. The first time I wore the new Speedgoat 5s on a steep descent though, I was in a lot of pain because my feet slid forward so far that it felt like I was descending on my toes with no support from the shoes. The saving grace is that I discovered a way to lace them utilizing a runners lace and a heel lock to keep my feet mostly in place. That is the reason I am keeping these. If it weren't for that lacing method I would definitely have to return these shoes. But now that I have alleviated the majority of that problem, I am very satisfied with them overall.

I would have given 5 stars but this pair is rubbing my right foot on the outside. By lunch time I can barely walk. I'm hoping they will break in soon. Trouble is I have never had to break in Hokas before.

These shoes were absolutely lovely, but I have a wide foot and the toe box was too narrow. I then tried a men's size, but same situation. Too narrow. So I am sticking with the men's Bondi 8 wide. Perfect fit and my feet are very happy.

I bought these to potentially use on the Inca Trail but cant's quite pull the trigger yet. They are comfortable around the house (I am an avowed Speedgoat fan) but in any case the purple colorway is so lurid (and I like color) I will be exchanging them for the sage. Maybe those will convince me

I regularly order the wide width options for my Hokas, but thought per reviews the toebox on these mid high hikers would be comfortable in width. Loved everything about them, color, soft tongue cushion, mid height was perfect. About 3 miles into a 6.5 mile hike however, the width became a problem - definitely not wide enough. Ugg, hated to return them. Please Hoka remember your loyal customers who love your shoes but need the wide width option!!!

Please please please start producing your boots in WIDE width. You will get many more customers because arthritic feet need more width! Other than that they are nice boots. I am in the process of stretching them before I can walk in them. I love the cushiony feeling of Hoka's. It's all I can wear at this point. Hoka Bondi awide are my go-to shoes.

Probably the most expensive footwear I have ever purchased in my 45 years & they're wonderful. Comfortable, cute, rugged....all the stuff! I replaced the laces (as I do in all my Hoka) with stretchy no-tie ones, but I knew I would prior to purchase. One thing I wish they did have though would end a heel pull to assist in putting them on. I am no avid hiker, but I walk the dog several miles a day in park settings that aren't always even terrain & I love the stability. My primary pull was that they were waterproof & Hoka comfort combined!

I had tried on the Speedgoat 5 and liked it except it didn't grip my heel enough, so I thought the mid would be perfect with some ankle support, and in Goretex too. But: The flat laces should be replaced with round- it is hard to unlace enough to get your foot in, or a custom orthotic. I still find the heel a bit loose- and unfortunately the outer ankles rub. Very sad to have to return.

I love the look and the rocker sole on these hiking boots. They're super comfortable also, including on the ankles. I took off the the one star only because I had to work hard to enlarge the top hole enough for the laces to go through, and they are a bit challenging to put on. But mostly, they're great

I really like the multi-colors and style of this hiking shoe. I was concerned that the toe box would be too narrow, as I am accustomed to Hoka Stinson. However, this was not a problem. I like the ankle support. I wore them hiking for the first time this week, and they were very comfortable on the trails. However, I noticed immediately that the right shoe was rubbing my outside ankle bone, which made it very sore by the time the hike was finished. I tried adjusting the shoelaces, but this did not help. I wore them on two more hikes with the same problem. I like the shoe but will be sending back this pair for an exchange.

Fit and comfort are top notch.
Color options MUST expand. Please include more neutral options or extend sizing for men's shoes (which are the only sizes that offer neutral colors).

I am 67 year old out of shape cancer survivor . I was having so much pain in my legs and back wearing my favorite work boots and/or shoes around farm while trying to get back to my pre-cancer routines.. After trying another style Hoka for exercising indoors ,I saw these on line and decided to give them a try. They have done nothing short of changing my life ... or should I say giving it back . I can walk over wet pastures, down gravel roads and even through puddles . I can stay on my feet all day and my feet are happy . My legs are happy and I have no back pain . I can even clean them up good as new to take me out of my rural paridise and into suburba. What a great shoe....please do not change them -ever.

I go on 3-5 mile walks and hikes 5 days a week with an active puppy that loves mud and water. My speedgoats are comfortable, stabilizing, sturdy, and best of all, water and mud proof. I rinse them clean every day in a running stream. I get compliments on them when I wear them in the store with jeans, an unexpected extra. I've been recommending them to my outdoor active friends and family! I was looking for a high quality hiking, walking shoe and these more than satisfied those requirements. HOKA FTW!

I still have to try them out on a hike but overall fits well! Didn't like their customer service and long wait for shipping. My husband ordered another pair he wanted to later exchange For a different color, after 20 days waiting they messed up the exchange and said will be refunding him back a lot of time lost in waiting..

The sizing may have changed slightly since my last pair of Speedgoats as I went up one-half size. The new size is slightly bigger and the old size was too small

I used these in RMNP after a spring snow storm and they kept my feet dry. We hiked up some trails and they did not have any sore spots. I wear size 8 and they fit just right. I was leary of ordering a half size up, as I had a pair of Anacapa hikers in 8 1/2 that left terrible blisters in my toes but I did more downhill descents at Yosemite and much longer hikes in the heat. first time that I had a problem with Hokas not working well, so I went back to size 8. I hope to use in warmer weather, but may switch to my speedgoat lowtops.

Only been out a couple times. Super comfy right away, no break-in period needed. Haven't been able to test the waterproofing yet. Love the bright colors too. I did order a size larger than normal.

These shoes just arrived and all I can say is, wow! They are so comfortable! I've always hiked in a boot and decided to switch to a trail runner this year. My planter fasciitis has been acting up and wanted something with more cushioning for hiking. The high top seems fairly flexible enough to run in and I like that it will keep more debris out. My usual size is a woman's 10, but I find Hoka's fit a bit big, so ordered a 9.5 and they are perfect. Can't wait to hit the trails in these!

I trail run in the Torrent series but have been having ankle trouble, so I hoped the Speedgoat 5 Mid GTX would provide enough support and keep me outdoors longer in a rainy fall. Unfortunately the back end of these shoes make them too heavy to run in; the stack height and the collar add just enough weight that the shoes feel clunky instead of agile. The point where the raised collar meets what would be the heel notch on the low style has a bit of a ridge that pokes directly into my achilles tendon.
That said, the shoes have good support and are comfortable for hiking short distances. The toe box is plenty wide enough for my toes to flex without feeling pinched. I'm sad they didn't work out in the end!

I was impressed with the construction of the hiking boot, but felt my toes were a bit cramped. The width needed to be a little greater. I am sending these back, as I only wore them around the house to test the fit.
